  • No Man’s Sky Voyagers Update Ushers in a Whole New Dimension to Ship-Building – Xbox Wire

    [ad_1]

    Summary

    • On our 9th anniversary, the 6.0 update for No Man’s Sky, Voyagers, is available today, free to existing Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Game Pass players
    • Players can now build their own large multi-crew starships, and are able to customize them inside and out.
    • Fellow travellers can be invited to journey with you in your new starship. Why not set to autopilot and hang out as you watch the universe whizz by?
    • Ship customisation is just one of a large number of quality of life updates ushered in by Voyagers, our biggest update of the year.

It’s been gratifying to see so many Xbox and Game Pass players return to the No Man’s Sky universe to take command of the all-new planetary settlements after the Beacon update a few months ago. In the background, the tiny team at Hello Games have been hard at work and today we’re pleased to reveal perhaps our biggest update of the year. The Voyagers update launches today and is free to existing players.

Spaceships have always been my favourite thing, the coolest thing. Give me any sci-fi film or novel or game, and I want to talk to you about the spaceships in it! I can draw you a map of the Millennium Falcon, or the Nostromo – those are important characters in those worlds. I know for our team and our players it’s that same feeling. Your ship is maybe the most important character in No Man’s Sky.

What if we could build our own ships? With real interiors, med-bays, sleeping quarters, war rooms? What if we could get out of the cockpit seat mid-flight, wander around, look out the window as the universe flies by? What if we could share our ship with friends, to build a crew and adventure together? That’s a fantasy we’ve had for the longest time. I’m sure players never thought it would happen, but it’s something we’ve been working towards for years.

This has been just a huge undertaking for our small team. Starships move at incredible speed, and to add a player calmly walking around inside a ship that is hurtling through space brings up all sorts of physics and game development problems (suddenly you have to think about relative space!).

We went even further, allowing networked crewmates to walk about inside too, networking with each other, whilst also travelling at vast speed on a networked ship. To take it even further we allow players to edit and decorate those ships around them, whilst pulsing through space or flying over a planet. It’s one of the harder game development problems!

Building your own ship, decorating it with friends, your own space that you share together – there really isn’t anything like it. Those moments where you look out the cockpit as a Space Station spins into view. Opening the airlock to rush out and discover a new planet, our returning home to your new custom ship from a hazardous environment. It feels so different and new.

Voyagers is version 6.0 of No Man’s Sky, which for us represents a big milestone. It’s honestly one of our biggest updates ever, and what I love about it is it opens up a whole new path that we will want to build on and expand in future.

Really though, we see each update as another step on a much longer journey. Sometimes we will put a lot of work into something that the community will perceive as small, but we know is important for the future. Sometimes something that was easier for us is actually really meaningful to the community – those are great too! The most satisfying part is when we’ve put in a lot of hard work for something we know is really meaningful to players, and I think Voyagers is luckily one of those updates – a lot of hard work to create something really meaningful for the future.

The best thing about No Man’s Sky continues to be the community. Something about the game attracts the best, most welcoming players. As long as players keep coming back to enjoy the content we’re making, and as long as the team is enjoying coming up with crazily ambitious stuff like Voyagers, then we are happy!

Behind the scenes, our new game, Light No Fire, is really coming along well. Honestly we always presumed that No Man’s Sky would have sailed off into the sunset long before Light No Fire ever saw the light of day. If anything, from a player and team perspective, No Man’s Sky is more vibrant now than ever, and both projects are benefitting from each other.

The Voyagers update (6.0) is available now, free to existing players. Our journey continues.

No Man’s Sky comes complete with all 29 major updates up to and including Worlds Part I.

Inspired by the adventure and imagination that we love from classic science-fiction, No Man’s Sky presents you with a galaxy to explore, filled with unique planets and lifeforms, and constant danger and action.

In No Man’s Sky, every star is the light of a distant sun, each orbited by planets filled with life, and you can go to any of them you choose. Fly smoothly from deep space to planetary surfaces, with no loading screens, and no limits. In this infinite procedurally generated universe, you’ll discover places and creatures that no other players have seen before – and perhaps never will again.

    Embark on an epic voyage
At the centre of the galaxy lies a irresistible pulse which draws you on a journey towards it to learn the true nature of the cosmos. But, facing hostile creatures and fierce pirates, you’ll know that death comes at a cost, and survival will be down to the choices you make over how you upgrade your ship, your weapon and suit.

    Find your own destiny
Your voyage through No Man’s Sky is up to you. Will you be a fighter, preying on the weak and taking their riches, or taking out pirates for their bounties? Power is yours if you upgrade your ship for speed and weaponry.
Or a trader? Find rich resources on forgotten worlds and exploit them for the highest prices. Invest in more cargo space and you’ll reap huge rewards.
Or perhaps an explorer? Go beyond the known frontier and discover places and things that no one has ever seen before. Upgrade your engines to jump ever farther, and strengthen your suit for survival in toxic environments that would kill the unwary.

