Stable weather patterns continue to produce widespread dense fog across the Central Valley and the East Bay.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Weather conditions forecast for the Sacramento region Tuesday through Wednesday are calling for areas of widespread dense fog.
Visibility will be limited, occasionally decreasing to less than a quarter of a mile.
Ground travel will be impacted, especially during the morning and overnight hours. Air travel may also be impacted when trying to land and delays may follow.
When
Widespread dense fog will persist through Wednesday due to wet soils and light winds.
Tule Fog forms when we have two things present:
1) Wet soils 2) stable, windless weather. November has been quite wet, and Sacramento is running more than 2 inches above normal so far this month.
On the heels of that stretch of wet weather, we’ve settled into a dry and stable pattern. Without wind to stir the atmosphere, fog forms as soil moisture evaporates and condenses low in the atmosphere.
Once we get into the long weekend, winds are expected to increase a bit, bringing an end to Tule Fog.
