World Animal Reiki Day is a special day dedicated to the healing power of animal reiki. Reiki is an ancient Japanese practice that focuses on using energy to heal. Animal reiki allows us to connect and communicate with animals–including our pets, and to understand them better and provide healing remedies for them.
When is World Animal Reiki Day?
World Animal Reiki Day is celebrated every year on February 5. The pet holiday was founded by Shelter Animal Reiki Association (SARA). The day focuses on the Let Animals Lead® Method of Animal Reiki meditation as a way to help shelter pets and rescued animals. Share photos on this day using hashtag #WorldAnimalReikiDay.
The day was selected because it was the birthday of Dakota, an Australian Shepherd rescued by the founder of SARA who served as the inspiration for the association.
What is Animal Reiki?
Animal Reiki is an alternative healing technique that promotes physical, emotional and spiritual wellbeing in animals, both pets and wildlife.
The practice of Animal Reiki involves light touches and gentle strokes on an animal’s body to transfer healing energy from the practitioner to the animal to harmonize the energy of both the animal and their caregiver and allow for a deeper connection between them.
Practitioners of reiki work to create a sense of calmness, helping an animal relax, reduce pain levels and relieve stress or anxiety in animals–especially important in high-stress settings such as animal shelters.
Celebrating World Animal Reiki Day
Shelter Animal Reiki Association suggests several different ways to recognize World Animal Reiki Day from planning an animal reiki talk at a local shelter or pet supply store to lighting a candle during meditations to honor the animals who have been your teachers.
The association especially works to help shelter animals and has published a handbook on the practice.
“Shelters are often an animal’s last hope and a chance at a new life,” says director Kathleen Prasad, who runs the organization with fellow directors Leah D’Ambrosio and Caly Lehrer. “But for some animals, the stress of being in a kennel is almost unbearable. With Reiki, I’ve seen amazing healing responses—imagine watching a loud kennel full of hyperactive, stressed-out dogs transform into quiet, peaceful naptime space. The Animal Reiki Handbook is one way to get more people out there helping the animals who need it most.”
Your pet is your family member, so it’s only normal you want to make sure they’re as comfortable and happy as possible. Therefore, taking good care of your pet is essential to provide them with a long and happy life. However, many pet owners forget that, like people, pets require a restful night’s sleep to function at their best. Just like yourself, your pet deserves a little comfort when they sleep. So why not treat your pet to amemory foam bed? Not only do they offer comfort, but they also come with plenty of health benefits. So here are the top benefits of memory foam beds for your pet.
Memory foam beds come with plenty of benefits for your pets
It’s common knowledge that pets spend a lot of their time sleeping. For instance, dogs spend an incredible 14 hours a day sleeping (which is more than half of a dog’s life), while it’s common for cats to sleep between 12 and 18 hours a day. Having this in mind, it’s that much more important to be mindful and choose the right bed for your pet.
When it comes to pet beds, the ones made with memory foam definitely take the first prize. In addition to providing your pet with a soft, comfortable place to sleep, a memory foam bed has many other advantages. A memory foam bed is the best option because of its many positive effects on your pet’s health.
When you put your pet on a bed made of memory foam, it conforms to its shape. This helps in reducing the stress on sore muscles or joints. The best part is that they come in all sizes, so you don’t have to worry if you’re an owner of a big dog. Investing in a memory foam bed for your pet is one of the best ways to make your home safe and healthy for your furry friend.
#1 You’ll give your pet a good night’s sleep
If you already have a memory foam mattress, you probably know all about the benefits of the material and how it can improve your sleep. The same is true for your pets, too. As mentioned above, they spend a lot of their time sleeping. So, you need to make sure they sleep well.
The pure comfort that a memory foam bed will deliver is probably the most noticeable benefit. If your pet is young and healthy, it will sleep better than ever. The same holds true for humans: the better sleep quality you get, the better off you’ll be.
#2 Help relieve and prevent pain
Although memory foam beds are suitable for pets of all ages, senior dogs or ones with joint or muscle issues will benefit the most from sleeping on a memory foam bed. Plus, your pet can maintain a more comfortable body temperature. This is something that soft, fluffy mattresses can’t achieve. These beds include breathable and waterproof linings that help regulate your pet’s temperature during colder and warmer months.
Memory foam mattresses are ideal for both treating existing pain and preventing future pain due to their unique blend of pressure point relief and support. Your pet will feel the most relief from aches and pains when their bodies are properly aligned, contoured, and not overly supported. You can bet your pet will wake up cheerful after a pain-free and restful sleep on a memory foam bed. A pain-free everyday life is one of the best benefits of memory foam for your pet.