    Share your journey
The galaxy is a living, breathing place. Trade convoys travel between stars, factions vie for territory, pirates hunt the unwary, and the police are ever watching. Every other player lives in the same galaxy, and you can choose to share your discoveries with them on a map that spans known space. Perhaps you will see the results of their actions as well as your own…

  • No Man’s Sky Voyagers update: Large, customizable, multi-crew starships arrive today

    [ad_1]

I can’t believe it’s been just over nine years since No Man’s Sky first launched. No Man’s Sky Voyagers releases today, and it’s one of our most ambitious updates.

I’ve always loved Spaceships. Name a sci-fi film, book or game, and I want to talk to you about the spaceships in it. We know No Man’s Sky players feel the same – they spend countless hours scouring the universe for their perfect ship. But what if you could design your own ship? If you could get out of your pilot’s seat mid-flight and walk around? If you could invite your friends on board as crew?

Perhaps the most important character in No Man’s Sky is your spaceship. It’s your safe haven on hazardous planets, your companion exploring the stars. Your ship is your way of experiencing the universe, and when we change that, it really changes how the game feels.

We call them Corvettes, huge ships with hulls, wings, landing gear, cockpits, engine parts, thrusters and more – arranged to your own unique sci-fi design.

These ships have real interiors, med-bays, sleeping quarters, war rooms, radars, teleporters. It comes with you everywhere, which totally changes how you play. Decorating it with your friends gives you a space that you share together. Whether it’s a brightly coloured tiny explorer, or a colossal dark metallic war ship, it allows you to show off your own personality.

Once you’ve built your ship and fine-tuned the outside look and feel, these larger ships can have multiple interlocking rooms across several storeys which demand the same care and attention. Make sure you leave enough room for a few windows. Enjoy those special moments, watching as the universe flies by outside at warp speed.

When you’ve fine-tuned your Corvette just how you want it, these ships are big enough to invite friends aboard to help crew for you as you cruise around the star systems.

Having multiple Corvettes flying over a plant together is incredible, especially when you pop the hatch to your ship and spacewalk or skydive from one ship to the other.

By design, Corvettes are encountered a little way into the game and veteran players will be able to unlock them reasonably swiftly. But we wanted to give all players a taste of what they can expect, so the accompanying “Corvette” expedition is specifically designed to get you to the workshop as quickly as possible and to take you on a journey which unlocks some of the parts you’re going to need to build your first creation.

The team at Hello have been working on Voyagers for a long time. The technical challenges they have had to overcome to make any of this possible have been immense. Almost every part of the game has had to be reworked to accommodate these relative spaces. Having your multiplayer crew walking around, calmly editing your ship, as it travels at warp speeds towards a planet that is being generated as you approach. It’s pretty insane what’s going on behind the scenes to make that work.

Much of the technology we’re introducing with Voyagers is shared with our next game, Light No Fire, which is a truly open world, a shared Earth-sized planet, with real oceans to traverse, needing large boats and crews. We love that we get to share this technology with players early.

What excites me most about the Voyagers update though, is that this opens up a whole new path of gameplay that we can take in so many different directions.

I can’t believe that in the past 12 months we released Worlds Part I, Worlds Part II, and Voyagers – all huge changes to this game we care about so much.

    Our journey continues.

  • Amid Backlash to Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 Locking Clans Behind DLC, Paradox Says It’s ‘Making Adjustments Ahead of Launch’ – IGN

    [ad_1]

The backlash to Paradox’s decision to lock two clans behind DLC for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 appears to have prompted a rethink.

The furore began with the confirmation that Bloodlines 2 would feature four clans: Brujah; Tremere; Banu Haqim; and Ventrue. While this selection provides four different starting options for how you build your protagonist, it’s a more limited offering compared to the cult classic original Bloodlines, which featured seven clans.

Developer The Chinese Room has added a further two clans to Bloodlines 2 (Lasombra and Toreador), but these are currently only available as part of the Shadows and Silk add-on pack, which costs $21.99 as DLC, or included as part of the $89.99 Premium Edition. The standard edition costs $59.99.

This DLC is available from day one, which has created the impression that the “full” roster has been carved up, with only those paying extra getting the complete launch experience. As you’d expect, fans were quick to express their dissatisfaction.

Then, at gamescom 2025, a representative for publisher Paradox told IGN the decision was a “business” informed choice, prompting further outcry. But a post on Discord suggests a significant change may be coming ahead of launch.

As spotted on ResetEra, Paradox community developer DebbieElla addressed the game’s community with the following message:

“We are listening to your feedback about the Lasombra and Toreador clan access, and we’re making adjustments ahead of launch to reflect this.

“We will share more information about what this means as soon as possible.”

What this means is unknown for now, but the hope of course is that Paradox throws in the two clans for launch at no extra cost. Certainly, that would go some way to calming down the fanbase ahead of the game’s release on October 21. But what would that then mean for those who have already paid for the more expensive Premium Edition?

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has suffered a difficult development and a number of high-profile delays, but it is a crucial release for Paradox. The publisher will be keen to give it the best chance possible to succeed, and backtracking on its DLC plans may be the only viable option at this stage. While you wait to find out, check out IGN’s Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 hands-on preview.

