Video shows driver sideswiping houses, falling from car window in Everett

A driver in Everett tumbled from their car window Sunday morning after crashing in a residential neighborhood, an eyebrow-raising wreck caught on home surveillance footage.

The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. on Glendale Street, Everett Police Chief Paul Strong confirmed. Home surveillance video obtained by WCVB shows the car hitting a speed bump, spinning out of control, jumping the curb, and striking multiple homes before coming to rest in a front yard. 

The driver appears to fall headfirst from an open window after the car comes to a stop, but Strong told Boston.com there were no injuries reported in the crash. He said speed was a factor, and the driver was cited for operating to endanger.

Eliza Brennan-Pratt, a neighbor who lives across the street from the crash site, said the noise woke her early Sunday. 

“I immediately thought it was a bad car accident, so I quickly looked out the window to see the white car right in the middle of our neighbor’s lawn,” Brennan-Pratt told Boston.com in an email interview. “I looked outside almost immediately, but the driver was already out of the vehicle. The front part of the car was detached and there was debris strewn across the street.”

She said she was “shocked” to witness “the aftermath of what can only be described as utterly reckless driving.”

The steps to two of the homes on the street were deemed structurally unsound, and a third home damaged in the crash was also ruled unsafe, WCVB reported.

“You can see an indent in the house’s white trim from where the car hit the side of the house,” Brennan-Pratt explained.

She said she was surprised no one was injured in the crash and feels thankful none of her neighbors were out walking at the time. 

“This crash definitely questioned my feeling of safety. You don’t expect that you could be part of a car crash when you are sleeping inside your own home,” Brennan-Pratt said. “I hope the driver is prosecuted for the damages to our neighborhood and for endangering everyone’s safety.”
