A North Carolina Department of Transportation employee was arrested after North Carolina State University police said he broke into a home and set up cameras to spy on residents inside.

According to court documents, 54-year-old Brian Keith Mayhew broke into a home Monday morning on Lionel Lane and installed a camera inside to secretly watch a couple who lived at the home.

WRAL News asked where Mayhew was accused of putting the camera, but police said their investigation is ongoing.

Police identified Mayhew as a suspect, but he was not at the home when they arrived. Police later found Mayhew and arrested him, charging him with felony breaking and entering and felony secret peeping.

WRAL spoke to Mayhew at his Raleigh home, he declined to comment.

According to a spokesperson with NCDOT, Mayhew is an engineering director with DOT and has been with the department for 30 years. Over the years, WRAL interviewed Mayhew several times as part of his role with NCDOT, the latest being in January of 2024

NCDOT told WRAL News that Mayhew is on investigatory leave. WRAL News spoke with one of the victims, who said she and her family would not comment on the investigation.

Mayhew is the latest of at least four Wake County men to be arrested on felony peeping charges.