#3 Memory foam supports back and spine alignment
By dispersing their weight across a larger area, memory foam beds provide comfortable support for your pet’s entire body. The mattress molds to the shape of their body, providing low back support and keeping the spine in a natural alignment as they sleep. This will help prevent your pet from experiencing pain in the future.
#4 Improving your pet’s overall health
Because of their active lifestyle, your pet’s muscles and bones will experience wear and tear over time. And the same can be said for any dog, regardless of its age. A memory foam dog bed can benefit your pet’s general health and mobility by relieving stress from the joints and bones. The release of this tension improves blood circulation to the affected areas. This will help your dog recover from an injury or the after-effects of exercise more quickly by increasing blood flow to the affected areas.
#5 They are durable
Even though memory foam pet beds can be more expensive than other options, they are an investment that will last for years to come. An investment in a long-lasting product like California Dreaming Memory Foam Bed will save you money in the long term compared to a less expensive option. This product is made to withstand your pet’s scratching and chewing and won’t sag even when fully loaded.
So, if you catch your pet digging or scratching in the middle of the night, you should not panic. You can rest assured that their brand-new memory foam mattress is safe from this natural instinct. On top of this, memory foam beds are simple and easy to clean. While memory foam beds may appear bulkier than traditional ones at first glance, they require less maintenance and stay smelling fresh for longer.
#6 They help reduce stress and anxiety
A memory foam bed can provide comfort and security for your pet, especially if they are anxious or nervous because you have just adopted them from a shelter. Pets, especially dogs, have an innate need for den-like sleeping quarters. So getting them a memory foam basket or pet bed will provide them with a safe haven to relax and unwind in peace.
This is great for calming nervous or scared pets and helping new pets adjust to their new home. Overall, there aren’t any negative sides to investing in a memory foam bed for your pet.
Now that you know the benefits of memory foam beds for your pet wait no more but start looking for that comfy new bed for your furry family member. Remember, your pet deserves only the best, so it’s crucial to research and not rush your decision. Choose a product with your pet in mind which will fully satisfy your pet’s needs. Also, nowadays, being mindful of environmental issues is more than important. That’s why we strongly encourage you to support eco-friendly manufacturers, too.

Manatees, the gentle giants commonly seen in Florida’s waterways, are once again facing challenges over the winter. It used to be due to unusually chilly cold snaps, but in recent years it’s had as much to do with food — or a lack of it. This is a creature who can’t ever seem to catch a break.
If they’re not being run over and scarred by speeding boaters, then they’re searching for warmer waters to keep from freezing. Now, the seagrasses they sustain themselves on are dying off from pollution. The problem’s not new, but it is getting worse.

Because of its warm waters, the Florida Power & Light plant in Cape Canaveral sees hundreds of manatees packed into the intake canal on its southeast edge during winter months. Unfortunately, pollution along the Space Coast has decimated their usual diet of seagrasses typically found in the Indian River Lagoon, leading to starvation for many. For example, in 2021, 1,101 manatees died. In 2022, things weren’t much better, with the official estimate being nearly 800 deaths by December.
Now, in January 2023, members of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are providing them with lettuce tossed along the edges of the canal in hopes of saving as many of them as possible.

“It’s just emblematic of how dire the situation is,” stated Rachel Silverstein, executive director of the environmental nonprofit Miami Waterkeeper. “The point where we would need to artificially feed a wild animal because their ecosystem is so destroyed that they cannot find food for themselves is pretty extreme.”
A feeding program to supplement their food intake began in early 2022 and started again this winter due to what marine experts have called an “unusual mortality event” among sea cows. “It probably kept the manatees alive,” Silverstein acknowledged, “but it’s not a sustainable condition for manatees in the long term to need to rely on an artificial food source.” While it isn’t ideal, efforts still need to be made.

Native to Florida, manatees are typically 9 to 10 feet in length and weigh around 1,000 pounds, but they can grow up to 13 feet long and weigh more than 3,500 pounds. As herbivores, they do this by spending up to eight hours a day grazing on seagrasses and other aquatic plants, consuming between 4 to 9 percent of their body weight in vegetation each day. That’s a lot of grass.

What you can do
Support ‘Fighting for Wildlife’ by donating as little as $1 – It only takes a minute. Thank you.
Fighting for Wildlife supports approved wildlife conservation organizations, which spend at least 80 percent of the money they raise on actual fieldwork, rather than administration and fundraising. When making a donation you can designate for which type of initiative it should be used – wildlife, oceans, forests or climate.
