    Press Release

    updated: Mar 27, 2018

A 25-year-old woman was found dead at a lodging in Hwasun, South Korea; a victim of a coercive conversion program. CheonJi-News reported the confirmed investigation from the Hwasung police stating the autopsy showing the possibility of suffocation and a high possibility of cardiopulmonary arrest due to oxygen deprivation. After this incident, protesting to bring awareness of Human rights violation and discrimination of religious freedom took place and petitioning for the protection of religious freedom protected by the Constitution of South Korea, Article 20 started.

Sunday, January 28, Cheonji-News reported 140,000 people attending a protest in Seoul speaking against Coercive Conversion Education. The purpose of the demonstrations is to bring awareness of the situation and to petition for a legal framework criminalizing religion-based violence. According to the Korean Civil Society NGO, Human Rights Association for Forced Conversion (HAC), Coercive Conversion Education was performed on more than 1,000 individuals, by a group of Korean pastors. Organizations such as the Association of Victims of Coercive Conversion Programs (AVCCP) have reached out to international human rights groups to spread awareness. Through the petition, all branches of the HAC within many countries have gone out nationwide spreading awareness to citizens, organizations, and media as well as to the United Nations.

After the January 28 event, a Ban on the coercive conversion education has become a viral sensation, continuing to spread across the world and Human rights organizations across the nation are coming together with other organizations and groups from multiple countries, such as, the Philippines, Germany, Japan, Australia, Uganda, Kenya, Netherlands, France, Malaysia, China, and United States. Washington DC, New York City, and California all led a demonstration and the newly establish HAC of San Francisco and San Jose took part in this growing movement by practicing their rights of Freedom of Speech bringing awareness of the Forced Conversion of Religion and Human rights Violation at the San Francisco, Golden Gate Bridge. Since the effect of the discrimination and the practice of the Coercive Conversion is becoming more revealed, how can we allow this to continue and to be ignored? That is why the solidarity displayed through these events will be heard all over the world.

Delivery of community-based AquaTower systems and hygiene education programs in schools will provide children in Asia and Puerto Rico hope for a healthy future

    Press Release

    updated: Mar 19, 2018

Planet Water Foundation, a leading non-profit organization that addresses global water poverty by delivering clean water access and hygiene education programs, will deploy 24 community-based AquaTowers on March 22 — World Water Day. Communities in four Asian countries and the U.S. territorial island of Puerto Rico will receive clean water access during Project 24, with support from an alliance of leading global companies.

Water poverty is a situation where a lack of access to safe and reliable water keeps a large portion of the population in a continual cycle of illness, illiteracy and poverty. Causes of water poverty include social and economic disparities, the growing need for water caused by rapid urbanization and industrialization, water scarcity and lack of government focus and investment. Planet Water’s programs are in alignment with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Project 24 is strengthened by new and long-term strategic partners that form our World Water Day alliance. Xylem, Watts Water Technologies, Starbucks Indonesia, Coca-Cola and Medical Solutions formed the early base of collaborators on Project 24. Now, the vision of an alliance is coming to a reality with expanded support from VF Corporation in Cambodia, Symantec and Valmont Industries Inc. in India, Metito supporting us in Indonesia and with BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) taking action in Puerto Rico along with Project HOPE.

Mark Steele, Founder and CEO, Planet Water Foundation

Now in its fourth year, Project 24 is recognized as an important event platform that raises awareness of the global water crisis by mobilizing leading companies and citizens to deliver clean, safe water and hygiene education programs in 24 communities. This year, the 24-hour event takes place in communities within Cambodia, India, Indonesia, the Philippines and Puerto Rico.

“Project 24 is strengthened by new and long-term strategic partners that form our World Water Day alliance,” said Mark Steele, founder and CEO of Planet Water Foundation. “Xylem, Watts Water Technologies, Starbucks Indonesia, Coca-Cola and Medical Solutions formed the early base of collaborators on Project 24. This year, with expanded program support from VF Corporation in Cambodia, Symantec and Valmont Industries Inc. in India, Metito supporting us in Indonesia and with BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) taking action in Puerto Rico along with Project HOPE, our vision for a Project 24 alliance is coming to reality.” In addition to the impact that each project will have on the recipient community, several of the projects will also engage employees from the partnering companies as volunteers.

