    The designs blend modern creativity with franchise history, drawing inspiration from the iconic 1984 Tigers while leaning harder than ever into the color orange — something fans have been asking for years.

    A Look at the New Alternates

    The Tigers will rotate the new uniforms into their schedule throughout the season:

    • Orange jerseys will be worn during select home games
    • Navy jerseys will be featured in select road games
    • Both looks will also appear during spring training, starting immediately

    Detroit will continue wearing its popular City Connect uniforms at times, but the new alternates give the club another distinct look that still feels unmistakably Tigers.

    According to the organization, these uniforms weren’t rushed.

    The Tigers spent 18 months researching and developing the alternates, gathering feedback from:

    • Fan focus groups
    • Players inside the clubhouse
    • Front office leadership

    That process produced hundreds of design concepts before narrowing things down to what fans see today.

    Ryan Gustafson, President and CEO of Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, emphasized that collaboration was the driving force behind the final product.

    “We’re proud to introduce these new uniforms, which have been years in the making,” Gustafson said. “We believe it’s important to ask fans what matters to them.”

    Gustafson noted that fans consistently asked for:

    • More creativity in merchandise
    • Additional alternate jerseys
    • Greater use of orange
    • Subtle throwbacks to the 1984 championship era

    A Balance of Tradition and Modern Style

    While the colors are bold, the Tigers stayed grounded in tradition.

    Both alternate uniforms prominently feature:

    • The Olde English ‘D’
    • The classic script Detroit lettering

    The result is a look that feels new without straying from the franchise’s visual identity.

    “What you see today is a result of nearly everyone being drawn to the alignment between our existing uniforms and new alternates,” Gustafson said.

    When and Where Fans Can Buy Them

    Fans won’t have to wait long to get their hands on the new gear:

    • In-store: Available Friday at the D Shop in Detroit and Lakeland
    • Online: Available starting Sunday

  • Franchise-altering trade idea sends Tarik Skubal to Yankees in massive deal

    The New York Yankees have come up short in each of the last few years, and it seems like the fans are getting restless. Whether it’s calling for Aaron Boone or Brian Cashman to be fired, the fanbase clearly seems to want some kind of change.

    But the Bronx Bombers might be able to make this change without firing anybody. In fact, they could save everybody’s job with one franchise-altering trade.

    Adam Weirib of Yanks Go Yard recently suggested the Yankees could look to swing a trade for Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal. Skubal is entering the final year of his contract, and it seems like he’s unlikely to sign an extension with the Tigers before he hits free agency.

    “Now, just because Detroit is stacked with offensive firepower doesn’t mean they won’t ask for George Lombard Jr. It does mean that the Yankees might be able to get away with negotiating around him,” Weinrib wrote. “By the time these theoretical talks settle, Spencer Jones, along with top-tier pitching prospects Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz and Carlos Lagrange, will be required to be a part of the package. The only real question is whether the Yankees can escape without including Cam Schlittler in exchange for only one guaranteed year of Skubal.

    “We’ll be optimistic and say they’ll be able to add Vanderbilt’s Bryce Cunningham in a four-for-one and get it done. The pessimistic version, though? Add Schlittler, make it even more top heavy, hold your nose and … fine. Do it. It’s literally Tarik Skubal, and Boston is lurking.”

    It’s important to note that Skubal trade rumors hold no weight right now. He’s very unlikely to be moved unless something goes drastically wrong for the Tigers.

    But if the Yankees are to package a huge haul of their top prospects together, they could be a realistic suitor if the Tigers end up moving him.

    The Yankees also have the money to re-sign him on a massive deal. This is the kind of trade that would help save Aaron Judge’s career with some postseason success.

  • Seattle Mariners reach ALCS for first time in 24 years after 15-inning classic

    (CNN) — Four hours and 58 minutes after it had begun, the longest winner-takes-all playoff game in MLB history was decided in suitably dramatic fashion on Friday night.

    With the bases loaded, one out and a full count, Jorge Polanco – who was 0-for-5 up until that point – sent the 472nd pitch of the night into right field, and sent the Seattle Mariners to their first American League Championship Series (ALCS) in 24 years with a 3-2 win over the Detroit Tigers.

