WASHINGTON — An estimated 191,390 Aroeve brand air purifiers have been recalled in the United States after dozens of customers reported overheating issues. One person reported the air purifier catching fire. 

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission said the air purifiers can “overheat and ignite, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers” in a recall issued Feb. 9. 

These recalled items were sold online at Amazon.com, Shopify.com, TEMU.com, and TikTok.com from September 2024 through June 2025 for between $80 and $134, according to the recall. 

Anyone with Aroeve brand air purifiers in model MK04, which came in black or white, are asked to stop using the item. 

There have been 37 reports of the air purifiers overheating, including one report of fire. No injuries have been reported. 

Customers can find their model, date code and serial number on the bottom of the air purifier. Any Aroeve brand air purifier manufactured on or before June 30, 2025 with a serial number beginning in “BN” are subject to the recall. 

Aroeve is offering free replacements for customers who meet the above criteria and submit a claim at this link.

TUCSON, Ariz. — A glove containing DNA found about two miles from the house of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother appears to match those worn by a masked person outside her front door in Tucson the night she vanished, the FBI said Sunday.

The glove, discovered in a field beside a road, was sent for DNA testing. The FBI said in a statement that it received preliminary results Saturday and was awaiting official confirmation. The development comes as law enforcement gathers more potential evidence as the search for Guthrie’s mother heads into its third week. Authorities had previously said they had not identified a suspect.

On Sunday night, Savannah Guthrie posted an Instagram video in which she issued an appeal to whoever abducted her mother or anyone who knows where she is being kept. “It is never too late to do the right thing,” Guthrie said. “And we are here. And we believe in the essential goodness of every human being, that it’s never too late.”

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at her Arizona home on Jan. 31 and was reported missing the following day. Authorities say her blood was found on the front porch. Purported ransom notes were sent to news outlets, but two deadlines for paying have passed.

The discovery was revealed days after investigators had released surveillance videos of the masked person outside Guthrie’s front door. A porch camera recorded video of a person with a backpack who was wearing a ski mask, long pants, jacket and gloves.

On Thursday, the FBI called the person a suspect. It described him as a man about 5 feet, 9 inches tall with a medium build. The agency said he was carrying a 25-liter “Ozark Trail Hiker Pack” backpack.

Late Friday night, law enforcement agents sealed off a road about two miles (3.2 kilometers) from Guthrie’s home as part of their investigation. A series of sheriff’s and FBI vehicles, including forensics vehicles, passed through the roadblock.

The investigators also tagged and towed a Range Rover SUV from a nearby restaurant parking lot late Friday. The sheriff’s department later said the activity was part of the Guthrie investigation but no arrests were made.

On Tuesday, sheriff deputies detained a person for questioning during a traffic stop south of Tucson. Authorities didn’t say what led them to stop the man but confirmed he was released. The same day, deputies and FBI agents conducted a court-authorized search in Rio Rico, about an hour’s drive south of the city.

Authorities have expressed concern about Nancy Guthrie’s health because she needs vital daily medicine. She is said to have a pacemaker and have dealt with high blood pressure and heart issues, according to sheriff’s dispatcher audio on broadcastify.com.

Earlier in the investigation, authorities had said they had collected DNA from Nancy Guthrie’s property which doesn’t belong to Guthrie or those in close contact with her. Investigators were working to identify who it belongs to.

The FBI also has said approximately 16 gloves were found in various spots near the house, most of which were searchers’ gloves that had been discarded.

MILAN, Metropolitan City of Milan — Team USA has one of the strongest U.S. Figure Skating teams in history competing in the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. After winning gold in the figure skating team event, did they do the same in the pairs event? 

Figure skaters Ellie Kam and Danny O’Shea, and Emily Chan and Spencer Akira Howe represented Team USA in the 2026 Olympics figure skating pair event on Sunday. The two duos took to the ice in the Milano Ice Skating Arena and finished seventh and ninth place, respectively. 

The best 16 skaters of 19 qualified to move on to Monday’s pairs free skate finals, according to the International Skating Union.

Both pairs contributed to Team USA’s gold medal in the figure skating team event earlier at the Games. 