Xylem Inc. continues as the lead partner on the initiative with support for one community in each of the five countries, while Watts Water Technologies Inc. renews their commitment with sponsoring two community projects. Following on its November 2017 emergency relief air freight shipments of AquaTowers to San Juan, Puerto Rico, DHL is again providing express shipping support for AquaTower installations in Puerto Rico. Raybiztech and Kentico continue to provide website and communications support.

Clean water access needs of children are supported by AquaTowers located on primary school grounds, where Planet Water’s Water-Health and Hygiene Education programs are implemented by school educators in the community’s language. Planet Water also provides training for local communities to maintain the systems and includes five years of post-project sustainability support, water quality monitoring and ongoing hygiene education program support for every beneficiary community.

    About Planet Water Foundation

Planet Water Foundation is a non-profit organization focused on bringing clean water to the world’s most impoverished communities through the installation of community-based water filtration systems (AquaTowers) and the deployment of hygiene education programs. International Protests Call on South Korean Government to Protect Human Rights

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: Mar 6, 2018

Despite the introduction of a new workweek bill aimed at improving quality of life, religious activists are calling for the South Korean government to first protect its citizens’ fundamental human rights.

According to the Human Rights Association for Victims of Coercive Conversion Programs (HAC), more than 1,000 South Korean citizens have undergone Coercive Conversion Programs, a controversial practice gaining traction in the country that attempts to change an individual’s belief through psychological intimidation, verbal and physical abuse.

On March 4th, over 100,000 demonstrators rallied in front of the Christian Broadcasting System (CBS) and Christian Council of Korea (CCK) offices in South Korea to condemn the silence of both the government and Christian community in the country. The rally was echoed in the cities of Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Washington D.C., and countries including Guatemala, El Salvador, Argentina, Mexico, Philippines, Zimbabwe, Australia, France, Germany, and Indonesia, hosting respective protests.

Demonstrators are calling on the government to enact stricter laws to ban the programs. “The problem is that conversion program leaders call the practice ‘counseling,’ masking their true intent for financial profit and allowing them to systematically violate human rights beneath the detection of the law,” said Ms. Ji Hye Choi, HAC Co-President.

Program leaders will use fear to compel family members to “protect” their families from minority religions. Family members are coached to enroll their children, husbands, and wives in the program using any means necessary, even force. Cases have involved drugging victims with sleeping pills, taping up victims’ mouths, and binding handcuffs on the victims’ hands and feet to transport them to program locations. Once in a remote location, program leaders will attack the victims’ beliefs until they “convert” him or her back to the Christian faith.

“The consequences are destructive: mental trauma, fear, strained family relationships, divorce, job loss, school dropout and even death,” said Choi.

In January, Ji-In Gu, a 25-year-old South Korean woman, died of suffocation while undergoing the conversion program. Her parents, who collaborated with program leaders, are under investigation for her death.

This was not Gu’s first time in the program. In 2016, she was enrolled and subsequently kidnapped by her family to be “counseled” for 44 days. Before her death this year, Gu pleaded to the presidential office of South Korea on its petition website, calling for legal protection from religious discrimination. No official response from the government has been issued.

Furthermore, the online petition for the ban on coercive conversion program received 140,000 supporters, but it disappeared in the government website without an explanation.

“Coercive Conversion Programs and the organizations responsible must be shut down and held accountably,” said Steven Acosta, an American human rights activist, “these protests are blowing the winds of justice.”

Spectrum Institute Says the Enforcement of the ADA by U.S. Dept. of Justice Will Require State Courts to Provide True Access to Justice

    Press Release

    updated: Mar 1, 2018

“Pursuit of Justice” is a film (36 minutes) by Greg Byers which tracks the advocacy of civil rights attorney Thomas F. Coleman, clinical psychologist Nora J. Baladerian, and a growing network of activists as they travel the country promoting reforms in adult guardianship proceedings involving seniors and adults with various disabilities. The documentary is sponsored by Spectrum Institute.

