WAKE FOREST, N.C. (WTVD) — The wife of a Wake Forest High School football coach was seriously injured in a shooting Friday night.
Officers responded just after 6 p.m. to the 600 block of East Nelson Avenue. Erika Ruffin Lucas, 56, who suffered a gunshot wound, was taken to a hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.
The incident appeared to be isolated, with no additional threat to the public.

Erika is the wife of Reggie Lucas, the Wake Forest High School football coach, authorities confirmed. Investigators said she was not the intended target and believe she was hit by gunfire meant for someone else along East Nelson.
A 16-year-old was arrested in connection with the incident, the Wake Forest Police Department said. The individual was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflicting serious injury.
Their identity and where they attend school will not be released by police.
The shooting remains under investigation, and more information will be released as it becomes available.
