Pitching Matchup: Morton vs Junk

Veteran right-hander Charlie Morton (9-10, 5.59 ERA, 142 K) gets the ball for Detroit. He’s had success against Miami in the past (14-7 career record) but has been inconsistent this season and will need to set the tone early.

Miami counters with Janson Junk (6-3, 4.48 ERA, 64 K), making his first career start against the Tigers. Detroit will try to jump on the young righty before he settles in.

-Spread: Detroit Tigers -1.5 (+125)/ Miami Marlins +1.5 (-155)
Money Line: Detroit Tigers -130/ Miami Marlins +110
-Over/Under: 8.5

Injury Concerns for Detroit

Friday’s 8-2 loss came with two major scares. Tarik Skubal left in the fourth inning with left-side tightness, and Javier Báez exited after fouling a ball off his face. Báez is listed as day-to-day, his absence leaves a void in both the rotation and the lineup, adding urgency for Morton and the offense to respond.

Players to Watch

Riley Greene anchors the Tigers’ lineup, while Spencer Torkelson and Gleyber Torres will be counted on to get Detroit’s offense rolling again.
For Miami, rookie Agustin Ramirez is chasing history after hitting his 20th homer of the season Friday, just one shy of the Marlins’ single-season record for a catcher.

Riley Greene

  • AVG: .269
  • HR: 34
  • RBI: 108
  • Hits: 148

Spencer Torkleson

  • AVG: .234
  • HR: 28
  • RBI: 72
  • Hits: 120

Gleyber Torres

  • AVG: .258
  • HR: 15
  • RBI: 71
  • Hits: 124

What’s at Stake

Detroit is fighting to maintain its narrow lead in the AL Central and stay in the hunt for the top seed in the American League. A win would not only even the series but also send a message that the Tigers can respond under pressure with October closing in.