  • Black Ops 7 u-turns on Black Ops 6 Carry Forward just days after announcing it because of the massive backlash

    [ad_1]

Activision has made a major announcement regarding a particular feature in this year’s Call of Duty, Black Ops 7. The game, which had its full reveal at gamescom just one week ago, will no longer support Carry Forward.

Carry Forward is a feature that allows players to bring Black Ops 6 weapons, operators, skins and other cosmetics with them to the new game. Unfortunately, that’s made it more difficult for players to be excited about the upcoming game.

While Carry Forward is something that would typically be celebrated for respecting the players’ legacy and time spent, it has gained an especially negative connotation. Over the course of Black Ops 6’s lifespan, Activision continued to deviate from the original art style and look of the game by introducing more cross-over and cartoony skins, which have practically turned it into Fortnite.

Since it was confirmed for Black Ops 7, fan reaction online has been overwhelmingly negative. The decision to drop the feature just a week after it was announced was made in a blog post that specifically points to that fan response. It also acknowledges that the series may have deviated from that cohesive look.

“We know there’s been a lot of conversation recently about the identity of Call of Duty,” the post reads.

“Some of you have said we’ve drifted from what made Call of Duty unique in the first place: immersive, intense, visceral and in many ways grounded. That feedback hits home, and we take it seriously. We hear you.”

I wouldn’t call this the most ‘authentic’ either… | Image credit: Treyarch, Raven, Activision.

What that means in practice is that Black Ops 6 weapons, operators – and crucially, operator skins, will not be available for use in Black Ops 7. This won’t affect Warzone, however, as the battle royale mode will continue to have continuity with previous games. Double XP tokens and GobbleGums are exempt from this, and will be the only items to carry forward to the new game.

The blog post also confirms that Black Ops 7 store bundles will be “crafted to fit the Black Ops identity.”

“We need to deliver a better balance toward the immersive, core Call of Duty experience,” it adds.

Before Black Ops 7’s launch on November 14, we’re getting a new edition of Call of Duty: Next on September 30, where multiplayer will be shown off for the first time. A few days afterwards, the Black Ops 7 beta will kick off.

  • John Wick: Ballerina 4K Steelbook Edition Preorders Restocked For $30 At Walmart

    [ad_1]

The retailer-exclusive Steelbook Editions of Ballerina: From the World of John Wick have been difficult to find in stock at Walmart and Amazon since preorders first opened in early June. But with only two weeks until the John Wick spin-off pirouettes onto 4K Blu-ray, Walmart has restocked its exclusive collectible edition. Walmart’s Ballerina Limited Edition Steelbook is available to preorder for only $30 ahead of its September 9 release.

    Ballerina on 4K Blu-ray:

The Amazon-exclusive Ballerina Steelbook was actually back in stock for a very brief window while we were writing this story, but it sold out again. We’d still recommend checking the store page to see if it returns. Tastes differ, but the design of Walmart’s exclusive looks cooler, in part because it has a picture frame-inspired slipcover.

Ballerina Limited Edition Steelbook | Exclusive to Walmart

You can check out both editions below, and if you want to pair your upcoming steelbook with similarly fancy versions of the mainline films, check out the Walmart-exclusive John Wick Chapters 1-3 Stash Book Collection for $50.

John Wick: Chapters 1-4 Blu-ray Deals

If you want to rewatch the mainline John Wick series ahead of Ballerina’s Blu-ray release, you have several budget-friendly options. Amazon has a limited-time deal on the standard Blu-ray box set compiling the original tetralogy. You can get John Wick: Chapters 1-4 for only $28.49 (was $45). The display box has a window frame where you can showcase one of the four included art cards.

The aforementioned Walmart-exclusive John Wick: Chapters 1-3 – Stash Book Collection is awesome, as it includes a trio of steelbooks housed in a display box inspired by the Stash Book from the series. This is a 4K Blu-ray box set, though it unfortunately only includes the first three chapters of the series. You could pair it with John Wick: Chapter 4 on 4K Blu-ray for $18.

  • METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER Free Download –

    [ad_1]

METAL GEAR SOLID Δ SNAKE EATER Pre-Installed Worldofpcgames

METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER Direct Download:

A remake of the 2004 game METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER, with the same gripping story and engrossing world, now with all new graphics and 3D audio that enhance the jungle atmosphere. Get ready for the ultimate survival stealth action experience. In the middle of the Cold War, Naked Snake, the man who would later be known as Big Boss, infiltrates the Soviet Union to escort a defecting scientist, Sokolov. However, the mission ends in failure when Snake’s mentor—The Boss, a soldier known as the mother of special forces—betrays him, and Sokolov is captured by Colonel Volgin of the GRU. One week later, Snake returns to Soviet territory to rescue Sokolov and eliminate The Boss—a mission that will mark the start of a new legend, a mission that will mark the start of a new legend, against the backdrop of the ever-changing march of history. METAL GEAR SOLID 3 Snake Eater

The story, characters, voice acting, gameplay, and music that made the original a sensation return, remade for modern consoles. This evolutionary leap breathes new life into every cutscene, and rebuilds every corner of the world. With Unreal Engine 5, expansive stages are rendered with cutting-edge technology. Incredible new graphics bring the wild growth of the jungles, forests, and swamps to life in exquisite detail. Characters are rendered in such fine detail that facial wrinkles, pores, and even separate eye and iris movements are visible, allowing for rich and emotive facial animations. The battle damage system has been upgraded, with the wear and tear of Snake’s clothes, as well as bruises and bullet wounds on his body, reflected in real time. Injuries will leave their mark on Snake’s body permanently, telling a story of each player’s unique journey through the game.