When looking to support your pup’s optimal health, supplements will always come out as a hot topic. With many dog supplements on the market, all varying in price and health claims, it can be difficult for a new or even seasoned pet parent to choose the best ones. One thing is for sure: Recommendations for glucosamine for dogs have always remained a top choice among veterinarians, breeders and pet enthusiasts alike. Let’s jump right into discussing all things “glucosamine”!
What is glucosamine for dogs?
Glucosamine is a compound naturally found in the body that supports healthy formation and repair of cartilage and tissue and is often used to support both humans and canines. Many veterinarians recommend glucosamine for arthritic dogs, in addition or as an alternative to NSAIDs. While further studies are needed to continue confirming glucosamine’s positive results for dogs, many dog parents have reported healthy impacts.
Benefits of using glucosamine for dogs can include:
Improved joint function.
Help maintaining joint health.
Slowed onset of arthritis.
Anti-inflammatory properties.
Best glucosamine supplements for dogs
Glucosamine supplements are commonly paired with chondroitin, a similar compound, or methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), which is primarily used as an anti-inflammatory. Studies show positive results when using these compounds together to treat osteoarthritis. Glucosamine is often found in fish oils, as well. In fact, a new human study has reported better results when using high doses of omega-3 fatty acids and glucosamine simultaneously, as opposed to just glucosamine.
Many of the recommended veterinary glucosamine products are blended supplements, containing other therapeutic supplements and herbs; one of the most commonly recommended being Dasuquin. In addition to glucosamine, Dasuquin includes other therapeutic ingredients such as MSM, chondroitin, green tea extract and boswellia. Thorne Arthoplex is another glucosamine blend made from Throne’s veterinary line that includes additional ingredients, such as MSM, curcumin and chondroitin.
If you shop around and find another glucosamine product on the market, run it by your holistic or traditional veterinarian. Many, if not most, glucosamine supplements are not FDA approved. Consider this when shopping for your dog’s glucosamine product!
Glucosamine dosage for dogs
The best approach to starting your dog on a glucosamine supplement is consulting with your veterinarian! As mentioned above, many reputable glucosamine supplements include additional ingredients, and this should be considered when calculating your dog’s glucosamine dose. However, here are some broad glucosamine dosage guidelines for dogs:
Glucosamine supplements tend to have a “loading dose” where the initial dose administration is larger than the maintenance dose.
For joint health, glucosamine doses usually begin at 50-100mg/kg once daily. This is for an oral/by mouth supplement.
Maintenance use may be a lower dose.
Managing your pup’s health with nutraceuticals is a great way to support him using natural approaches. This can be especially helpful for dogs where pharmaceuticals (such as NSAIDs like Rimadyl or Carprofen) are contraindicated or used with increased caution. There are many, many supplements on the market for your dog, so always check with your vet before starting your dog on a glucosamine, or any new, supplement.

A brave dog owner sustained severe bite sounds after protecting his dog from two other dogs being walked by a woman.
At around 11 o’clock in the evening, Joe Chan, 40, was walking his Labrador, Momo, on Lakeview Avenue in Rowville, in the eastern part of Melbourne, when two dogs walking ahead turned and attacked his dog.
Chan placed his own life on the line by freeing Momo from one of the dog’s jaws. After being pulled to the ground, Chan was bitten seven times. He was then left to call for help and neighbors stepped in and called an ambulance for him. According to Chan, the owner of the two dogs passed out during the encounter, got up, and then left without saying anything to him.
The encounter resulted in Momo receiving six bites. Chan required two nights in the hospital due to the severe injuries he encountered. Fortunately, his dog survived but is left with physical and mental scars.
He said, ‘I’m scared he would die, he’s my family.’
‘That dog tried to attack my dog (on the neck), so my dog may die.’
Mr. Chan wants the woman to apologize to him for the incident but is not demanding that the animals be put down.
‘I hope that woman can come out and say sorry,’ he said.
Victoria has signed off on a plan to increase the number of kangaroos legally killed in the state by a third, in a move criticised by animal welfare advocates.
The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action has released a report on the state’s commercial kangaroo harvesting program and “authority to control wildlife” permit scheme.
It recommends the number of grey kangaroos culled for harvesting of their meat increase to 166,730 for 2023, up 30% from last year.
The number of permits handed out to landholders to shoot kangaroos on their property is set to rise by 19% to 69,600.