Like the recent Oscar-nominated film “Edith+Eddie”, “Pursuit of Justice” shows how guardianships can be manipulated to abuse the rights of vulnerable adults. While “Edith+Eddie” involves an interracial couple in their nineties, “Pursuit of Justice” focuses on adults of various ages who have different types of disabilities.

In addition to giving examples of injustices perpetrated on adults all along the age spectrum, ‘Pursuit of Justice’ offers hope that sustained and creative advocacy will eventually cause systemic reforms to the judicial systems in all 50 states.

    Thomas F. Coleman, Spectrum Institute

Stephen and Greg are autistic men in their twenties. Mickey, in his thirties, had an intellectual disability. Kay, in her forties, has Down syndrome. Michael, an articulate young adult in his late teens, has cerebral palsy. David, a former NPR news editor was 59 when the onset of an illness devastated his mobility and impaired his ability to communicate.

There are currently more than 1.5 million adults in the United States who are in court-ordered guardianships or conservatorships. Tens of thousands of new cases are filed each year. In these proceedings, judges take away the rights of adults to make basic life decisions – where to live or work, control over finances, medical choices, whether to marry or have sex, who to socialize with, etc.

Each state uses its own rules in guardianship cases – rules which often deny meaningful access to justice to the adults whose fundamental rights are placed at risk in these proceedings.

“Pursuit of Justice” offers a path for significant reform by promoting federal oversight of these state-operated judicial proceedings. Without voluntary changes by the states, it will require effective enforcement of the Americans with Disabilities Act by the U.S. Dept. of Justice to transform the status quo of unjust assembly-line practices into ADA-compliant proceedings that provide true access to justice.

“Pursuit of Justice” was released on March 1, 2018 – just days before the film “Edith+Eddie” was considered for an Oscar at the Academy Awards. “Edith+Eddie” tells the story of an elderly couple who fell in love in their final years – only to be torn apart through an abusive guardianship proceeding initiated by an intruding relative.

“Edith+Eddie” touches the hearts of viewers, leaving them wondering how such an injustice could occur. Although this masterfully produced and artfully directed film forcefully introduces viewers to a specific instance of oppression, the film’s audiences are left unaware that similar injustices are occurring every day in America and are ruining the lives of scores of adults of all ages, incomes, and political affiliations.

In addition to giving examples of injustices perpetrated on adults all along the age spectrum, “Pursuit of Justice” offers hope that sustained and creative advocacy will eventually cause systemic reforms to the judicial systems in all 50 states.

The combined impact of the films “Edith+Eddie” and “Pursuit of Justice” could make 2018 a watershed year for guardianship reform. These documentaries have just the right ingredients to become the impetus for significant and lasting political and legal reforms.

Greg Kraut Westport RTM Letter Says: No Rail Increases and No Service Reduction – Calls for Immediate Legislation to Prevent This

The following is a Westport, Connecticut Representative Town Meeting letter addressing the CT General Assembly Transportation Committee presented by Greg Kraut.

Dear Connecticut General Assembly Transportation Committee,

I call for all rail increases to be immediately halted by the legislature. The rail fares have gone up 23 percent and now the Governor wants to raise them another 21 percent. At the same time, commuters will get reduced service. This only happens when we have a monopoly and the decision making is controlled by one person, the Governor. We live in a democracy, not a dictatorship. Even the Commissioner of the Department of Transportation James Redeker at the Connecticut Department of Transportation public forum on February 28th, at the University of Connecticut-Stamford publicly stated, “This is not my plan, so don’t blame me”. This is unacceptable and will just be another factor to cause people and business to leave our state. I have had hundreds of constituents email and call me expressing their concern regarding this matter. The fare is already high, and this may be the tipping point for riders. Without a long-term vision or strategy, this seems misguided and an anti-growth policy which is the opposite strategy that we need now. It is now abundantly clear that we need to have all rail increases approved by the legislature.

  • AWH and DACA Time Team Up to Empower Dreamers With New Social Enterprise

AWH and DACA Time Team Up to Empower Dreamers With New Social Enterprise

    [ad_1]

AWH, a digital product consulting, user experience, and software development firm, today announced a client partnership with DACA Time, a Columbus social enterprise offering a secure online platform to ease the DACA application process for Dreamers.