Pairs skating has been part of the Olympic program since 1908, while ice dancing debuted in 1976. Both competitions look similar, but the rules and elements set them apart. Pairs skating highlights height and power, while ice dancing focuses on musicality, rhythm and precision.

 The injuries O’Shea has endured over three decades as he tried to realize his Olympic dream are easy to see.

They are scars and bruises and bumps and lumps.

The one that his pairs partner, Kam, suffered last year is not.

Shortly after O’Shea underwent surgery to repair a broken foot, Kam sustained a severe concussion last summer when she hit her head on the ice during a fall. She was sidelined for about a month, putting preparations for the most important season of their lives — and perhaps O’Shea’s last chance at the Winter Games — in a state of flux.

So when they stepped on the ice for the team event last weekend, and ultimately helped the Americans defend their gold medal, the beaming smiles that both Kam and O’Shea wore on their faces were rooted in a whole lot of pain.

“I don’t really have the words because it’s supposed to be just another competition,” Kam said, “but it’s so much more than that.”

O’Shea and Kim, who will compete in the individual event starting Sunday night, are perhaps an unlikely pairing.

O’Shea, who turned 35 on Friday, is at a point in his life at which most skaters have retired. He played football, soccer and basketball while growing up, which is not exactly common for figure skaters, and even ran track and practiced karate.

It was always figure skating that captured his imagination, though. O’Shea remembers watching the Olympics when he was not yet 10 years old, and the dream of skating under those lights and amid that pressure took root and never let go.

“I wrote out all the years the Olympics would be. ‘Oh, it happens every four years, and in 2010, I’ll be 18 or whatever. That’s the one I’m going to go to,’” O’Shea told The Associated Press. “That did not happen. But I am if nothing else pretty stubborn and determined — two sides of the same coin. I’m determined and, you know, I believed in myself.”

He kept believing even when it didn’t happen for the Sochi Games in 2014, or the Pyeongchang Games in 2018, which might have been the most difficult to swallow. O’Shea and his then-partner Tarah Kayne were the first alternates, and because the U.S. only qualified one spot, they spent the month in South Korea just in case something happened to the American team.

Alexa Knierim and her husband, Chris Knierim, wound up competing as planned. O’Shea and Kayne did not.

“To be so close and not make it, it was devastating, right?” O’Shea said. “They don’t usually send alternates, but with only one pair, they wanted me to stay in Asia after Four Continents and be close by. It was one of the coolest, hardest moments of my life.”

Kayne eventually left the sport amid allegations of misconduct related to their former coach, Dalilah Sappenfield, who subsequently was banned by the United States Center for SafeSport for physical and emotional abuse, among other charges.

O’Shea spent a season skating with Chelsea Liu before teaming up with Kam for the 2022-23 season.

The 21-year-old Kam, who was born at Yakota Air Base in Japan, and O’Shea quickly became the top U.S. pairs team. They have never been off the podium in four trips to nationals, winning the title in 2024 and the silver medal last month in St. Louis.

“It’s been really hard work,” Kam said, “but it’s nice to know that when I get through the day, I did enough.”

The U.S. has never had a pairs Olympic champion. In fact, it hasn’t had a medalist of any flavor since Jill Watson and Peter Oppegard earned the bronze medal at the 1988 Calgary Games, and Kam and O’Shea are not considered favorites in the individual pairs event.

But they certainly left their mark on the team event.

They were fifth in the short program, edging reigning Olympic champions Sui Wenjing and Han Cong, helping the U.S. build a lead going into the free skate. There, they finished fourth ahead of Canada’s Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud, giving them an extra point that ended up being the margin of victory for the Americans against silver medalist Japan.

“It’s what you worked your entire life for, both of us, since we were 4 years old,” O’Shea said. “You put every ounce of spare time — every time you could have gone and hang out with friends or had, I don’t know, normal moments, right? Instead, you’re back putting in the time on the ice. The sacrifices from our family but also from us, it just all goes into making this happen.”

MILAN, Metropolitan City of Milan — Controversy is swirling in curling at the Winter Olympics, and it’s all centering on whether the mighty Canadian team is cheating.