    Features and System Requirements:

    • New Style: Over-the-shoulder, modern third-person controls and camera like in later Metal Gear games.
    • Legacy Style: Classic overhead view and controls for players wanting the original experience.
    • Complete with both original and newly created humorous videos unlocked by collecting film canisters throughout the game.

  • Final Fantasy 14 Is Running Out Of Room On PS4 Ahead Of Next Expansion

    [ad_1]

Final Fantasy 14 came out over a decade ago and has been running on PlayStation 4 since soon after it launched. Sony’s last-gen hardware won’t be able to support Square Enix’s MMORPG forever, though, and director Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida recently explained why.

“My basic stance is that I do want to continue supporting hardware which has grown old,” he said in an interview with Feed4Gamers (via TweakTown). “But I do have one concern, and that’s regarding the OS of the PlayStation 4, and this is regarding the hardware regulations which were made by Sony. These regulations are related to the limit of the data, and because there’s that limit of the data, well, we are continually incorporating updates for Final Fantasy 14 and we are now approaching that limit.”

    He continued:

And so for this limit that’s in place, we have been asking Sony Interactive Entertainment from our side to increase that just for Final Fantasy 14, and they have kindly been doing that so far. But they’ve told us now that they are also reaching their limits. So I will repeat myself: I do want to provide support for platforms as long as possible. However, there will eventually come a time when the hardware is at its limits in terms of its technology, and at that point in time we would have to provide an end to the service on that hardware. But I will be sure to provide clear reasoning for that decision when I communicate it to the players.

According to Yoshida, Sony’s already been making exceptions to its standard developer rules in order to accommodate new content for FF14. The game has received several major updates since last year’s Dawntrail expansion, including this month’s patch 7.3, The Promise of Tomorrow. It’s unclear just how much wiggle room is still left for further upgrades and content drops.

When is Final Fantasy 14‘s next expansion coming?

Square Enix has been cagey on the timing of its next expansion, with speculation from some fans that it could arrive as late as spring 2027. Yoshida teased that there will at least be an update on the date for FF14 Fan Fest 2026 on the 10-year anniversary of A Realm Reborn this week.

Other big multiplayer games like PUBG and Genshin Impact are both dropping support for last-gen consoles in the coming months. While Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is still coming to PS4 and Xbox One this fall, other big annual franchises like MLB: The Show and Madden NFL have all ditched the aging hardware. Considering we’re nearly five years into the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S lifecycles, the only surprising thing is that these moves didn’t come sooner.

Originally released on the PS3 in 2013, FF14 left that console behind at the time of the Stormblood expansion in 2017, a departure for which Square Enix provided eight months of notice. My guess is that update 8.0, whenever it arrives, might similarly mark the end of the MMORPG’s journey on PS4. And by that point, PS6 will probably be just around the corner.

  • Save $900 on this RTX 5090 prebuilt PC, with big savings on an RTX 5080 version too

    [ad_1]

Look, I’m in the UK, so I’m not entirely sure what Labor Day is all about. I do know it’s on September 1 (cheers, Google) but the key thing to know is that PC gamers can save a bunch of money through deals like those offered by iBuyPower already.

The manufacturer is offering up to $300 off with a voucher code, has discounts on powerful 50-series PC builds, and you can even get Battlefield 6 with Intel models, too. What’s not to love?

Save on a 5090 rig with this voucher code

Look, we’ll probably never own a 5090 PC, but you can at least save some moolah on one if you’ve got $5k burning a whole in your pocket.

You can save 16% on an iBuyPower build with an Intel Core i9 inside, with a whopping 64GB of RAM and that all-important, all-conquering GPU with 32GB of VRAM. There are a pair of 2TB drives inside, too, and the iBUYPOWER HYTE Y70 Touch Infinite which has a very slick design and a touchscreen, too. All for, uh, just $4,899.99.

To get the full discount, you’ll need to use the discount code ‘EARNEDIT’ at checkout. By buying a model with an Intel processor, you get a free download voucher for Battlefield 6 when it launches in October, too.

That’s in addition to other rigs on offer, including an NVIDIA RTX 5080 rig with 32GB of RAM and a terabyte of storage.

That one is down to $2,699 from $3,349 when using that same ‘EARNEDIT’ discount code. Look, I don’t know what we’ve ‘earned’ exactly, but if it’s netting us cash off of powerful gaming PCs, then we’re happy to have done so.

Whichever model you buy, there’s standard shipping included for free, too, which is nice.

  • Battlefield 6 Looks Great But It Won’t Beat Call Of Duty This Year

    [ad_1]

For the first time since 2021, new installments in the Call of Duty and Battlefield franchises are releasing in the same year, and this has prompted the inevitable comparisons between the two long-running multiplayer first-person shooter franchises to resurface.

