‘The Last Mile Radio’ Looks at Prison Reform and the Road to Success for the Incarcerated

The Last Mile Radio is inspired by The Last Mile (TLM), a unique in-prison program that’s changing lives through technology-based education by preparing currently incarcerated students for careers upon their release. Hosted by the program’s co-founder, Chris Redlitz, and formerly incarcerated musician and audio producer, Eric Abercrombie (known as “Maserati-E”), The Last Mile Radio premieres on March 4 at 12pm ET on SiriusXM Triumph (Ch. 111).

After premiering each Saturday at 12pm ET, replays of The Last Mile Radio will broadcast Sundays at 9am and 3pm ET.

What is TLM?

Started in 2010 by venture capitalists Chris Redlitz and Beverly Parenti, two highly regarded tech entrepreneurs, TLM launched as a “tech accelerator” inside California’s San Quentin prison. The program teaches incarcerated individuals web development, audio and video production, professional and personal development, and, most critically, offers a second chance at life. It has since expanded from California into prisons in other states including Indiana, Michigan, North Dakota, Montana, Oklahoma, and most recently Massachusetts. In 2017, SiriusXM produced a six-part documentary series on TLM that went on to win a Gracie Award for Best Special-National.

What You’ll Hear on The Last Mile Radio

Inspired by the program, every week The Last Mile Radio will amplify the voices of influencers who are helping evolve the U.S. Justice System as we know it. Chris and Maserati-E will also spotlight impactful stories of current and former TLM students, who will discuss topics including music and creativity in prison, emotional literacy and processing emotions, goal setting, supporting means of reentry, educating the public, ways to get involved in prison reform and rehabilitation, and much more. The first episode features special guest and SiriusXM host Sway Calloway.

More About Chris Redlitz and Eric Abercrombie

Chris Redlitz is the co-founder of The Last Mile, the most progressive prison education program in the world and is the Managing Partner of Transmedia Capital based in Silicon Valley. Early in his career, Chris received Ad Age’s prestigious i20 award for his contributions to the development of interactive marketing and advertising. Prior to co-founding several innovative tech startups, Chris was part of Reebok’s explosive growth and owned one of the first specialty running stores in Southern California and remains a health and fitness advocate.

Eric Abercrombie (Maserati-E) was born in Oakland, California and was featured in the Emmy-nominated Documentary “Q-Ball.” During his incarceration, he learned sound design and film while at San Quentin State Prison. His mission is to show the world that people should not be defined by their past mistakes or conditions and provide a glimpse of what can be accomplished if afforded the opportunity. Eric hopes to change the world by seeing it through a different lens.

Training at SiriusXM for TLM Alumni

In addition to the new Saturday show, SiriusXM recently created a program for The Last Mile alumni which provides training about all facets of radio production from both the technical and production side. Already underway, it’s teaching a TLM alum how to operate a soundboard, use audio editing software, and participate in the production of live and pre-taped radio shows, preparing him for a role in the audio industry.