    “A lot of emotions since the start of the game,” Polanco reflected afterward. “I know we played a long game, but this team never gives up. I know there is a lot of emotion but we always try and keep it simple and just try and go out there and play.”

    Polanco’s single may be the moment that fans will still be talking about in 20 years, but Seattle’s victory in Game 5 of the American League Division Series (ALDS) was defined by an extraordinary night from its pitching staff.

    Starters Logan Gilbert and Luis Castillo both pitched in relief for the first time in their major league careers, while relievers Matt Brash and Eduard Bazardo made their longest ever appearances.

    There were also contributions from Gabe Speier and Andrés Muñoz, after George Kirby had given up one run in five innings to kick things off.

    “I don’t even know where to begin to try to recap all the heroic efforts that went into today. Just from one guy to the next,” Mariners manager Dan Wilson told reporters afterward. “Just an incredible ballgame from top to bottom.”

    For the Tigers, another wonderful showing from Tarik Skubal would come to mean nothing. The two-time All-Star gave up one run off two hits and no walks in six innings, striking out 13 – a record number of punchouts for a postseason winner-takes-all game.

    His dominance had Detroit 2-1 up after the sixth, in which Kerry Carpenter had hit a two-run homer off Speier.

    But Skubal’s subsequent exit would see the Mariners tie the game immediately thanks to one of the evening’s many unlikely heroes.

    Leo Rivas, a journeyman minor leaguer who only made his MLB debut last year, stepped up for the first postseason at-bat of his career on his 28th birthday. His single to left field brought home Polanco, and the game was tied again.

    “It’s hard,” Rivas said afterward of a career which had seen him wait the best part of a decade for his opportunity. “(Watching) everybody go all the way like that. Most people just give up.

    “It’s not easy. I was thinking to give up back then also.”

    Rivas’ RBI single took the game to extra innings, where missed opportunities for Seattle in the 10th, 12th and 13th had the crowd at T-Mobile Park fearing a potential repeat of 2022, when the Mariners were eliminated at this stage by the Houston Astros after 18 innings.

    J.P. Crawford went 1-for-7 that night, and so it was only fitting that it should be him who touched home off Polanco’s single on Friday to clinch the walk-off victory and begin the wild celebrations.

    The Mariners begin their bid to reach a first ever World Series on Sunday, facing off against the Toronto Blue Jays in Canada.

    Weather Causes Delay

    Tuesday’s game was originally scheduled to start at 4:08 p.m. ET, but inclement weather in Detroit caused a significant delay. According to Chris McCosky of The Detroit News, the FS1 broadcast crew said they are now “hoping for a 7:30 p.m. start time,” though an exact first pitch has not been officially confirmed.

    Broadcast Change Announced

    Because of the delay, Ryan Ermanni of Fox 2 Detroit announced that the game will no longer air on FS1. Instead, fans can now catch the Tigers-Mariners matchup on FS2, MLB Network, and the FOX One App.

    For the second consecutive season at Progressive Field, the Tigers and Guardians played a winner-take-all game to close out a postseason series. What was once considered an impossibility has turned into reality, and now Cleveland has a chance to add to their one-game lead on Thursday night.

    Things are obviously looking dim for the Tigers. Eight straight losses have raised the real possibility that Detroit misses the postseason entirely. The Houston Astros sit only one game back of them in the Wild Card race, making every game vitally important. Unfortunately, manager AJ Hinch will not be able to call on one of his best starters to take the bump in this contest. Hinch is yet to announce a starter, so a bullpen game is not out of the question. If that is the case, it is hard to imagine the Tigers drawing even with the Guardians.

    The pitching situation in Cleveland raises some question marks, too. Parker Messick will make his seventh career start, where he will attempt to build on an excellent start to his career. Through his first six appearances, the 24-year-old Messick has amassed a 2.08 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP, along with three wins and zero losses. However, a young arm in such a huge spotlight could bring a level of volatility that might cost the Guardians.

    Remember this rule of thumb: AFC vs. AFC games don’t affect the Lions, so you can ignore those. But anytime an AFC team is playing an NFC opponent, it’s best to root for the AFC side since Detroit’s playoff race only runs through the NFC.