Early impressions of Battlefield 6 from its open beta suggest that Electronic Arts and Battlefield Studios have a hit on their hands, but Battlefield 6 is unlikely to dethrone Call of Duty this year, even if the sentiment around Black Ops 7 is not tracking so highly. While EA would like to take some market share from Call of Duty, and it’s possible that happens, Call of Duty’s reign as the No. 1 paid FPS franchise will likely continue.

“While Battlefield 6 has the potential to perform better than any Battlefield game ever has– financially and critically–it almost certainly won’t outsell Call of Duty,” said Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics.

Elliott said Call of Duty has a core audience that buys in every year, and that isn’t expected to change in 2025 “just because Battlefield 6 is rad and tracking incredibly well.”

EA’s Battlefield boss Vince Zampella, a former Call of Duty higher-up, and others like Battlefield GM Byron Beede (also a former CoD boss), have said games like Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 are the inspiration for Battlefield 6. That’s resonating with fans who are looking for a return to form for the series that strayed too far, in their eyes, with Battlefield 2042.

The last entry into the Battlefield series made a number of changes to the franchise’s underlying formula, like abandoning its player class system for selectable characters who each had unique, specific abilities. It also had an infamously rough launch that turned away many longtime fans. In a lot of ways, Battlefield 6 is a return to the old way of doing things, and players are responding well so far.

In short, at this stage, EA and Battlefield Studios appear to be saying and doing all the right things to get Battlefield back on track. The recently concluded Battlefield 6 open beta reportedly had a player base of 20 million people, and apart from some negative feedback around Rush mode and map sizes, the sentiment was largely positive.

But even if Battlefield 6 launches to solid reviews, positive sentiment from fans, and big-time sales numbers, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 may remain on top given the sheer size, scale, and momentum of the Call of Duty brand.

“For many gamers, Call of Duty is an annual ritual,” Elliott explained. “Tens of millions of players, many of them casual gamers, buy the newest CoD every year without hesitation. This ‘autopilot purchasing’ habit is decades deep, and breaking it requires more than one awesome Battlefield release/”

The masses love Call of Duty, even if they complain

Battlefield 6 may appeal to the “hardcore FPS crowd,” but the masses of casual players will show up for Call of Duty year in and year out, Elliot said that’s not expected to change.

“CoD’s muscle memory in the market is so strong that players will buy it even if they complain about it,” he said.

Also helping Call of Duty’s mainline annual releases is the perennial battle royale game Call of Duty: Warzone, which exists in the Call of Duty HQ launcher alongside each year’s new release. Elliott said this is a key point because, even if Warzone engagement is dipping, it still has a gigantic player base that will see Black Ops 7 ads every time they log in.

“Battlefield simply doesn’t have that scale of cross-promotion,” Elliott said.

For what it’s worth, Battlefield Studios is building its own Battlefield battle royale game, but it’s early days and there is no word on how EA plans to support, grow, and promote it over time. To be sure, we don’t even know if it’s a game, a game mode, or something else.

“CoD’s muscle memory in the market is so strong that players will buy it even if they complain about it” — Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics

To put things further into perspective, Elliott cited some data points that speak to the enormity of Call of Duty relative to Battlefield.

“The reality is that CoD’s sales floor is higher than Battlefield’s sales ceiling so far, for the year anyway,” he said. “Even in Battlefield’s highest highs (BF1 in 2016), Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare–a widely disliked entry–still outsold it by millions of copies. That’s brand inertia at work.”

    Game Pass muddies the waters

Kade Barr, an equity research associate for Wedbush Securities, told GameSpot that Black Ops 7 being on Game Pass and Battlefield 6 only being available to purchase complicates any direct sales comparisons between the two. (For what it’s worth, Battlefield 6 will be on a subscription service via EA Play Pro, but it’s a much smaller service than Game Pass.) Barr believes the fact that Black Ops is on Game Pass and Battlefield is not could actually help Battlefield 6 perform better.

“Black Ops 7 is bound to have more unique players within its first year of launch, but sales of each game will likely be close should each launch go smoothly,” Barr said. “There is obvious overlap in the player bases, but Call of Duty’s inclusion in Game Pass could actually result in a net benefit to Battlefield. With a large portion of Call of Duty players not having to pay $70 for the game, it leaves room to purchase other games like Battlefield.”

In total, Barr said Wedbush is modeling Battlefield 6 to become the second- or third-best-selling Battlefield game of all time, trailing Battlefield 1 and Battlefield 3. Barr believes Battlefield Studios has to really “nail it” with the planned battle royale mode, capitalize on the user-generated content that will come from its Portal mode, and deliver post-launch content successfully to make a dent in Call of Duty’s massive share of the premium FPS market.

“All in all, I think Battlefield’s ultimate success hinges on a stable launch,” Barr said. “The hype is there, but any inkling of a buggy launch will turn people away. I do think this game’s launch needs to be exceptionally smooth given a lack of trust following Battlefield 2042. Any sort of large-scale issues will likely result in a meaningful decline in sales.”