Both men’s and women’s teams have now been accused of the same infraction: double-touching the curling stone after it is released.

It comes as the historic curling powerhouse finds its ego bruised. Its mixed doubles team didn’t even play for a medal, and its women’s team cannot afford to lose more matches if they hope to advance.

Here’s a look at the whole controversy and why it has exploded.

On Friday, Swedish curler Oskar Eriksson accused Canadian curler Marc Kennedy of breaking the rules by touching the rock again after initially releasing it down the sheet of ice. Kennedy blew up, launching an expletive-laden outburst.

That was before video appearing to show a clear double-touch by Kennedy circulated on social media, taken by Swedish public broadcaster SVT. Still, he maintained his innocence. The Canadians won the match, 8-6.

Late Saturday, an umpire accused acclaimed Canadian skip Rachel Homan of the same infraction in Canada’s match against Switzerland. The umpire stopped play and the stone was removed from play. Homan looked shocked and denied the allegation.

Again, video spread on social media appearing to show her double-touch. The Canadians lost to the Swiss, 8-7.

After the uproar, World Curling clarified that double-tapping is not allowed, issuing a statement: “During forward motion, touching the granite of the stone is not allowed. This will result in the stone being removed from play.”

The controversy widened Sunday as increased surveillance of the matches resulted in the removal of a stone thrown by the British men’s team.

In the ninth end of Britain’s round robin match against Germany, officials said Scottish curler Bobby Lammie had touched a stone after releasing it down the ice. That is called “double-touching,” and it is against the rules. Britain won the match 9-4.

Beginning Saturday, World Curling said it would designate two officials to move between the four curling matches during each round but noted it was “not possible” to have umpires stationed at each hog line — where the stones must be released by hand — during every match.

It was not known whether officials were watching some teams more closely than others. World Curling says it does not use video replays for reviewing game play.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State’s aspirations to join a FBS conference look to be finally coming true. 

The Hornets are reportedly making the leap to join after the Mid-American Conference (MAC) voted to formally add Sac State as a football-only member starting in 2026, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. 

The total cost of joining the MAC is reportedly $23 million for Sac State, ESPN says. The university will pay an $18 million entrance fee to the MAC and would need an additional $5 million to the NCAA to move up, according to ESPN. 

Sac State football currently competes in the Football Subdivision Division (FCS) level of Division I college football. The Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) is the highest level in the sport. 

The football program left the Big Sky Conference following the 2025 season. The university will compete in the Big West Conference in other sports beginning in the 2026-27 academic year. 

The university has been ambitious about joining the FBS, previously expressing interest in joining the Pac-12 Conference after several member schools left for other conferences. 

Sac State would have the furthest travel of all MAC teams, as all football programs in the conference are located in Massachusetts, Ohio, Indiana and Michigan.

YUBA COUNTY, Calif. — The Yuba Water Agency is assessing damage the day after a pipe burst at the New Colgate Powerhouse in Dobbins.

The agency says today’s efforts will focus on investigating the cause, securing site safety and responding to potential environmental impacts in the Yuba River.

“Right now, we’re focusing on doing everything we can to prevent any additional debris from entering the Yuba River and continuing to secure the site ahead of forecasted rain tomorrow,” said Yuba Water Agency General Manager Willie Whittlesey in a statement.

Friday afternoon, Officials said there was a serious incident at their penstock pipe, which moves water from New Bullards Bar Dam to their powerhouse on the Yuba River. Officials said the dam remains safe and stable and was not affected by the incident.

The agency said the penstock suffered a “catastrophic failure,” which resulted in an unplanned release of water. All personnel have been accounted for following the incident and one person remains hospitalized, officials said.

A PG&E spokesperson said when the pipe broke, it flooded a PG&E substation, which caused about 15,000 customers to lose power around 3 p.m. Friday. The substation was described as a switching station south of Dobbins.

Yuba Water said it is conducting surveys of the North and Middle Yuba rivers to map debris and identify high-concentration areas.

Crews are also assessing the impact of the break on hillside erosion, and people should avoid Lake Francis Road and its surrounding area.
