(KRON) — Friday’s shooting at the Westfield Valley Fair in San Jose was likely gang-related, the San Jose Police Department said Saturday.

Three people were injured in the Black Friday shooting, including a man, woman and 16-year-old girl. The man was shot following an argument with the suspect, who remains at large. The woman and teenager were hit by stray bullets, police said. All three victims were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“Initial information revealed the incident to be gang-motivated,” SJPD said in a press release. “However, the circumstances remain under investigation.”

In response to the shooting, SJPD is increasing patrols at the mall this weekend, San Jose Police Chief Paul Joseph said in a statement.

“A shooting in a crowded mall on a busy shopping day is deeply concerning,” Joseph said. “To reassure our community, we are increasing patrols throughout the weekend while our detectives continue their focused work to identify and locate the individual responsible. I have full confidence the suspect will be brought to justice swiftly.”

The mall initially closed during the shooting but will reopen at noon Saturday. The mall will have a lost-and-found where people can pick up the belongings they left behind during the emergency.

In a statement, San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan vowed to find the shooter and bring them to justice.

“Thanks to our SJPD officers for responding quickly and to the Valley Fair employees and neighbors who opened their shops, their garages and their homes to protect those fleeing,” Mahan said. “Since last night, our law enforcement teams have been working nonstop not just to find and hold the suspect accountable, but to make sure our public spaces are secure. We are upping patrols at Valley Fair and will continue to update the community as the investigation continues. Please know — the person who caused this pain and fear will not get away with it, we will find them and they will face their crimes.”

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact SJPD.