    Historical data

In 2021, the last time new Call of Duty and Battlefield games were released in the same year, Call of Duty: Vanguard was the No. 1 best-selling game overall in the US, followed by 2020’s entry, Black Ops Cold War, at No. 2. Battlefield 2042, meanwhile, ranked No. 5 overall in 2021 for US sales, meaning it was outsold not just by its main competitor that year, but also by 2020’s Call of Duty game (along with Madden NFL 22 and Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl). EA stated that Battlefield 2042 missed the mark critically and commercially, while Activision said Vanguard, too, failed to sell up to expectations.

Meanwhile, 2018’s Battlefield V ranked No. 16 in the US, whereas Black Ops 4 that year landed at No. 2. For 2016, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was No. 1 for the year in the US, with Battlefield 1 coming in second. Battlefield 6 has been called a spiritual successor to Battlefield 3 and 4, two fondly remembered games. When those games came out in 2011 and 2013, Call of Duty’s latest releases were No. 1, with Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 ranking No. 4 for each year. A Battlefield game has never ranked higher than No. 2 on the US sales charts for a given year.

Come year’s end, many will be watching with keen eyes how high Battlefield 6 can go on the charts, even if that won’t tell a complete story.

But didn’t someone say Battlefield 6 will “boot stomp” Black Ops 7?

Former Xbox executive Mike Ybarra, who now heads up the sports betting company Prize Picks, published a social media post recently in which he said, “Battlefield will boot stomp CoD this year.” He said sentiment around Call of Duty has been trending down in recent years as Activision leans into the wacky licensed skins and other features fans don’t universally enjoy.

A lot of commentary you may read online about Call of Duty is negative, but that also raises the question of how much stock one should place in online conversations when algorithms today incentivize stirring things up to drive engagement, and, in the case of X, direct payments go to people who post the most extreme takes. Despite the negative rhetoric, the numbers show that Call of Duty is still a juggernaut. And while online comments may not always lead to real changes, sometimes that can happen. After all, Activision just recently announced that it was cancelling the Carry Forward program for Black Ops 7, which means the oft-criticized wacky and outlandish Call of Duty skins from Black Ops 6 may not appear in Black Ops 7. Activision also said it’s listening to fans who want Call of Duty to feel more grounded, and acknowledged their concerns that Call of Duty has “drifted” from its core.

In any event, Elliott had some words for Ybarra: “Chill out, son.”

To be fair, Ybarra did not say Battlefield 6 would outsell Black Ops 7. As a 19-year Microsoft veteran who worked on development and publishing initiatives at Xbox, he is no doubt aware in some capacity of the sales volume of Call of Duty relative to Battlefield. His second point was that Battlefield 6 coming to market with fan-focused design choices could end up helping Activision make a better product with Call of Duty, due in part to increased competition in the marketplace, and that’s something Call of Duty fans would surely like to see.

For Activision’s part, Black Ops 7 associate creative director Miles Leslie was recently asked to comment on Battlefield 6’s successful beta. He said he’s played it and found it to be fun, but he is focused on his own product.

“We’re fans of the FPS genre,” he said. “We’re fans of lots of games. Let’s all have fun.”

This Weeks MTG Crashers and Climbers

Magic: The Gathering prices are shifting again this week, with some surprising winners and losers. On the rise, older cards like Need for Speed and Scrapheap have spiked thanks to new synergies with upcoming characters like Toph from the Avatar set and Ragost, Deft Gastronaut, with both cards now sitting closer to $7–$8 after being near bulk prices.

Other climbers include Ugin’s Nexus (though its rumored combo doesn’t quite work), Terra Eternal, and Repurposing Bay. On the flip side, several once-hot Edge of Eternities cards are cooling off: Breeding Pool (Borderless) has plummeted from over $100 to around $35, while Ouroboroid, Tannuk, Steadfast Second, The Endstone, and Terrasymbiosis are all trending downward as hype dies down. With Spider-Man’s debut set still a few weeks away, players are clearly reshuffling their priorities—and their wallets.

You’re buying it from Anycubic’s official store on AliExpress. It ships free locally from the United States and arrives within 1 to 2 weeks. The exact same combo sells for $360 on Amazon. This is a phenomenal deal for a 3D printer, let alone one that also includes the multi-printing module that normally sells for $200+ by itself. The price makes this an ideal introduction to the world of 3D printing for the fledgling first-timer testing out a new hobby, but there are enough features here to satisfy the seasoned professonal looking for a second 3D printer.

    Pokémon Card ETB Deals

TCGPlayer is showing up Amazon’s predatory pricing practices with Pokémon TCG, with up to 10% on some of the latest sets, including Black Bolt, White Flare, Destined Rivals and more. Still above MSRP, but its by far the best deal players and collectors are going to get on sealed ETB’s right now.

    Pokémon TCG Booster Bundle Deals

Booster Bundles are even cheaper, and again from the most popular Scarlet and Violet sets. Prismatic Evolutions is 21% cheaper, Black Bolt is 22% down, White Flare is 18% and Destined Rivals is a moddest 8% down. Don’t pay more when you don’t have too.

