SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – While bright sunny days may seem like the perfect opportunity for outdoor activities, the heat can pose serious health risks.
The intense heat and humidity we are currently experiencing can lead to heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Heat exhaustion may present itself with symptoms like heavy sweating, muscle cramps, and dizziness. Heat stroke, on the other hand, can cause confusion, nausea, high body temperature, and rapid pulse.
If these symptoms are present, CDC says it’s important to take a break from the heat and hydrate. “When you’re sweating, you know, that’s just like getting rid of the water. So, it’s better to replenish yourself with you know water,” said Robert Morales of Springfield.
“Just got another one, but I just went through a large ice water. But yeah, it just drinking water, but it’s so hot,” added Sasha Mendez of Springfield.
Springfield, Amherst, and Easthampton have opened cooling centers for those who need relief from the heat.
