Developer Robert Leach says the hotel is on track to open along Highway 160 in fall 2028.
HOOD, Calif. — Construction on a new waterfront hotel in the small Sacramento County community of Hood, southwest of Elk Grove, could begin by the end of next summer.
West River Hotels LLC plans to develop a 60-room boutique hotel along the Sacramento River, offering guests scenic views in the historic Delta town of fewer than 300 residents. The project is currently undergoing environmental and entitlement review.
Developer Robert Leach, CEO of West River Hotels LLC, said the hotel is on track to open along Highway 160 in fall 2028.
“There are really very few little hotels left down in the Delta for people to stay at, but there’s a growing wine industry and vineyards,” Leach told ABC10. “People go wine tasting, but they all have to drive home at the end of the day.”
The $28 million project is expected to create between 100 and 150 construction jobs and up to 50 permanent positions once the hotel opens. Leach said there’s an emphasis on hiring locally.
Plans for the property include a restaurant, lounge, marina, fitness center, yoga lawn, mineral baths, indoor pickleball courts, ballroom and day spa. Each of the 60 rooms will feature a river view.
Developers are still deciding on a name for the property, with options including the Waterfront Hotel or the River Hotel and Spa. Leach said they’re in discussions with Marriott and other hospitality brands to determine how best to position the hotel.
The site sits next to the Willow Ballroom and Event Center, a popular venue for weddings and banquets, as well as near Delta wine-tasting destinations.
Leach said the hotel aims to attract wedding guests on weekends and corporate or wellness travelers during the week.
“We’re focused on wellness — having things like a yoga lawn or mineral baths, a great fitness center,” Leach said. “Those are the kinds of things that attract people who just want to get away and sneak out to the river.”
