These are the best tacos in Colorado, according to Yelp

DENVER (KDVR) —National Taco Day is coming up in October, but Coloradans don’t need a holiday or Taco Tuesday to find some of the best Mexican food in the country.

National Taco Day falls on the first Tuesday of October — Oct. 1, according to the National Day Calendar. Yelp recently compiled a list of the best restaurants for tacos in each state, naming Tacos Aya Yay in Lafayette as the best taco spot in Colorado.

This isn’t the first time the restaurant has been named among the best spots — Tacos Aya Yay was featured in Yelp’s list of the top 100 taco spots in the U.S. in 2022. Plus, earlier this year, Yelp named Tacos Aya Yay, as well as Xicamiti La Taquería Bistro in Golden, among the top 25 best Mexican food restaurants in the country.

According to Yelp, chef José Pantoja and his wife Emily Martinez are from the Mexican states of Jalisco and Zacatecas. Yelp said the two have brought a “particular taco style” to their restaurant.

“Popularized in central Mexico, it’s a working person’s taco — small, portable, and made with simple ingredients. They’re no frills and all flavor, topped with your choice of more than 10 hand-cut and freshly seasoned proteins,” Yelp wrote.

The restaurant said on its Facebook page that their spicy sauce, onions and chili make their tacos some of the best.

The menu includes tacos, tortas, quesadillas, burritos, street tacos, fries and more, and diners can add some spice from the self-serve salsa bar.

Tacos Aya Yay has an overall five-star rating on Yelp with nearly 300 reviews. Many reviews praise the restaurant’s food quality, good service, speed and reasonable prices.

“Tacos Aya Yay isn’t just a meal – it’s a fiesta for your senses that will leave you craving more,” one Yelp reviewer wrote.

The restaurant is located at 1206 Centaur Village Dr. in Lafayette and is open daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to Google.
