Tropical Storm Gordon could weaken as system continues westward track

The seventh named storm of the 2024 hurricane season, Tropical Storm Gordon, has formed in the Atlantic Ocean. Currently 1195 miles west-northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, Gordon has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and a minimum central pressure of 1004 mb, prompting the upgrade from Tropical Depression Seven on Friday morning.Gordon is continuing to move west at about 9 mph, but the storm is expected to move more toward the west over the weekend and into Monday, the National Hurricane Center said.Gordon slightly strengthened on Friday, but the NHC predicts a weakening trend will begin on Saturday.