According to Chris Slee, founder and Chief Product Officer at AWH, “We are pleased to work with DACA Time on their important social, and meaningful, project.” Slee continued, “Using technology to help others is a core value for AWH and this project highlights just one way we can pursue that value.”

At AWH, Be Great isn’t just a motto; it is important to us that we create products that positively impact people and the community – a mission much like that of the DACA Time team.

    Ryan Frederick, Principal, AWH

In 2012, the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program was formed through an executive order by President Obama. This immigration policy allowed undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as minors to be protected from immediate deportation and to receive work authorization. DACA recipients, known as Dreamers, could request “consideration of deferred action” for a period of two years, which was subject to renewal.

However, for many Dreamers, like DACA Time co-founder, Nathali Bertran, the process is complicated and expensive, requiring applicants to complete complex forms by hand. Determined to eliminate this barrier, Bertran, along with fellow DACA Time co-founder, Brook Kohn, brought their frustration with the DACA application process to GiveBackHack Columbus, a 54-hour hack-a-thon that brings community members together to create and launch sustainable solutions for social impact.

Kohn and Bertran met with other participants and formed a team to transform their idea into a sustainable social enterprise. They were joined, among others, by Derek DeHart, a product manager at Cover-My-Meds, developer Nicholas Tietz, and designer Christopher Barr. Over the course of the weekend, the team was mentored by top social entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, and venture capitalists, and developed a working prototype. It was there that Ryan Frederick, AWH principal and GiveBackHack Columbus judge, met the DACA Time team. “They were in the early stages of formulating their purpose and solution. As a mentor at the event, I remember how passionate and committed the team was to helping Dreamers,” Frederick stated. DACA Time went on to win crowd favorite, as well as a prize package consisting of initial funding and in-kind services to continue product validation.

The team went on to participate in the SEA Change social enterprise accelerator and was awarded the top prize at the SEA Change pitch event, providing them with additional funding to support the development of the DACA Time product. Shortly after the pitch event, however, the Trump administration announced that it would end DACA and asked Congress to form alternative legislation. Unsure of where to go next, the DACA Time team connected with the Dreamer community to understand how they can best serve them during this time of uncertainty. According to Kohn, “We are advocates for change that will empower Dreamers. If DACA expires, an average of 915 Dreamers will lose protection from deportation every day.” He continued, “There is a huge public outcry for legislation that provides a permanent solution. Whether it’s DACA or a new immigration policy, we will be here for Dreamers looking to gain renewal status.”

With further insight into the needs of the Dreamer community – and a growing waiting list for the product – DACA Time began the search for a technology partner before ultimately selecting AWH to extend and evolve the functionality of the current web application. For both parties, the partnership felt like a natural fit. According to Derek DeHart, DACA Time co-founder and COO, “We have great respect for the work AWH has done in the community and are excited to partner with another Columbus company as we work together to make a nationwide impact.” Frederick echoed DeHart saying, “At AWH, Be Great isn’t just a motto; it is important to us that we create products that positively impact people and the community – a mission much like that of the DACA Time team.”

In addition to developing the DACA Time web application, AWH will build a new component to the existing application known as The Evidence Timeline. This feature will allow Dreamers to easily and securely upload documentation, such as school transcripts or bills, that proves they were in the United States during the time frame required for DACA eligibility. Once the application is completed and payment is processed, users can print out and submit their application and download all information for their records.

The DACA Time project is scheduled to complete in spring 2018. To learn more, please visit https://dacatime.com/.

  • Live Fire, Car Accidents, and a Search for Lost Hikers on Tap for Skyfire Consulting’s Second Drone Conference

Live Fire, Car Accidents, and a Search for Lost Hikers on Tap for Skyfire Consulting’s Second Drone Conference

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: Feb 19, 2018

The second annual Skyfire Conference for public safety drone operators will be kicking off in Burnet, Texas on February 28, 2018.

The conference, focused on training firefighters, law enforcement officers and other first responders to use drone technology, is turning up the heat for its second year, doing a live-fire burn to demonstrate best practices for fire response.