In total, the overall quota of kangaroos to be culled has increased by 27% – from 185,850 in 2022 to 236,350 in 2023.
The increased quota was derived from aerial surveys in September and October last year within the state’s seven kangaroo harvest zones.
From those, the statewide grey kangaroo population was estimated at 2.4 million with the recommended cull target set at 10% of the total.
“The abundance of grey kangaroos within the non-forested parts of Victoria has increased by approximately 24% compared with that reported from the 2020 aerial survey, with notable increases in the point estimates evident in five of the seven harvest zones,” the report said.
“This increase has been most likely due to the mild and moderately wet conditions experienced in Victoria over the last two years.
“The increase in the population of grey kangaroos has resulted in an increase in the total allowable take of kangaroos.”Newly elected Animal Justice party MP Georgie Purcell said kangaroos have suffered from natural disasters such as flooding over the past 12 months.
“It is completely remiss of the Victorian government to accept a population report that does not include this at all,” she said.
“We don’t know how many kangaroos have been lost in unprecedented flooding across Victoria, and yet the government has approved a 27% increase.”
AAP has contacted the department for comment.

For many of you that have been on a Londolozi Safari before this will almost be second nature to you, but for those yet to still visit us, here is a little glimpse into what a day on safari entails.
The soft dull hues of first light begin to creep over the horizon breaking the dark starry night sky at about 04h30. With the sun rising not too long after that.
The hippo calls in the river below you as they have made their way back to the water after spending the night feeding. Or the distance lion roars as they announce their presence before they settle in for the day. Perhaps the dawn chorus of birds begins to chatter all while eagerly awaiting the day ahead.
The beauty in the morning gives you a sense of ease as dawn begins to fade as the outside world begins to wake up. Before you know it, you are awake and ready to go as the morning wake-up call rings in at 05h00. Once dressed and set for the day, a delicious selection of tea, coffee and various edibles awaits you on the main camp deck, along with your sprightly ranger.
The morning coffee comprises of a variety of teas, freshly squeezed orange juice, homemade muffins, fruit and a South African staple – rusks.
After a little caffeine fix and nibble, if necessary or desired, we head up to the car park where the trackers are awaiting with a warm “good morning!”. Climbing aboard the vehicle before setting off into the wilderness for the morning Game Drive to discover what antics have unfolded during the course of the evening.
“As a guide and tracker team you try and give your guests the best experience possible with seeing as many different things as possible over their stay. The mornings are exciting as when you head out you try and piece together where the animals had moved throughout the night.”
When heading out on a drive, it is best to set a purpose or intention for the drive which is often guided by our guests’ expectations and what they would like to see. With this in mind, our knowledge of the animals, their behaviour, movement patterns, as well as where other rangers intend on going on their drive, we devise a plan and decide on where the best possible area will be to search for such animals we hope to locate.
Nick Tennick lays out the game drive plans to his guests in Varty car park before setting off for another safari.
The crisp tracks and signs of the animals give the talented trackers clues as to which direction they might have moved in, and guides us to what will hopefully be an exciting sighting.
Seeing these three leopards together is an absolute privilege. The Nkoveni Female has done an incredible job at raising them to this age.
At some point midway through the drive, we punctuate the activity by finding a suitable place to stop for some coffee, a time to stretch our legs. The morning coffee stop has a selection of teas, hot chocolate, coffee, and if you are feeling up to it; the infamous bush coffee – coffee with hot chocolate and Amarula cream liqueur (a liqueur made from the fruits of Marula trees that often decorate the horizon and likely one you are standing under during your stop).
Tracker Sersant Sibuyi was caught quietly appreciating the perfect combination of chocolate chip cookies and a cup of coffee…
There are of course some light snacks- rusks, delicious chocolate chip cookies, and dried mangos. Once we have finished our coffee stop we climb back onto the vehicle and slowly meander our way back to the lodge for a decadent breakfast.
Once you are back in camp the butlers and camp managers await your arrival and breakfast is ready when you are. We, the ranger and tracker, say our goodbyes as we eagerly await to see you again in the afternoon. This is now a time to make the most of your gorgeous rooms, spend long days by the pool, enjoy treatments at the Healing House, or visit the Londolozi Living Boutique and possibly edit a few photographs in the Photographic Studio.
After lunch at around 15h45, there will be tea, iced coffee, a selection of other thirst quenching beverages on the deck, accompanied by a delectable cake of the day and fresh fruit. Once the sweet tooth is satisfied, the next adventure into the African wilderness begins.
