How to request a correction
Send the URL of the article, identify the specific statement at issue, provide the corrected information, and include supporting documents or a reliable source whenever possible.
What happens after a request
The newsroom reviews the challenged statement and the available evidence. ReportWire may contact the requester, author, source, subject, or another knowledgeable party when additional verification is needed.
Material corrections
When an error materially affects the meaning, fairness, or factual accuracy of a story, ReportWire should update the article and add a correction or update note that explains the substance of the change in clear language.
Minor edits
Spelling, punctuation, grammar, formatting, broken-link, and other non-substantive fixes may be made without a formal correction note when they do not change the meaning of the article.
Updates and developing stories
Breaking stories may change as additional facts become available. Adding new verified information is an update, not necessarily a correction. When an update also corrects an earlier factual error, the correction should be disclosed.
Removal and unpublishing
ReportWire generally prefers correction or contextual updating over deleting an accurate published record. Removal may be considered when required by law, when publication creates a serious safety or privacy risk, when material was published in error, or in other exceptional circumstances.
