Weekend Forecast: Heat is here for Sacramento region
[ad_1]
As September is winding down, the heat keeps coming.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The summer weather of 2024 has been by many measurements the hottest on record for places like Sacramento. When fall clicked in on September 22, the hope was that the weather would move to the next season.
This has not been the case and northern parts of California has been baking with many days well above average with highs in the 90s and triple digits.
Earlier this week Sacramento hit 101 degrees making it the 45th day so far this year with a high 100 degrees or higher. This broke the old record of 44 days set just two years ago. The average for Sacramento in any given year is 24.
Saturday and Sunday will again see temperatures in the 90s. Saturday will be the hotter of the two days with highs in the mid to upper 90s across the valley. This is about 10 degrees warmer than normal for the time of year.
The Delta Breeze is expected to return this evening which will help with the cooldown. Areas that get the breeze should be in the 70s by 8 or 9 this evening.
Sunday will be closer to seasonal but still above average by about 5 degrees.
The thing about heat in early Fall is that it’s different than heat in summer. Morning temps will be in the upper 50s. The afternoon sun angle is lower so the rays are less intense. The length of day is shorter as well, so you have less hours of daylight and essentially less time to heat up or stay hot.
Next week will see even more heat with the peak being Tuesday and Wednesday with highs near 100 degrees and close to records.
The 80s will come back but not likely until the end of next week.
