The family of a missing Prince George’s County woman will hold a vigil Sunday in Hyattsville.
HYATTSVILLE, Md. — The family of a missing 19-year-old Prince George’s County woman will hold a vigil for her safe return on Sunday in Hyattsville.
DaCara Thompson has been missing since Aug. 22, when she told her father, Daniel, with whom she lives, “I’m going out. I’ll be back.”
According to her father, around 11:50 p.m., he texted her that he was going to bed and that he loved her. She responded that she was out, but that she’d return soon.
That was the last he heard from her.
DaCara’s mother, Carmen, told WUSA9 that their family shares locations through the Find My Phone App. She says DaCara’s last location was near the intersection of Jasmine Terrace and Riggs Road in Hyattsville. Daniel found the vehicle there, but no sign of DaCara.
He found her purse, along with her license, debit cards, bank cards, and house keys, in the vehicle.
The family is maintaining hope.
“I’m trying to stay optimistic at this point. I’m holding on to hope. I’m fighting. I hope she’s fighting, you know, any chance she can get to try to get away if she can, you know. I hope she can, at some point, get away and just go ask somebody for help, ask someone to call 911, just something, but I don’t know. I’m hanging on to hope that we will get her back,” said Carmen Thompson.
The vigil for DaCara’s return will be held Sunday at 5:30 p.m. at Jasmine Terrace and Riggs Road.
“This vigil will be a powerful space for our community to gather, share words of comfort, offer moments of silence, and unite in collective prayer. Together, we will stand in solidarity and strength for DaCara’s safe return,” a press release for the event said.
They’re asking attendees to wear pink.
