Windsor police officer kills dog during trespassing call

(KRON) — A dog was shot and killed Monday by a Windsor Police Department officer who was investigating a report of trespassing, according to authorities. The department said the dog had “aggressively approached” and attacked the officer.

Police had responded at 2:15 p.m. to a property in the 200 block of American Way, near Tractor Supply Co. and across Highway 101 from Walmart, after a business owner reported trespassing. According to Windsor PD, an investigating officer sustained minor injuries from the dog attack before shooting the dog. No other people were injured.

Authorities made two arrests in connection to the trespassing investigation. Miel Singletary Schultz, 53, of Santa Rosa, was arrested for trespassing, possession of a controlled substance and possession of controlled substance paraphernalia. Eric Chad McCarthy, 49, of Santa Rosa, was arrested for trespassing and two counts of probation violation.

The department did not release any further details in the shooting.
