PARIS — France’s former Culture Minister Jack Lang has resigned as head of a Paris cultural center over alleged past financial links to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein that prompted a tax investigation.
He is the highest-profile figure in France impacted by the release of Epstein files on Jan. 30 by the U.S. Department of Justice. He is known for his role as a culture minister under Socialist President Franois Mitterrand in the 1980s and 1990s.
Lang, 86, was summoned to appear at the French Foreign Ministry, which oversees the Arab World Institute, on Sunday, but he submitted his resignation.
He “is very sad and deeply hurt to be leaving a position he loves,” his lawyer Laurent Merlet said Sunday on RTL radio. “He put the interests of the Arab World Institute first,” Merlet said, adding that his client denied the allegations and called them inaccurate.
The Foreign Ministry confirmed his resignation Saturday evening.
The financial prosecutors’ office said it had opened an investigation into Lang and his daughter, Caroline, over alleged “aggravated tax fraud laundering.”
French investigative news website Mediapart reported last week on alleged financial and business ties between the Lang family and Jeffrey Epstein through an offshore company based in the U.S. Virgin Islands in the Caribbean Sea.
Jack Lang’s name was mentioned more than 600 times in the Epstein files, showing intermittent correspondence between 2012 and 2019. His daughter was also in the released files.
Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot has “taken note” of Lang’s resignation and began the process to look for his successor, the foreign ministry said.
Lang headed the Arab World Institute since 2013.

As a team , LaSalle grabbed fifteen offensive rebounds but gave up 51 second-half points and had a field goal percentage of only 32.8% from the floor.
The Explorers fell to 3–8 in the A-10 Conference.

Sure — when your NFL Team is ninety-two years old, like a lifetime full of tons of happy memories and some that you’d probably rather forget — it’s often hard to believe that one moment defines you.
And of course — from a franchise that stopped Emmitt Smith on 4th and 1 in 1995, threw a 46-yard dagger into the Chiefs’ secondary in the second half of Super Bowl LIX to end the competitive phase of the contest, and pulled off not one but three Miracles in the Meadowlands — it’s hard to pick just one moment. But it certainly helps when ESPN’s SportsCenter 30 for 30 has produced a film about one of those moments.
Eight years ago this weekend , the Eagles won Super Bowl LII. That brought home the first-ever Lombardi Trophy for the franchise, even without quarterback Carson Wentz, Jason Peters, Darren Sproles, or Jordan Hicks, by defeating the New England Patriots, perhaps the best quarterback-coach combination in NFL history.
One aspect that defined the Eagles’ 2017–2018 season was their boldness in keeping the offense on the field on fourth down. Right before halftime and nursing a three-point advantage, this was no exception for Doug Pederson. Calling timeout — Pederson wildly scanned his playsheet. When Foles ran over to the sideline, and their eyes met , he immediately asked for Philly, Philly . This play had been included in the Eagles’ Install Package two weeks earlier for the NFC Championship Game against Minnesota. Moments later , Cory Clement took the snap, flipped it to Trey Burton, who threw the ball to Nick Foles for a touchdown to put the Eagles up by ten.
The Philly Special was not the play that won the Super Bowl. The Eagles would need some 4th-quarter magic on both offense and defense to win 41–33, and even trailed 33–32 in the final period.
But what the Philly Special did was to symbolize the fearlessness of the 2017-2018 Philadelphia Eagles. Not only the confidence to go for it on fourth down, but to run a play that they had never called before.
One whose unyielding resolve had never waivered in its support — each season waiting for another championship celebration — the first since 1960.
One year ago, thousands of fans who enjoyed a 55–23 rout of the Washington Commanders at the Linc — passed a bronze statue capturing that decisive moment when Foles and Pederson decided on a play to stun the opposing team completely. It will forever live as the most remembered play from a storied franchise nearly as old as the NFL itself — a play known now to the ages with just two words:

Four people, including two firefighters, were injured during a house fire in Wilmington, Delaware, on Sunday afternoon, fire officials said.
Fire crews responded to the blaze at around 1:40 p.m. at the 400 block of West 29th Street, officials said.
First responders initially believed two people were still inside the burning home, causing them to go inside to try to rescue them, officials said.
Two firefighters received burn injuries during the search and are in stable condition, officials said.
Although it turned out that the two people who were inside had escaped before the search began, two people were taken to the hospital due to smoke inhalation and their conditions are unknown at this time, officials said.
The home where they fire originated and the adjoining home have been deemed uninhabitable, and the Red Cross is helping people who have been displaced find temporary housing, officials said.