Small drones have become a critical tool for first responders. Their safe and professional operation can help save lives and protect property. Training and collaboration is the key and I look forward to attending the Skyfire training conference both to speak and to learn from colleagues.

Tim Herlocker, Senior Adviser for Hoverfly Technologies

“We are lucky enough to be hosting the conference at Reveille Peak Ranch this year,” said Matt Sloane, CEO of Skyfire Consulting. “This 1300-acre property allows us to do things we can’t do in an urban or suburban setting – like burning a structure down.”

In addition to the live-burn, responders will train on simulated accident scenes, using drones to map out the area for evidentiary purposes and conduct search and rescue scenarios to find lost hikers.

“These tools can be used in so many different ways,” said Sloane. “This is a chance for the people using the technology to practice all of it in one place.

Many new technologies will be on display, including some from Verizon, who will be on-site to debut the newest addition to its response fleet called Response Innovation.

“This technology enables an agency to expand its response fleet with highly specialized capabilities – off-road vehicles that can deliver emergency communications, autonomous vehicles that deliver medical supplies, and a 4D visualization software that provides a common operating picture between private sector and government agencies,” said Vol Montgomery, Reveille Peak’s owner, who will be hosting the Verizon team.

The conference will also feature classroom sessions, including a presentation from Tim Herlocker, former director of the emergency operations center for FDNY, and the man responsible for the department’s drone program.

“Small drones have become a critical tool for first responders,” said Herlocker. “Their safe and professional operation can help save lives and protect property. Training and collaboration is the key and I look forward to attending the Skyfire training conference both to speak and to learn from colleagues.”

Herlocker, now a senior adviser for Hoverfly Technologies, will also sit on a panel with Rob Topping, Hoverfly’s CEO, and Mr. Sloane to discuss how tethered drones are being used successfully in places like New York City for emergency response.

Additional speakers include Coitt Kessler, program manager for the Austin Fire Department’s Robotic Emergency Deployment (RED) Team, who will discuss drone use during Hurricane Harvey; Gene Robinson and John Buell from DronePilot, who will share best practices from their decades of search and rescue experience; and Jon Wickersham, the emergency response program manager for Colonial Pipeline, talking about how drones are used to help industry and first responders deal with pipeline emergencies.

Rounding out the presenters is Trooper Michael Darrow from Michigan State Police’s aviation wing, who will share his vast experience with large-scale accident scene mapping using UAVs; along with several other responders who use this technology regularly sharing their success stories.

Members of public safety agencies, educational institutions, search and rescue groups and commercial drone operators are invited to register for the conference by going to SkyfireConference.com

Skyfire Consulting, a division of Atlanta Drone Group, Inc., offers drone equipment, public safety-focused training, FAA consulting, grant assistance and service/repairs to help the country’s first responders develop and maintain in-house drone programs for their departments.

Atlanta Drone Group offers industry-leading drone services, including film and television aerial production, survey-grade mapping and emergency response aerial services.

Drone Pilot Inc. was founded in 2014 to assist Public Safety agencies with standing up unmanned aerial programs, conducting UA Public Safety Operations with our active and retired public safety/military flight teams. The DPI Eyes Overhead© UA Public Safety Training and Certification Program was built from experience. We have accurate information for public safety agencies looking for help with policies, laws, regulations, FAA/COA authority, deployment, and counter drone programs.

South Korea: The Olympic Games Amid Large-Scale Human Rights Protests

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: Feb 19, 2018

The 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, is one reason why this country is making headlines. Known for its economic growth in the years following the Korean War, South Korea has since become a country producing cultural phenomena including K-Pop, dramas and social reform. While foreigners spectate the games, citizens hit the streets to protest recent human rights violations. According to a Cheon-ji News article released on 29 January, protests started about a month ago with over 140,000 participants from all across South Korea calling for justice for the hundreds of victims of Coercive Conversion Education.

