DENVER (KDVR) — A rollercoaster ride that lies in the depths of the Colorado mountains has a weightless effect that flips riders upside down and drops them over 100 feet – all within less than a minute.

Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park is home to some of the highest thrills in the nation and is about two and a half hours away from Denver. It has two record-breaking rides with upside-down views and some of the highest elevation drops.

According to the park, “Cliffhanger” is the highest-elevation, full-sized roller coaster in North America.

The park said it measures 50 feet tall at an altitude of 7,160 feet and sits right next to the side of Iron Mountain. The Colorado River in Glenwood Canyon lies 1,450 feet below the ride.

Another thrill-seeking ride is the park’s newest coaster, coined “Defiance,” which opened a few years ago. According to the park, this coaster breaks another record as the highest looping roller coaster in the United States, as well as the steepest freefall in the Western U.S.

Sitting at 7,132 feet above sea level, the ride includes a 98-foot twisted top hat switch, 111-foot banana roll and 41-foot zero-g heartline roll – all within 56 seconds.

It’s known as a “one-of-a-kind” Gerstlauer Euro-Flight roller coaster with a 102.3-degree free-fall drop.

If you’re a daredevil up to the challenge, the rides are open all summer.