NEW CASTLE, Del. (WPVI) — The New Castle County Division of Police is mourning the loss of Detective Christopher Skrobot.
He passed away Thursday after a courageous battle with blood cancer.
Detective Skrobot served the department for ten years, working with the Police Motorcycle Unit and the Evidence Detective Unit.
He also proudly volunteered with the Claymont Fire Company.
Detective Skrobot was just 33 years old.
He is survived by his wife and two children.

Charlie Puth is bringing his musical talents to the 2026 Super Bowl on Sunday as he’s set to sing the national anthem before the New England Patriots face off against the Seattle Seahawks at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
The 34-year-old musician — known for pop hits like “See You Again,” “We Don’t Talk Anymore,” “Attention,” and “Marvin Gaye” — has called the national anthem “one of the most beautiful pieces of music.” But he’s also described it as “the hardest to sing.”
In a social media video Puth posted in November about his upcoming Super Bowl performance, he explained that the “Star Spangled Banner” requires an extreme vocal range. Puth said that while most songs will have a range of one octave, such as a low D to a high D, the national anthem goes from a low D to a high A.
Here’s what you need to know about the singer-songwriter:
Born in Rumson, New Jersey, Puth told CBS News in a 2022 interview that he realized he possessed musical talent from a very young age. His mother was a music teacher and his father a builder. He has perfect pitch, or absolute pitch — a rare gift for identifying or re-creating a given a pitch or musical note.
“My ten-year-old brain thought, ‘I could just listen to the record and play it back just by hearing it.’ And I thought that was a ‘normal’ thing!”
In a 2015 interview with the Boston Globe, he also said that he grew up “down the street” from Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi.

The Grammy-nominated artist first gained notice for his vocal talent by posting videos to YouTube. His cover of Adele’s “Someone Like You” caught the attention of Ellen DeGeneres in 2011. He released his debut album, “Nine Track Mind,” in 2016.
In addition to writing his own music, Puth has also produced hits for other artists. He’s credited for Justin Bieber and The Kid LAROI’s “Stay,” “Celebrate” by Pitbull, “Slow Motion” by Trey Songz, “Lips on You” by Maroon 5 and “Bedroom Floor” by Liam Payne.
During the COVID pandemic, Puth embraced content creation on TikTok, dubbing himself “Professor Puth” in videos in which he talked about his songwriting process and other musical fun facts.
The national anthem singer for the Super Bowl is chosen by the NFL and Jay-Z’s entertainment and sports representation company, Roc Nation.
In 2019, the league teamed up with Roc Nation on the Super Bowl’s entertainment presentations. In an interview with Rolling Stone last month, Puth said that he wanted to perform at Super Bowl LX, and sent a recorded demo to Roc Nation co-founder Jay Brown.
“I’ve been told this, I don’t know if it’s true, but he played it for Jay-Z and Jay-Z loved it,” Puth told the magazine. “And it got to [NFL Commissioner Roger] Goodell and they all said that I could do it.”
Last year, Jon Batiste sang the national anthem before the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles faced off in the 2025 Super Bowl.
In 2024, country music icon Reba McEntire put her own spin on “The Star Spangled Banner.” Another country singer, Chris Stapleton, had the honors in 2023.
Other superstars who have performed the song at the Super Bowl include Luther Vandross (1997), Cher (1999), Beyoncé (2004), Billy Joel (2007), Christina Aguilera (2011) and Lady Gaga (2016).
Puth will be the second New Jersey native to perform the song, following Whitney Houston in 1991.
“I’m going to be inspired by what Whitney did, but I can’t ever touch what Whitney did,” he told Rolling Stone in January. “That’s the best one ever done — that and the Chris Stapleton one.”
National anthem performances at the Super Bowl have varied in length over the years, but it can generally be expected to run somewhere between a minute and two minutes long.
The longest Super Bowl anthem performance recorded so far was that of Alicia Keys at Super Bowl XLVII in 2013, who took 2 minutes and 36 seconds, according to DraftKings.
The shortest performance belonged to Neil Diamond, who sang it in one minute 2 seconds at Super Bowl XXI in 1987.