On 30 December, 25-year-old woman Ms. Ji-in Goo was found dead at a lodging in Hwasun. The Hwasun Police Department confirmed an investigation is underway. The woman’s parents are being questioned about their involvement in the confinement and death of their daughter. During a call with Cheon-ji Newspaper, the police stated the autopsy showed they “cannot exclude the possibility of suffocation and a high possibility of cardiopulmonary arrest due to oxygen deprivation.” Koreans are now doing what they do best: protesting.

The South Korean people historically have held large-scale demonstrations demanding change. During The Great Workers’ Struggle in 1987, 1.2 million laborers fought for democratization and unionization.

From October to December 2016, hundreds of thousands of people gathered for candlelight vigils weekly to demand the impeachment of President Park Geun-hye.

In the last month, another wave of mass protests emerged. The people are petitioning for the protection of religious freedom protected by the Constitution of South Korea, Article 20.

Sunday, 28 January, Cheonji-News reported 120,000 people protested in Seoul to speak against Coercive Conversion Education. The purpose of the demonstrations is to petition for legal framework criminalizing religion-based violence.

According to reports from Human Rights Association for Forced Conversion (HRAFC), a Korean civil society NGO, Coercive Conversion Education was performed on more than 1,000 people by a small group of Korean pastors. Organizations such as the Association of Victims of Coercive Conversion Programs (AVCCP) have reached out to international human rights groups to spread awareness.

1 February, 2018, 1,000 people gathered in Pretoria, South Africa, to honor Ms. Ji-in Goo. More than 100 protesters from human rights organizations rallied yesterday 18 February in New York City.

According to Life in Congress: The Member Perspective, a 2013 study by the Congressional Management Foundation and The Society for Human Resource Management, Members of Congress work 59-70 hours per week, “endure unequaled public scrutiny and criticism, and sacrifice family time to fulfill work responsibilities.”

“As citizens, we can sometimes disagree with the way Congress votes on key policy issues, but there is a lot that goes into being an elected official,” states Eric Storey, Executive Director of the Grassroots Professional Network in Washington, D.C. “I’ve seen the impact a few dedicated legislators can make first-hand, so I proudly join One Click Politics in their effort to show gratitude to legislators,” Storey concluded.

StopforChange Launches in New York City in Reponse to Rash of NYC Driver Suicides

    [ad_1]

A Movement launched to organize NYC drivers for better pay following three cases of NYC drivers in economic distress committing suicide.

    Press Release

    updated: Feb 12, 2018

StopforChange is a movement formed in response to three NYC drivers in economic distress committing suicide. At a Candlelight Vigil at City Hall, where earlier Douglas Schifter committed suicide (with a shotgun, no less), attendees gathered, channeling pain into strength, they vowed to heed Schifter’s call to unite drivers.

The thing holding all drivers back is a feeling of helplessness. As the NYC rideshare market continues to mint millionaires and billionaires, drivers are working longer hours for less pay. Moe Gangat summed up the state of play: “Founders and investors get all the money — and it is a lot of money. Drivers have no say, no seat at the bargaining table. Hell, there is no bargaining table. It is just Uber, Lyft, and Juno forcing contracts down their throats. So drivers get the shaft. It is a broken system and a total nightmare.”

Founders and investors get all the money — and it is a lot of money. Drivers have no say, no seat at the bargaining table. Hell, there is no bargaining table. It is just Uber, Lyft, and Juno forcing contracts down their throats. So drivers get the shaft. It is a broken system and a total nightmare.

    Moe Gangat, Movement Organizer

StopforChange cautions against trying yet another strike. Says Moe Gangat: “Asking drivers to stop driving — and stop earning — even for just a few days is asking too much. We are not doing a strike. At least not a strike in the traditional sense. We have new ideas that will take hard work but we see the road ahead. Every driver we meet gets it. We’re excited to see it come together.”

StopforChange is getting bigger by the second. Movement members are connecting via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and at invite-only weekly meetings (with free parking) near La Guardia Airport. The movement hopes to organize 1,000 drivers in its first month and 25,000 drivers by year’s end.

About StopforChange: StopforChange is organizing NYC drivers to bargain for a fair share of NYC’s billion-dollar rideshare market. 25,000 drivers speaking as one will not be denied. All drivers want is fair pay. Get ready for #StopforChange. Join the movement and support drivers!

