ATLANTA — A Delta flight had to return to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Sunday night shortly shortly after taking off due to a “mechanical issue,” the airline said. Video obtained by CNN from passengers showed sparks flying out of the Boeing aircraft.

Delta Air Lines fight 682 was leaving Atlanta headed to Sacramento when the issue occurred. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane safely returned just before 10 p.m. after the crew reported an engine issue.

About 150 passengers were on board.

“The aircraft landed safely and taxied to the gate under its own power. The flight operated on a delay Monday morning, and we apologize to our customers for the delay in their travels,” a Delta spokesperson said.

First responders met the aircraft as a precaution.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane safely returned just before 10 p.m. The FAA will investigate.