The afternoon game drive is the perfect opportunity to venture down to the Sand River in search of elephants drinking or cooling off, rhinos relaxing in mud wallows, and many others enjoying the shade of the magnificent trees dotted along the river bank while waiting for the heat of the day to subside. The strong warm summer’s rays begin to waver as the warm golden light of the fading sun illuminates the land. Slowly the sun begins to set over the distant Drakensberg Mountains and oranges and reds begin to fill the sky. Typically, an afternoon game drive is punctuated with a classic sundowner drink and snack.
Evening drinks out in the bush.
The day draws to a close and the night sky begins to take shape. The charm of the milky way begins to appear and scatter with twinkles of stars which fill the sky. The predators and nocturnal animals lay in wait until after sunset before beginning their evening activities, allowing for great viewing at night with the magical skies overhead.
You then begin to make your way back to the lodge for a delicious dinner at camp which the Londolozi chefs have lovingly prepared for you.
One of the best feelings about game drive is the sense of how present you are in that moment, as you wander through the different landscapes looking for animals. You never really know what you are going to see and the anticipation of it all is exciting.
Once the night sky has taken shape and the cooler evening air surrounds you we begin our journey back to camp, which is filled with the warming golden lanterns which lead you to dinner. After an evening around the fire, you head to to rest as we anticipate the next morning to do it all over again.
Carolina and her teenage son stood in the lobby of a Phoenix animal shelter with tears streaming down their faces. The boy clutched a fuzzy black and tan dog to his chest, occasionally whispering reassuring words into the pup’s floppy ear. A counselor for the Arizona Pet Project noticed their distress and invited them to share their story.
After 13 years in their home, Carolina and her family received notice that they must move out in just 30 days. The loving mom somehow managed to find an affordable place in the insanely competitive housing market; they even allowed dogs. But with first and last month’s rent and additional moving expenses, Carolina could not manage the additional pet deposit required by her new landlord.
The decision was gut-wrenching: let go of the new place and risk homelessness while searching and saving for another pet-friendly rental, or give up Maggie, the dog her family cherished.
Carolina knew she had to keep a roof over her children’s heads. So with a broken heart, she headed to the same shelter where she had joyfully adopted Maggie five years before. Luckily, the Arizona Pet Project was on the scene. Minutes after entering the shelter, Carolina’s heartbreak turned to pure joy. The 501c3 nonprofit offered to pay Maggie’s pet deposit so she could stay right where she belongs: in the arms of her loving family!
Sadly, Carolina and Maggie’s story isn’t unique. Countless pets are relinquished to shelters every year because of financial constraints or personal crises. Whether a family is facing poverty, housing issues, or domestic violence, the Arizona Pet Project is there to provide services and resources to prevent the unnecessary surrender of their beloved companions.
No One Should Have To Say Goodbye To Their Pet Due To An Unforeseen Medical Event
Whether a pet suffers an injury or a pet parent is diagnosed with an illness, companionship is more important than ever in times of medical crisis. Laurie was suffering from horrific back pain when she learned surgery was her only option for relief. As a doting dog mom to Pippa for eight years, Laurie’s first concern was what would happen to Pippa during her recovery.
Facing months of excruciating pain and limited mobility, Laurie felt her only option was to surrender ownership of the senior Schnauzer. As Laurie left a Phoenix shelter in tears, Daniel, one of Arizona Pet Project’s counselors, caught up with her. Daniel helped Laurie find care and support for Pippa so they could stay together throughout her recovery and beyond.
People experiencing homelessness often face charges for minor offenses like trespassing while simply trying to survive on the streets. Such was the case with Taydra, who found herself facing a 6-month jail sentence and the loss of her dearest companion, Whinny. With the help of their extensive network of nonprofit partners, the Arizona Pet Project placed Whinny in a wonderful boarding facility until she and Taydra could be reunited.
Like many victims of domestic violence, Sarah refused to leave her abusive relationship without her beloved dog. She was lucky enough to find shelter at the Sojourner Center, which offers a pet companion shelter to keep families and pets together. However, Sarah’s dog bit another resident’s dog amid the stress and chaos.
Terrified of losing her pooch, Sarah contacted the Arizona Pet Project, who paid for temporary boarding. Sarah was able to stay at the Sojourner Center until she could find permanent pet-friendly housing.
The amazing folks at the Arizona Pet Project believe everyone deserves to experience the love and joy that comes with having a pet. That’s why they are willing to help people in all sorts of different situations. Take Wanda, for example. She fell in love with a rowdy shelter pup named Baby.