VantagePoint Artificial Intelligence Software Predicted Monday’s Dow Drop

    [ad_1]

AI forecasting software anticipated Monday’s market volatility based on patented global intermarket analysis technology

    Press Release

    updated: Feb 6, 2018

The leading provider of intermarket analysis software for the individual trader, Market Technologies, today announced that its VantagePoint artificial intelligence trading software predicted the largest single-day Dow Jones industrial average point drop in history.

On Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, the Dow had the largest point drop in a single day in its history, falling nearly 1,200 points, a record-setting decline for the stock market. VantagePoint software predicted this drop, five days prior on the night of Jan. 30, based on its proprietary intermarket indicators which use a global approach to analyze the behavior of the markets. All indicators pointed to a negative, downward drop.

The stock market today moves too quickly for everyday investors to adjust their portfolios ahead of key moments of volatility like the dip we saw in the Dow on Monday. By leveraging AI forecasting, we’re equipping these investors with the insight they need to stay ahead of the curve, ultimately helping to preserve and grow their hard-earned capital.

    Lane Mendelsohn, Vice President

“The stock market today moves too quickly for everyday investors to adjust their portfolios ahead of key moments of volatility like the dip we saw in the Dow on Monday,” said Lane Mendelsohn, vice president of Market Technologies. “By leveraging AI forecasting, we’re equipping these investors with the insight they need to stay ahead of the curve, ultimately helping to preserve and grow their hard-earned capital.”

Traders using VantagePoint Software were able to leverage this important insight to make more informed investment decisions in advance of Monday’s historically volatile trading day. VantagePoint customers have cited saving significant amounts of money by proactively adjusting their holdings ahead of Monday’s drop. In addition to being able to anticipate and forecast the drop, the patented artificial intelligence indicators also accurately predicted the expected trading range for the following day. For example, on Monday evening, VantagePoint predicted the range for Tuesday, Feb. 6, to have a range of 1,079 points which was within 70 points of the actual range for the day. This is unbelievable accuracy considering the tremendous volatility.

VantagePoint was the first commercially available intermarket analysis software leveraging artificial intelligence to perform technical analysis. Since the first version was released in 1991, Market Technologies continues to invest in its VantagePoint Software, recently announcing Version 10 which significantly increases end-user customization and efficiency options, and provides access to 10 years of historical trading data – giving traders unprecedented predictability potential.

History Made: AlertSense Becomes First Company to Broadcast Emergency Alert System Messages in Spanish

    [ad_1]

The successful test confirms government entities can communicate important emergency information in more than one language

    Press Release

    updated: Feb 6, 2018

AlertSense made Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) history on Dec. 27, 2017, when it delivered the first Emergency Alert System (EAS) test message broadcast in Spanish.

AlertSense is an alert-origination provider that equips states and local government authorities with technology to easily send EAS messages through FEMA’s Integrated Public Alert & Warning System (IPAWS). AlertSense’s statewide test across Nevada in Spanish was a landmark achievement as it marked the first time these mandatory tests were provided in a language other than English.

It’s the first time we’ve been able to offer our Spanish-language broadcasters the opportunity to carry this FCC-required test in their broadcast language. This was not just a test for Nevada broadcasters, it was an important test for the AlertSense technology used by our state and local emergency managers, law enforcement and public safety officials to issue critical information.

Adrienne Abbott, State of Nevada EAS Chair

“We understand the importance of delivering important emergency information to as many people as possible,” said Dave Smith, CEO at AlertSense. “ By being able to provide messages in English and Spanish, we’re doing our best to ensure that more people are informed and know what to do in case of an emergency.”

The successful test means that should an actual emergency occur, information can be shared in both languages, helping to ensure that the message reaches more people in their preferred language. The messages were broadcast on television and radio stations across Nevada and some bordering counties in California.

“It’s the first time we’ve been able to offer our Spanish-language broadcasters the opportunity to carry this FCC-required test in their broadcast language,” said Adrienne Abbott, the state of Nevada’s EAS Chair. “This was not just a test for Nevada broadcasters, it was an important test for the AlertSense technology used by our state and local emergency managers, law enforcement and public safety officials to issue critical information.”

