Bakersfield police said officers received an anonymous tip of a woman being trafficked across California, Oregon and Washington.

BPD was able to identify the possible suspect as 32-year-old, California State University, Bakersfield assistant basketball coach Kevin Mays.

A Washington state police report revealed that the victim was driving a car registered to the suspect, and BPD tracked her down to Sacramento.

In partnership with BPD, the Sacramento Police Department’s Human Trafficking Units helped make contact with the victim, who identified Mays as her trafficker, BPD said.

Mays was arrested on Thursday, BPD said.

According to the Kern County District Attorney’s Office, criminal charges, including human trafficking, pimping and pandering, weapons violations and drug offenses, were filed against Mays.

His arraignment is scheduled for Monday at 3 p.m.

FOX40 has reached out to the Sacramento Police Department for a statement regarding their assistance, but they declined to comment.
