Wedding Gifts of King Constantine II of Greece and Princess Anne-Marie of Denmark

The historic Greek Emerald Parure and Greek Ruby Parure were among the Wedding Gifts received by King Constantine II of Greece and Princess Anne-Marie of Denmark which went on display in Athens on this day in 1964, 60 years ago, a few days before their Wedding.

The most important Wedding Gifts given to Queen Anne Marie came from her mother-in-law, Queen Frederica of Greece, highlighted by the historic Greek Emerald Parure and heirloom from Queen Olga of Greece.

Queen Frederica also presented Princess Anne-Marie with the Greek Ruby Parure, which also originated from Queen Olga but had been a more recent addition to the main Greek Royal Family.

From her parents, King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid of Denmark, Princess Anne-Marie received a striking Diamond Cross, which remains a treasured heirloom.

Princess Anne-Marie had just received the newly created Antique Corsage Tiara as an 18th-Birthday Gift from her mother, Queen Ingrid, a few days earlier, which was created from an Antique Corsage belonging to her great-grandmother, Princess Louise of Prussia, Grand Duchess of Baden.

Princess Anne-Marie also received half of Queen Alexandrine’s Diamond Sautoir, which she could wear with the Pendants of the Greek Emerald Parure and also her Aquamarine Pendant.

As an Engagement gift, Princess Anne-Marie seems to have received a Van Cleef & Arpels Ruby Necklace.

A striking Van Cleef & Arpels Suite was also likely among Queen Anne Marie’s Wedding Gifts. Given its similarity to the Ruby Parure given to her sister-in-law, Queen Sofia of Spain, by Greek shipping tycoon Stavros Niarchos, it is safe to imagine that this Suite was another gift from Niarchos or another Greek Tycoon.

Queen Anne Marie also soon wore her versatile Diamond Necklace, which may well be another Wedding Gift.

Another Jewel of unknown provenance is Queen Anne Marie’s Sapphire Necklace, which could also be another Wedding Gift.