Pokémon TCG Big Box Collection Deals

Binder boxes, special collections and more are the big box Pokémon TCG products that make great gifts that usually come with a few exclusive pormo cards and other cool swag that can only be found in these boxes. Infact, if you’re just after the bits and bats inside, you can usually find seperate listings on TCGPlayer for just that to save a few dollars.

Pokémon TCG Tins and Booster Packs

With up to 44% off booster tins, blisters and single packs, it’s an absolute no-brainer hopping over to TCGPlayer over Amazon. It’s actually amazing that some of these products are nearly double the price of the secondary market, but I’m here to save you some money after all!

Most Expensive Pokémon Cards from Japan’s Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia

Japan’s Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia Pokémon TCG sets have quickly gained popularity with collectors and competitive players alike, thanks to their focus on iconic Mega Evolutions, powerful Supporter cards, and premium artwork. High-value chase cards like Mega Gardevoir ex 092/063 and Mega Lucario ex 092/063 are priced at $664 and $444 respectively, while many others remain above the $100 mark.

These sets combine strong gameplay mechanics such as Psychic energy acceleration and hard-hitting Fighting-type attacks with visually stunning Special and Ultra Rare treatments that elevate their appeal. Booster boxes and Premium Trainer Boxes are available on TCGPlayer and include guaranteed rare pulls due to Japanese packaging rules. While the most expensive cards draw attention, more affordable options like Lillie’s Determination 086/063, Mega Kangaskhan ex SAR, and Mega Absol ex SAR offer great value with solid gameplay and collector-friendly art, making these sets a standout release for fans looking for both playability and display-worthy cards.

    This Weeks Crashers and Climbers

Stellar Crown’s Illustration Rares like Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and Terapagos ex are dropping fast, with nostalgia-driven hype fading as supply grows and competitive players move on. Squirtle is down about 32% since February and Bulbasaur is down 31%, both sliding because their gameplay value is minimal. Earthen Vessel and the Special Illustration Rare Fezandipiti ex are also slipping, while Terapagos ex has been hit hardest, losing over half its value.

On the other hand, Shrouded Fable cards with practical utility are steadily climbing. Hyper Rare Basic Darkness Energy has gained around 17% as Dark-focused decks get more popular, and Dusclops is creeping up thanks to its creative ability. Even the Double Rare Fezandipiti ex is bucking the trend, nearly doubling in value as competitive players embrace it. Smaller gains from Powerglass and Okidogi ex reinforce the idea that functional, playable cards are holding their ground while flashy artwork is losing steam.

  • Make a BIG Splash in Season 18: Stadium Quickplay!

    [ad_1]

Season 18 is coming and it’s sure to make a splash! We’re talking the biggest Stadium evolution yet, a brand-new aquatic Support Hero, a full PvP refresh with Perks update, two unique Mythic skins, and more. Then Summer Games bring the heat with third-person POV Lucio Ball, and we’ve got even more in store, so let’s ride the wave!

    Stadium Report

Stadium is continuing to level up with Hero additions, all-new ways and places to play, fresh features, and a beefed-up Item pool!

Shake up your team comps as Winston, Brigitte, Pharah, and (later this season) Tracer join the Stadium Hero rotation. Quick Play Queue speeds up the action with a faster, lighter version of Stadium, bringing shorter matches, a rapid-fire economy, and Backfill & Cross Play support. Draft Mode works like your pre-game huddle, letting you counter-pick and outthink the other team before the first shots are fired.

Then push parallel payloads through checkpoints and fight to the finish line in the new Payload Race mode. But there will be no checkpoint wins here; you’ve got to take it all the way. Add in the Powder Keg Mine, Thames District, and Oasis Gardens new maps, an expanded Item pool (3 new items, 10 major reworks, 9 balance updates), plus Elite Rank rewards Epic Mei, Reinhardt, Ana & Legendary All-Star D.Va… and Stadium’s feeling more like the big leagues than ever!

    New Support Hero: Wuyang

Wuyang is ready to rewrite the Support playbook! The aquatic prodigy from Wuxing University’s Water College bends the rules of healing with a kit built for sharp aim, quick thinking, and fluid movement.

His Xuanwu Staff launches guided mid-air water orbs that can be detonated on demand, delivering burst damage or disrupting critical moments. Guardian Wave knocks enemies back while boosting ally healing, and Restorative Stream adapts its healing over time to match the flow of battle. For rapid repositioning, Rushing Torrent lets Wuyang surf water currents to dodge danger or rejoin the team in an instant. His Tidal Blast Ultimate grants overhealth to a targeted ally—or himself—before erupting into a powerful knockback wave that can turn the tide in clutch moments.

With Perks like Overflow and Balance for steady regen, or Ebb and Flow and Falling Rain for high-impact plays, Wuyang is bringing a bold, adaptive style to the Support roster.

    OW2_S18_Wuyang_Abililty_Kit_1920x1080_SN01.png

    PvP Refresh & Perks Update

Season 18 will kick off with a full-system refresh that resets the Competitive landscape and supercharges strategy with over 50 new Hero-specific Perks, and numerous other changes. Every Hero gets at least one fresh Perk to play with, while updated and rebalanced options for Heroes like Lúcio, Winston, and Pharah open the door to smarter team comps and more creative builds.

