A garbage truck that fled after hitting two people — and killing one — in Northwest DC was located in Maryland, police say.
WASHINGTON — DC Police say a garbage truck they were looking for after it fled the scene of a crash that killed one person and seriously injured another in Northwest has been located in Maryland.
Friday, police maintained that the person who was killed was a woman. On Saturday they offered a correction, saying the deceased was a man.
Neither of the people struck by the trash truck has been identified.
They declined to specify where the vehicle was found, or if anyone has been taken into custody.
Police responded to the scene on Georgia Avenue near the intersection with Upshur Street shortly after 2 p.m.
When they arrived, they discovered that one of the victims was unconscious and not breathing. The second was unconscious, but she was breathing.
DC Ward 4 Councilmember Janeese Lewis George said that police reported “one fatality” after the incident.