PHILADELPHIA – As dangerously low temperatures settled over the city Saturday, one Elkins Park resident mobilized her neighbors to help people struggling to stay warm.
Liz Lowry said she learned that community outreach organizations in Kensington were urgently seeking donations. She put out a call for help on social media- and the response was immediate.
“Within 3 hours we had a mountain of collections which I took over to the Sunshine House in Kensington and they were just thrilled to receive this,” Lowry said. “There were people waiting for the blankets as soon as I pulled up.”
Lowry is partnering with Recovery Done Simple to keep the effort going. Executive director David Carr said the demand on the streets is overwhelming.
“We’re out there 4 times a week and we’re bringing out bags full of blankets and jackets and within minutes they’re gone,” Carr said. “So the need is beyond great.”
Across Philadelphia, few residents ventured outside in the bitter cold. Kelly Drive along the icy Schuylkill River was mostly quiet, aside from the occasional runner braving the elements.
“Well, the simple answer is I just love running,” said Bridgette Tullier of Fairmount. “I run every single day, anywhere from 4 to 7 miles sometimes 10. So I didn’t want to take a break today. And currently, I am wearing five layers.”
For a group of tourists from Ghana, no amount of layers could prepare them for this type of weather.
“This is our first time experiencing this type of cold and it hasn’t been easy,” said Justice Adom.
Still, the weather didn’t deter a group of New York University students, who were determined to make the most of their day trip and run up the Rocky steps.
“Of course. Philadelphia has so many nice things to do,” said Sumeed Saleem. “We went to Paddy’s pub earlier from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. We were just playing the music and we’re gonna run up the stairs now as well.”
The Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management reminded residents that warming centers are open throughout the city. A map of locations is availablehere.

Terrance Gore, a former outfielder and three-time World Series champion known for his blazing speed on the base paths, has died at 34 years old, according to Major League Baseball officials. A cause of death has not yet been revealed.

The Georgia native played in parts of eight big league seasons, five of which came with the Kansas City Royals, who drafted him in the 2011 MLB Draft out of Gulf Coast State College in Florida.
“We are heartbroken from the loss of Terrance Gore, and send our love to his family and loved ones,” said a statement shared by the Royals.
He won his first World Series with Kansas City in 2015, despite not being a member of the team’s World Series roster after playing in the American League Divisional and Championship Series that postseason. Gore won back-to-back titles as a member of the 2020 Los Angeles Dodgers and 2021 Atlanta Braves.
“The Dodgers express their sorrow over the sudden passing of Terrance Gore, a member of our 2020 World Series champions,” the Dodgers said on X. “We send our condolences to his loved ones.”
In one of the more unique professional careers, Gore only played in112 games and had 85 plate appearances. Largely used as a pinch-runner, he had just 16 hits and one RBI but tallied 43 stolen bases on 52 attempts. He was 5-for-5 in postseason stolen base attempts as well.
Despite making his debut in 2014, Gore didn’t get his first MLB hit until 2018. It was just 12 at-bats into his career.

Gore also appeared for the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets, making his last big league appearance in 2022.
He is survived by his wife and three children, MLB said. They live in Florida where Gore was working as a trainer and coached his son’s baseball team.