Wanda wanted to give Baby an amazing home, but she needed help purchasing supplies. She reached out to the Arizona Pet Project, and they provided her with a crate, pee pads, and nutritious puppy food to help Baby grow up strong and healthy.
This unique organization got its start in 2001 as the Friends of Animal Care & Control Maricopa County. At the time, Phoenix area shelters were taking in approximately 105,000 dogs and cats each year and euthanizing about 70,000. To stem the influx of homeless pets, they became a shelter prevention agency offering free spay and neuter services. With the puppy and kitten problem under control, shelter intake numbers dropped to less than 50,000 pets per year and less than 9,000 euthanized.
Already a tremendous success, the team began to tackle issues facing older pets. They focused on community problems and created intervention programs to keep pets safely at home. Through a mix of grants and private donations, the Arizona Pet Project uses its partnerships with various human service agencies to provide temporary boarding, fostering services, pet deposits, emergency veterinary care, pet food and supplies, animal control fees, and much more.

Things To Consider Before Buying The Best Dog Beds for Your Papillon
All the products we reviewed are great choices, but to find the perfect one, you’ll want to consider these things:
1. Size
The size often has the biggest impact on how comfortable your Papillon is. Your pet should be able to lie down on the bed with its limbs fully extended.
For small dogs, it’s usually okay to use a larger breed bed as long as they can jump into it without any problem, but small beds aren’t suitable for large dogs.
2. Cushioning And Support
A Papillon’s comfort level is generally determined by its size, mobility, and overall health. Yet, the amount of cushioning in their bed also plays a role.
A small puppy won’t require as much cushion as a large, arthritic Papillon. Typically, less mobile dogs need thicker, sturdier foam to support their bodies comfortably.
3. Insulation Level
Depending on your climate and your dog’s breed, the insulation level of your pet’s bed can be crucial. It shouldn’t make your Papillon feel too hot or too cold.
It’s important to provide warmth to a thin and small breed with no undercoat in cold northern climates. However, in a tropical climate, it is crucial to provide a cooling bed to fluffy breeds.
4. Durability And Design
Various materials can be used to make dog beds, ranging from soft polyester to durable and hard-wearing fabrics. If your Papillon likes to tear apart stuffed toys, a fluffy fleece bed won’t last very long, so you should spend your money on something sturdier.
FAQs
What Kind of Bed is Best for Papillons?
A memory foam orthopedic bed is best for most Papillons. It conforms to your dog’s shape while supporting their aching joints. You should look for a waterproof orthopedic bed or waterproof cover for your elderly dog if they are prone to bladder leakage due to aging.

The size of a dog’s bed is naturally dictated by their size. The space should allow your canine companion to stretch out and sleep comfortably. The bed can even be placed inside your dog’s crate if needed. Most dogs don’t need beds bigger than their size, but they may appreciate the extra resting space.
Do Papillons Prefer Round Or Square Beds?
A longer, rectangular bed will be more comfortable for Papillons that stretch out when they sleep, but a round, soft bed may be more comfortable for dogs that curl up when sleeping.

Things To Consider Before Buying The Best Dog Beds for Your Pit Bull
All the products we reviewed are great choices, but to find the perfect one, you’ll want to consider these things:
1. Size
The size often has the biggest impact on how comfortable your Pit Bull is. Your pet should be able to lie down on the bed with its limbs fully extended.
For small dogs, it’s usually okay to use a larger breed bed as long as they can jump into it without any problem, but small beds aren’t suitable for large dogs.
2. Cushioning And Support
A Pit Bull‘s comfort level is generally determined by its size, mobility, and overall health. Yet, the amount of cushioning in their bed also plays a role.
A small puppy won’t require as much cushion as a large, arthritic Pit Bull. Typically, less mobile dogs need thicker, sturdier foam to support their bodies comfortably.
3. Insulation Level
Depending on your climate and your dog’s breed, the insulation level of your pet’s bed can be crucial. It shouldn’t make your Pit Bull feel too hot or too cold.
If your Pit Bull likes to tear apart stuffed toys, a fluffy fleece bed won’t last very long, so you should spend your money on something sturdier.

Things To Consider Before Buying The Best Dog Beds for Your Pug
All the products we reviewed are great choices, but to find the perfect one, you’ll want to consider these things:
1. Size
The size often has the biggest impact on how comfortable your Pug is. Your pet should be able to lie down on the bed with its limbs fully extended.
For small dogs, it’s usually okay to use a larger breed bed as long as they can jump into it without any problem, but small beds aren’t suitable for large dogs.
