JOLIET, Ill. — Three years after the shooting death of an 18-year-old male in Joilet, police say they have charged a third suspect linked to his murder after he was located in the Pacific Northwest.
Aidan Marquez-Martinez, 30, of Bolingbrook faces first-degree murder and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon following what police called an “extensive investigation” into the April 2021 death of 18-year-old Jwaun Jones.
WGN News reported that officers responding to Amita St. Joseph Medical Center following the shooting on April 4, 2021 learned that Jones was wounded while riding as a passenger in a car near Western Avenue and North Bluff Street.
Jones later died at the hospital.
In late February of this year, Joilet police obtained an arrest warrant for Marquez-Martinez. Nearly two months later, on April 21, US Marshals captured him in Portland, Oregon.
Marquez-Martinez was extradited to Illinois on Wednesday, July 10.
Bond information was not made available. Police arrested two people in connection with Jones’ death shortly after the fatal shooting: Paola Diaz and Adrian Bibian II.