“TODAY” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie addressed her mother’s possible kidnapper in a new Instagram video Saturday, saying the family would “pay” for the 84-year-old woman’s safe return.
“We received your message and we understand,” Savannah Guthrie said, seated alongside her brother, Camron, and sister, Annie. “We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace.”
“This is very valuable to us, and we will pay,” Savannah Guthrie said in closing, clutching her siblings’ hands.
Guthrie’s video message did not provide specifics about the message she referenced.
At least three news outlets have received a possible ransom note, and it is not clear if she was referencing those notes or another communication. NBC News has reviewed a copy of the note. No law enforcement agency has so far substantiated the note.
The FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department said Friday they were aware of a new message regarding Guthrie, which investigators were inspecting for authenticity. It is not known whether this message was connected to the initial unverified note or sender.
Nancy Guthrie was reported missing from her home north of Tuscson, Arizona, around noon Sunday after she did not show up at church. She was last seen the night before around 9:45 p.m. after having dinner at Annie Guthrie’s home.
The sheriff’s department believes Guthrie was taken “possibly in the middle of the night, and that includes possible kidnapping or abduction.” State and federal law enforcement officials are involved in the investigation, including the FBI.
In a statement Wednesday, the sheriff’s department said investigators have not identified a suspect or a person of interest. Authorities previously said they have no credible information that Guthrie’s possible abduction was a targeted incident.
Investigators believe Guthrie is “still out there” and remain committed to bringing her home safely.
Attorney General Pam Bondi said Friday that the Justice Department is working with local law enforcement to locate the mother of “TODAY” show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie and asked the public to pray for her safe return.

As the calendar turns to February, the thought of baseball begins to enter people’s minds.
Pitchers and catchers will report on February 11th, which is just two weeks away.
They took care of business by resigning both Kyle Schwarber to a 5-year, $150 million contract extension and JT Realmuto to a 3-year, $45 million contract. They added a veteran outfielder, Adolis Garcia, who’s spent his entire career with the Texas Rangers, by signing him to a one-year, $10 million contract.
The Phillies are also hopeful that rookie outfielder Justin Crawford and rookie starting pitcher Andrew Painter will have an immediate impact on the team.
The problems lie with the fact that they missed out on the big fish in Bo Bichette, who decided that the New York Mets would be a better place for him to win.
The Mets pretty much outbid the Phillies by offering him a three-year, $126 million contract. Bichette is owed $42 million with opt-outs after the first and second year. The kicker is that he has an opt-out after the first and second year, so it’s very likely this could be a one-year deal.
The Phillies also lost key starting pitcher Ranger Suarez to the Boston Red Sox, who signed him to a 5-year $130 million contract. Suarez is a great pitcher, especially in the postseason. Still, his injury history and a history of tailing off at the end of the regular season made the Phillies hesitant to offer him that much money, especially when top prospect Andrew Painter will hopefully be on the opening-day roster in 2026.
At this point, it feels like the same team that lost in the NLDS last year, and fans are concerned that this season will involve much of the same. The Mets and Dodgers both got significantly better as the Dodgers went out and signed top outfield FA Kyle Tucker, joining an already absurd lineup. The Atlanta Braves will look to have a bounce-back year as well, hoping guys like Austin Riley, Ronald Acuna Jr, Spencer Strider, and Matt Olson can all stay healthy throughout the season. The NL East will be much more competitive this year, and the Phillies are returning most of the same team.
Rob Thomson did not take kindly to the term “running it back,” as he made it known in his press conference a few weeks ago that this team is different in terms of the bullpen, the addition of Adolis Garcia, Otto Kemp, and the opportunity that Justin Crawford will have this season as well. We got an outfielder to replace losing Kepler and eventually Nick Castellanos, Otto Kemp, who was solid but is most likely a platoon player, and an improved bullpen despite losing Matt Strahm. That’s some real groundbreaking stuff, according to manager Rob Thomson. I beg to differ.
The consensus among the Phillies fans I’ve spoken to this offseason is that they’re very underwhelmed with how they handled it. Now that’s a take I agree with. Getting Schwarber back is enormous, and they are hopeful that Adolis Garcia can provide a spark for this team as he has in the past for the Rangers, especially in the postseason. I’m also very eager to see how top SS prospect Aidan Miller looks in spring training this year. It wouldn’t surprise me if he gets called up before June if Alec Bohm is either traded or struggles early on.
One of the last pieces to fall this offseason will be what happens with Nick Castellanos. The Phillies owe him $20 million next year, which is highway robbery on Castellanos’ end. It’s been expected that he would be traded or released all offseason. While neither has yet to happen, the Phillies will most likely be forced to release him, especially after the way he handled things with Rob Thomson last year.
Pitchers and catchers report next week in Clearwater, Florida, for the start of 2026 spring training.
It feels like just yesterday we were watching Kerkering throw the ball over JT’s head while the Eagles lost to the Giants that same night.
