PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — An entertainment mogul was among the thousands of people who participated in this year’s Portland Marathon.

Issa Rae, a multihyphenate best known for creating and starring in HBO’s “Insecure,” posted about her experience at the annual event on Sunday.

“Went to Portland to run a marathon,” Rae wrote on Instagram. “To my girl who asked for a picture right after, I’m so sorry. I was very in pain and very ugly. Thank you for understanding.”

She went on to thank a friend for inspiring her to join the race, as well as her husband. According to the post, she ran the 26.2-mile route in just under four hours and 17 minutes — or about 9 minutes and 48 seconds per mile.

“I can’t believe I did that. I don’t know why I did that. Why did I do that? I don’t have to do that,” she remarked in a video as she wore her race medal.

The post garnered support from celebrities like Mindy Kaling, Keke Palmer and Tracee Ellis Ross.

In addition to creating and starring in five seasons of the Emmy-nominated “Insecure” from 2016 to 2021, Rae has been featured in series and films like “Barbie” and “Black Mirror.” Her production company, Hoorae Media, has produced HBO shows “Sweet Life: Los Angeles” and “Rap Sh!t,” in addition to “One of Them Days” starring Palmer and SZA.

Rae has also written two books and launched her own prosecco brand.

More than 11,800 runners joined the 53rd annual Portland Marathon, according to organizers. The event offered a marathon, half-marathon, 10K and “kids run” route, which took participants through several neighborhoods and landmarks, including Tom McCall Waterfront Park, the Pearl District and Reed College.

Organizers reported that Portland resident Jared Bassett became the winner of both the men’s marathon overall champion when he ran the 26.2 miles in under two hours and 29 minutes.

Fellow Portlander Luciana Lenth won the women’s marathon at just over two hours and 53 minutes, about 30 minutes shorter than her previous time. In the gender expansive division, Eliezer Vasquez was crowned the champion with a time of three hours and six minutes.
