(FOX40.COM) — An explosive situation came close to developing in Tuolumne County on Tuesday morning when a box of unstable dynamite was discovered at a home in Strawberry, according to the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office.

At 7:30 a.m., reports came in of dynamite and other explosives being found by family members of the property owner in the area of Highway 108 and Strawberry Road.

Responding deputies determined the dynamite was unstable and the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad was called to the property.

Tuolumne County Sheriff’s said they planned to have the Calaveras Bomb Squad handle the safe detonation of the explosives along with assistance from CAL FIRE.

“Old dynamite can be very unstable, we ask the public not to handle, cover, move or transport unwanted explosives,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a social media post. “We are thankful this dynamite did not explode unintentionally and that no one was injured.”