2. Cushioning And Support
A Pug‘s comfort level is generally determined by its size, mobility, and overall health. Yet, the amount of cushioning in their bed also plays a role.
A small puppy won’t require as much cushion as a large, arthritic Pug. Typically, less mobile dogs need thicker, sturdier foam to support their bodies comfortably.
3. Insulation Level
Depending on your climate and your dog’s breed, the insulation level of your pet’s bed can be crucial. It shouldn’t make your Pug feel too hot or too cold.
If your Pug likes to tear apart stuffed toys, a fluffy fleece bed won’t last very long, so you should spend your money on something sturdier.
FAQs
What Kind of Bed is Best for Pugs?
A memory foam orthopedic bed is best for most Pugs. It conforms to your dog’s shape while supporting their aching joints. You should look for a waterproof orthopedic bed or waterproof cover for your elderly dog if they are prone to bladder leakage due to aging.
Do Pugs Prefer Bigger Beds?
The size of a dog’s bed is naturally dictated by their size. The space should allow your canine companion to stretch out and sleep comfortably. The bed can even be placed inside your dog’s crate if needed. Most dogs don’t need beds bigger than their size, but they may appreciate the extra resting space.
Do Pugs Prefer Round Or Square Beds?
A longer, rectangular bed will be more comfortable for Pugs that stretch out when they sleep, but a round, soft bed may be more comfortable for dogs that curl up when sleeping.
Wrap Up
In conclusion, the Casper Dog Bed and Majestic Pet Suede Bagel Dog Bed are the best dog beds for Pugs because they’re the most versatile. Yet, you should also consider the buying guide mentioned above to get the perfect product for your Pug.
Hopefully, you can now decide on a bed for your furry friend. This guide is based on deep research and experience, so hopefully, it will help you make a decision for your Pug. After all, your pup can never have too many cozy sleeping spaces.

Dogs might not be able to see every color, but they can see black-and-white patterns with ease. So, a Dalmatian named Jack Sparrow is quick to spot other animals that have the same spotted pattern as him. He’s drawn to animals that look like him, and he seems to think they’re his family members. Yet, those animals aren’t always other dogs.
Jack Sparrow has declared himself part of a horse family, and the horses are white with black spots just like him. He started as the third wheel of a horse duo, but now he has befriended many horses at his family’s horse academy.
Jack Sparrow is part of the Human & Horse Academy in the Netherlands. They focus on training horses, and many of the horses at the academy have a similar pattern to the Dalmatian.
The pup quickly bonded with Nevada, a 9-year-old Appaloosa stallion, and Napoleon, a 5-year-old Shetland pony. Both horses have white hair with black spots just like Jack Sparrow. So, he instantly felt drawn to them.
“When Jack Sparrow saw Napoleon for the first time as a puppy, he started to jump towards him, because he thought Napoleon was his family, and since then he always wanted to be around him,” Greetje Hakvoort, the founder of the academy, said. “Nevada and Jack are both calm, they like to be around each other, and love to do tricks for me together, while Napoleon is really funny and definitely lives up to his name, having a strong temperament and acting like a little king”
When the horses are doing tricks or riding with humans, Jack Sparrow often tags along. He doesn’t want to be left out during family adventures!
There are several horses with similar patterns to Jack Sparrow, but he has always had the best connection with Nevada and Napoleon. He loves playing with all the horses and other dogs on-site, but these horses are the ones he hangs out with the most.
“They are real friends, and love to play and run together, but sometimes Napoleon likes to chase Jack. Their connection is easy to see, and Jack always wants to be with them in every picture and video,” Hakvoort said.
Even though another Dalmatian is living with them now, Jack still loves his horse friends more than anything. They’re an unlikely trio that warms the hearts of everyone who sees them. Plus, the photos of the three spotted animals next to each other are always beautiful!
It was on a rainy afternoon that Mayane Rodrigues happened to be glancing out of her window, at the exact right moment, to spot something that truly touched her heart. Luckily, she thought to grab her phone, and immediately started recording.
Thousands of people across the internet are glad she did, as the video went viral. It was such a heartwarming moment to witness.
A young girl was on her way home from school, when she suddenly stopped in her tracks on the soggy sidewalk. Without hesitating, she sat her umbrella down on the ground, and took off her coat. It was then that Mayanenoticed that there was a tiny puppy, sitting on the ground, at the little girl’s feet. Seconds later, the young girl crouched down, cradled the drenched doggie in her arms, and continued her wet walk home.
