WASHINGTON — A D.C. woman is facing charges after police say she stabbed her 70-year-old father to death.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, officers were flagged down by a woman around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of North Capitol and P Streets in Northwest D.C. on Saturday. The woman told police a man in a home on 6th Street had been stabbed.

When officers visited the home, they found 70-year-old James Gaylor suffering from stab wounds. He was taken to an area hospital for help and died a day later.

Police have since arrested James Gaylor’s daughter in connection to his death. Brittany Gaylor, 32, was originally charged with assault with intent to kill but she is now facing second-degree murder charges.

There is no word on any possible motive or what happened in the moments leading up to the stabbing.

Anyone with information may contact detectives at (202) 727-9099 or text the department’s tip line at 50411.
