Duanesburg CSD proposes $6.9M improvement project

DELANSON, N.Y. (NEWS10)– On December 16, Duanesburg Central School District voters will vote on a proposed tax-neutral $6.9 million improvement project. The newly proposed project is described as Phase III, an extension of the ongoing Centennial Project.

A key component of the new project is the renovation of a student support center in the Jr.-Sr. High School. The space would bring together counselors, social workers, psychologists, therapists and the special education department into one dedicated suite.

“I have to admit, this part of the capital project brings me the greatest sense of pride,” Superintendent Kimberly Ross said. “Our student support specialists are essential partners in helping students and their families navigate challenges and thrive. With this new space, they will finally have a cohesive, modern environment that reflects the depth and importance of their work in supporting the whole child and the broader school community.”

The project will also include renovations in the high school gym, such as modernizing the ventilation infrastructure, painting, adding decals and installing new basketball hoops. It will also support upgrades at the elementary school bus loop and finalize the roof project at the elementary school and floor restorations at the high school.

According to the district, community members will be invited into the school for a guided tour, highlighting the current and future improvement projects.

“The timing really couldn’t be better, especially as we near completion of the Centennial Capital Project,” said Superintendent Ross. “This presents the perfect opportunity to revisit some of the important ‘wish list’ items that had to be cut from the first and second phases of the Centennial project due to budget constraints. Now, with the timing of the bond retirement, we’re in a position to responsibly address those needs. Moving forward with Phase III of the Centennial Project is a smart and responsible financial decision for the community.”

The guided tour will begin at 5 p.m. with a public hearing to follow at 6 p.m. Voting will take place December 16 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the high school library media center. For more information on the capital project, visit the district’s website.
