It has been 15 years since Tom Hiddleston first appeared as the God of Mischief in Thor, and the actor is now preparing for a major return to the big screen. Hiddleston is officially set to reprise his role as Loki in the upcoming Marvel movie Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled for release next December.
After the successful two-season run of the Loki series on Disney+, the actor recently shared his thoughts on the character’s evolution and what fans can expect from the next Avengers instalment. In a recent conversation with GQ, Hiddleston explained that his connection to Loki is deeply rooted in his personal love for stories about redemption and second chances.
Reflecting on his childhood, he recalled being moved by films like The Shawshank Redemption and stage plays that focused on rebuilding one’s life. He shared, “I still find it incredibly emotional. It’s so moving, the idea that you get another chance. I suppose I want that for everyone.”
Loki’s journey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been unique. While he started as a villain, his solo series allowed him to find a new path. By the end of the show, Loki had taken control of the multiverse’s timelines. Hiddleston noted that the series allowed the character to face his past mistakes, including his failed invasion of Earth. He explained, “In order to become someone different, whose story had a different ending.” He added that this growth gave him the control over his own story.
Looking ahead to Avengers: Doomsday, the stakes are high as the MCU shifts its focus. Hiddleston has already finished filming his scenes for the movie and hinted that the script is groundbreaking. He shared, “It is monumental. The centre of the story is absolutely brilliant and was so surprising when I read it. It just has never been done before.”
While fans wait for the new film, Hiddleston remains busy with other projects. He recently worked on the film Tenzing in Nepal and will soon be seen in the return of The Night Manager, which begins airing on January 11.