“It all happened so quickly. It was very emotional. I sent the video to a friend who shared it to a neighborhood group, and then I found out who the angel was,” said Mayane Rodrigues, the videographer.
It turns out that the sweet savior’s name is Cibely and she’s 12-years-old. Of course she couldn’t leave the precious pooch there on the soaking-wet sidewalk all by herself. Not only was it raining, and the puppy was positively drenched, but there were so many cars driving by. What if she had wandered out into the street?
Plus, it was obvious to Cibely that the pup had already sustained a small injury.
“I was startled when she arrived with the puppy because she was very sweaty and wet from the rain. There was blood on her shirt. I thought she had been hurt, but she told me she found the puppy injured,” recalled Rejane Stiegelmair, Cibely’s mother.
Fortunately the pup’s wounds were only minor and could easily be healed at home. While they didn’t know exactly how or why this sweet girl was wandering the street all alone, they did know one thing for sure. It was obvious that she had found her forever home.
Cibely decided to name her Pretinha, and she planned to shower her new furry best friend with lots of love.
“Cibely has a very good heart. She feels very sorry for stray dogs. If she could bring them all home, she would. As parents, we are proud of Cibely and always have been. But now we’re even more so,” said her mom.
It may seem like such a simple gesture, but scooping up that tiny puppy surely saved her life that day. The family was unable to find an original owner, so the puppy is there to stay.
You can view the very touching video of Pretinha’s rescue, below.
A tiny dog named Lady Bug may be the new oldest living dog in the world. Despite being a rescue, she has some records from her past life. Her human, Mary Jo Hughes, says the dog recently turned 23 or 24 years old.
Lady Bug got a special birthday celebration with a birthday hat and a cake bearing her photo. Now that she has reached such an impressive age, her vets are looking into her files to see if they can prove that she’s the oldest dog in the world. This information could cause her to take over the current Guinness World Record holder’s spot.
The Guinness World Record for the oldest living dog has changed several times in the past year. First, a 21-year-old Chihuahua named TobyKeith took the record. Then, after seeing TobyKeith’s story, a family realized that their Toy Fox Terrier named Pebbles was older at 22 years old. So, Pebbles held the record until she passed away a few months later.
Now, a 22-year-old dog name Gino currently holds the title, but Hughes believes Lady Bug is older. According to the Guinness World Records, Gino’s birthday was September 2000. However, Lady Bug’s birthday is January 2000, making her older. Yet, there is different information at different vets, so Hughes needs to find the correct documentation before seeking a world record.
However, publicity isn’t the main thing on Hughes’ mind right now. She’s just happy that Lady Bug has lived this long, and she hopes to get as many years as possible with her, regardless of if it’s a record or not. So, she gave Lady Bug an exciting birthday party at the vet clinic with all the pup’s canine friends around.
“It’s a good thing to come into this afternoon. We just love celebrating with her and we’re so glad that she’s still here with us at 23,” said Nicole Blithe, one of the vets.
Even if Lady Bug doesn’t earn the world record title, she definitely deserves it. This little dog has been through a lot in her life. Hughes adopted the pup over a decade ago after she was abandoned at a dog grooming clinic. At the time, Lady Bug was in rough shape.
“Found mammary cancer, nine teeth needed to be removed, and bladder stones, so Lady Bug has really survived the odds,” Hughes said.
Despite all those health concerns, Lady Bug has lived an exciting life since then. Her family jokingly calls her a “dumpster dog” because no matter how often they groom her, her fur always looks scraggly like she came out of a dumpster. But her humans love her quirky appearance.
Now, Lady Bug’s vets are double-checking her records to confirm her birth date. If all goes well, Hughes will likely go for the oldest living dog award. But even if that doesn’t happen, Lady Bug is still an incredible dog who has lived a life of love and luxury since her rescue.
A woman, who works for the Regional Animal Protection Society, was driving along a stretch of blueberry fields. Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a black blob. She was unsure whether it was a garbage bag or an animal so she stopped to investigate.
When she approached she saw a dog that was too weak to move. The Pit Bull just lay there, unresponsive to the woman’s voice. Once the woman got closer, the dog tried to get away, unsure of the woman’s intentions. The Pittie stood up and slowly ran away and that’s when her injury was obvious. Her leg appeared broken and the dog could only hobble across the field.
The dog eventually grew tired and the woman, who made a lead out of her fanny pack strap, was able to place it around the poor pup. The dog was finally safe. The woman loaded her into a van and brought her to the clinic. There, the pup received immediate medical care and earned her new name, Blueberry.