About AlertSense: AlertSense provides a world-class alerting, crisis management and collaboration platform. This platform not only empowers organizations, government and enterprises alike to alert their citizens or employees of a crisis or emergency but also streamlines crisis response by providing efficient communication and collaboration tools. Our clients rely on us to keep millions of employees, partners and citizens informed and protected in more than 100 countries.

Nonprofit Law Training Announces Western Grants Forum 2018: Cost Principles Deep Dive

    Press Release

    updated: Feb 1, 2018

The Western Grants Forum, the region’s annual grants management training conference, will return to Seattle, Washington, this April.  Nationally known grants authority Brian Tipton will lead a special program explaining the unified cost principles for Federal grants and subawards.  This “Cost Principles Deep Dive” edition of the Western Grants Forum will be held at the downtown Sheraton Seattle Hotel on April 5-6, 2018.  Full details and registration information for the event can be found on the Nonprofit Law Training website at http://www.nonprofitlawtraining.com.

This year will mark the third time that the Western Grants Forum has been held in Seattle, but the 2018 conference program is a departure from past events.  Previous editions of the Western Grants Forum have looked broadly at management of Federal grants under the Uniform Grants Guidance, which is more commonly called the “OMB Super Circular.”  The 2018 Western Grants Forum will feature a focus on costs and how grantees can properly charge their costs to Federal grants and subawards under the cost principles that are part of the Uniform Grants Guidance.

The goal of this training is to provide grants professionals the information about direct, indirect, and other costs, they need to successfully navigate Federal requirements.

Brian Tipton, Attorney and Grants Trainer

Brian Tipton, the trainer leading the conference, is a practicing attorney as well as a frequent speaker on grants management topics.  “The Uniform Grants Guidance or Super Circular made many changes to the cost principles,” said Tipton.  He continued, “Unfortunately, many grantees are still discovering these changes to the cost principles, but failure to follow these revised cost principles can have serious consequences.  Grantees can be forced to pay back funds or even lose their grants.”  According to Tipton, “The goal of this training is to provide grants professionals the information about direct, indirect, and other costs, they need to successfully navigate Federal requirements.”

Registration is currently open for the 2018 Western Grants Forum: Cost Principles Deep Dive training conference, which will be held in Seattle on April 5 through 6.  An early bird discount is available until March 5, which is also the hotel reservation cut-off date.  For more information about the Cost Principles Deep Dive conference, including how to register, please visit Nonprofit Law Training at http://www.nonprofitlawtraining.com.

ZUMA Wire Update: Gates Foundation Invests $45 Million for Health Initiatives in Burkina Faso

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    updated: Jan 30, 2018

The latest from ZUMA Press Wire Service says The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has announced plans to invest more than $45 million over three years in support of ongoing efforts in Burkina Faso to improve nutrition and the health of women and children in the West African country.

Announced by Gates Foundation co-chair Melinda Gates during a visit to the country’s capital, Ouagadougou, the investment includes $34 million for government programs aimed at reducing childhood stunting by half by 2020. Another $10 million will support family planning programs aimed at helping women plan and space their pregnancies.

Burkina Faso has made significant progress against poverty, hunger, and poor health in the face of big challenges and is inspiring other countries in the region to do the same. This progress is no coincidence — it takes leadership.

    Melinda Gates, Gates Foundation Founder

In addition, as part of a $15 million regional funding initiative that includes Benin, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, and Togo, the foundation will match every dollar invested by the government of Burkina Faso in 2018 in the purchase of contraceptives. Investments by the foundation also will support higher quality and more timely data collection, enabling partners to measure progress on family planning and nutrition initiatives, design more effective programs, and pinpoint areas of greatest need.

“Burkina Faso has made significant progress against poverty, hunger, and poor health in the face of big challenges and is inspiring other countries in the region to do the same. This progress is no coincidence — it takes leadership,” said Gates. “There is enormous opportunity ahead. If countries like Burkina Faso continue to increase their investments in health and development, then unprecedented progress is possible — and every woman, man, and child in this country will benefit.”
