Will Ferrell’s Watch Is ‘Barbie’ Pink, Too

Will Ferrell is in the Barbie spirit. Much like the movie’s co-star Ryan Gosling, who wore a Malibu Dream Watch in pink to the film’s Canadian press day, Ferrell’s watch could also be the subject of a verse in an Aqua song (no, not “Doctor Jones”). Ferrell’s pink watch goes slightly off the beaten path: he went with an Oris ProPilot X 400 featuring what the brand calls a “salmon” dial.

Oris

Ferrell got the watch barely over a month ago, seemingly in preparation for this very moment. It’s funny to guess who is and isn’t in the Barbie group chat based on which actors seemed to adhere to the red-carpet dress code. Ferrell seems like he’s very much in. According to Lorel Monroy—a salesperson at Feldmar Watch Company who works with Ferrell and sold him this watch—Ferrell  didn’t mention Barbie specifically. “I just love the color of the watch,” he said, according to Monroy. Although he did come in to personally pick up the watch wearing pink shorts that matched the latest addition to his collection.

While at Feldmar, he also picked up another piece in his wheelhouse: the Girard-Perregaux Laureato with a forest-green dial. “He saw the green and told me right away, ‘Oh, Elf green.’”

Oris is a perfect philosophical match for Ferrell. The brand is driven by its desire to “make people smile,” VJ Geronimo, Oris’s CEO for the Americas, said upon the launch of Oris’s Kermit watch in March. That line of thinking could pretty much sum up Ferrell’s career to this point. “Funny guy, lots of one liners,” Monroy said.

Cillian Murphy’s Omega Seamaster Railmaster

The press tours and marketing from both Barbie and Oppenheimer have been…magnificent. Not just the big stuff—the rentable AirBnb!—but the smaller details, too, like Michael Cera wearing an identical outfit to Ryan Gosling’s at the premiere because his character would copy Ken’s clothes. Murphy, too, seems to be making a subtle nod to his character, scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer, with his watch. The Railmaster was originally made for scientists when it debuted in 1957. The watch is fitted with special pieces that make it antimagnetic, allowing it to keep accurate time while working in labs.

Chris Paul and Brad Pitt’s Vacheron 222s

The hype surrounding the 222, Vacheron’s biggest release of 2022, doesn’t look like it’s headed anywhere but up. Two of the watch’s most ardent supporters both broke it out again this week. Paul wore the watch courtside at NBA Summer League, while Pitt strapped his 222 on at Formula 1’s British Grand Prix. The 222 is a sport watch with an integrated bracelet (meaning the bracelet is hooked directly into the case) for the thinking man. Other icons of this genre, like the Royal Oak and Patek Philippe Nautilus, are red-carpet staples. The 222 also debuted during the ‘70s and became an auction darling after it went out of production just eight years later. Now, the watch has never been bigger thanks to stars like Pitt and Paul and a deep appreciation in the watch world.

Carmelo Anthony’s Audemars Piguet Royal Oak

When you’re dealing with a canvas as small as a watch face, the tiniest details make a world of difference. Take Melo’s Royal Oak, which looks completely different from virtually any other AP simply because of the pattern on the dial. The large raised squares, known as the Grande Tapisserie, give the watch a distinguished and distinctive look. Anthony is certainly no stranger to a distinctive accessory.

Simu Liu’s Audemars Piguet Royal Oak

Ever since hitting the red carpet for Shang-Chi in 2021, Liu has brought his horological A-game. The Marvel star rotates through heavy hitters like the IWC Portugieser and weirder models like Omega’s Ploprof. For the Barbie premiere, Liu showed up with another elite watch. The AP Royal Oak is a classic in nearly every iteration, but the reverse-panda (black with white subdials) is a cool nod to vintage racing watches.
