Police say Morgan Geyser left her residence without authorization and has not been seen since Saturday night.
WASHINGTON — A Wisconsin woman convicted in the 2014 “Slender Man” stabbing is missing after cutting off her monitoring bracelet and leaving a group home, authorities said.
Madison Police Department said 22-year-old Morgan Geyser was last seen around 8 p.m. Saturday in the area of Kroncke Drive with an adult acquaintance. She removed her Department of Corrections monitoring device before leaving and has not been located since. Police released a recent security image and urged anyone who sees her to call 911.
Geyser had been living in a supervised group home since her release earlier this year from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute, where she spent seven years. Her release followed testimony from mental health experts who said she had made significant progress, CBS News reported.
Geyser and her friend, Anissa Weier, were 12 years old when they lured classmate Payton Leutner into a Waukesha park during a sleepover in 2014. Prosecutors said Geyser stabbed Leutner 19 times while Weier encouraged her. The girls told investigators they believed they needed to kill Leutner to appease the fictional horror character Slender Man.
Leutner survived her injuries, and Geyser pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide in 2017. She was ordered committed to a psychiatric hospital for up to 40 years in 2018 after arguing she was not responsible due to mental illness.
Weier, who pleaded guilty to a lesser charge, was committed for 25 years but granted release in 2021 under GPS monitoring and supervision.