And a full rank reset means everyone starts with fresh placement matches for a fair shot at their climb, backed by a soft MMR reset that tightens matchmaking from the very first game. Adjusted rank thresholds (especially in higher tiers) better reflect true skill, and tighter MMR ranges make it easier to squad up with friends in ranked. Built for experimentation, shifting strategies, and unexpected plays, this Competitive refresh sets the stage for a whole new meta.

    Hero Skill Rating

Hero Skill Rating means to measure your performance on individual Heroes in Competitive, separate from your overall rank. Each Hero earns their own Skill Rating from 0 to 5000, complete with visual tiers and feedback after every match. You’ll unlock a Hero’s SR after playing five placement matches with them, and you’ll see your progress represented by both a numeric score and a tier bracket from Bronze to Champion. Even before your rating is official, Predicted SR gives you a preview while you place. After each Competitive match, your Top three most-used Heroes will show SR gains or losses, so you can track improvement in real time. Integrated directly into your Competitive Overview and Career Profile, Hero SR makes it easy to compare, refine, and grow. This system is for personal mastery, helping you sharpen your best picks or discover new favorites with data that keeps you climbing.

    Hero Progression 2.0

Hero Progression 2.0 rebuilds the leveling system from the ground up with faster progress, a cleaner UI, and a permanent prestige feature that shows off your dedication. Each Hero now levels up individually, letting you track your growth and see exactly where you’ve invested your time. The new Ascended system awards animated portrait borders at milestone levels 20, 40, and 60, and these borders automatically display in Hero Select for everyone to see. Once you earn an Ascended border, it’s yours forever. Early levels come quickly, then settle into a steady pace of about 100 minutes per level after level 21. Along the way, you can earn Loot Boxes at key milestones, starting with a base Loot Box at level 5, Epic Loot Boxes at levels 25, 35, and 45, and Legendary Loot Boxes at levels 30, 40, and 50. While Ascended isn’t tied to Hero-specific cosmetics, it delivers lasting visual prestige across your roster, making every match part of a visible legacy.

Level up. Stand out. Become Ascended.

    Advanced Info Panel

A new Advanced Info Panel will be available to help turn guesswork into game sense! You’ll see a clear, detailed breakdown of exactly what you (and your Hero) can do. From precise damage numbers and healing output to cooldowns and other critical stats, every value will be laid out for you to make smarter plays and master your kits. Whether you’re looking to fine tune your aim in Competitive or curious about the real impact of your abilities, the Advanced Info Panel will give you the numbers you need to level up your strats and play with purpose.

That’s not all… we’ve got a Hero Stats webpage in the works! You’ll be able to track even more data, with all your Hero Win and Pick Rates right at your fingertips, empowering you to level smarter and flex harder in the new Rating and Progression systems.

Whew! One of the biggest seasons ever required one of the biggest blogs ever—but congratulations, you got the whole scoop. Season 18 goes live August 26, so prepare to dive into Stadium, ride the wave with Wuyang, score big in Summer Games, and experiment with everything else. Make a splash, Heroes, a BIG one!

  • Skate 4 Is Finally Launching On Consoles & PC In September

    [ad_1]

Electronic Arts and developers Full Circle announced that after years of waiting and fans begging for a new game, the upcoming Skate reboot will launch in September in early access on consoles and PC.

On August 26, EA posted a short trailer for the next Skate game, which is confusingly just titled Skate, and finally confirmed an early access release date. Previously, the publisher had teased that it would be out sometime this year and later promised it would be out this summer. But now we know that the new, online-only Skate reboot is launching on September 16. Mark your calendars and set aside some time to kickflip. Or crash. You’ll probably be crashing a lot.  Here’s the new trailer:

This new Skate reboot will be an online-only multiplayer-focused open-world adventure featuring over 100 songs and up to 150 players skating together in a single session. The game is set in San Vansterdam, a city built from the ground up by EA and Open Circle to be the dream playground for all skateboarders.

It’s been a long wait for this new Skate game. EA first revealed it was working on a new Skate in 2020 after years of fans begging them to make it. Since then, the game has been leaked a few times, and EA has put out early, unfinished footage of Skate as part of a plan to be more transparent about the open-world skateboarding game’s development. Skate has also been playtested by fans in the lead-up to its launch. The new Skate arrives on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on September 16.

  • Glorious is bringing an actually customisable gaming keyboard to the ‘boring entry-level market’

    [ad_1]

Betwixt more standard meetings, last week I sat on the floor of the halls of Gamescom Cologne with a keyboard on my lap that is apparently a “new solution for the boring entry-level keyboard market.” That’s according to Glorious, and the keyboard in question is the GMBK 75%.

I’m happy to say, even just a glance was enough to pique my interest, at least once I saw the price was right, which it certainly seems to be. We’re talking $59.99 / € 59.99. And yes, that’s for a membrane keyboard, but the idea here is you’re getting an entry-level membrane board that’s actually customisable and looks and feels great.

The headline feature is its MX-compatible design. It has little stems under each key that allow you to use your usual MX-style keycaps. Of course, given it’s a membrane keyboard, the X-shaped stem is for this reason alone and won’t be used for actual switches.
