Charlotte African American Book Festival

Saturday, June 8

11 a.m.-5 p.m. Second Ward Gymnasium. Free

This book fair for readers of all ages “celebrates African American contributions to literature, books, literacy, and the literary culture.” Shop books at discounted prices, meet featured authors, and attend discussions.

Laughter Yoga

Saturday, June 8 

1:30-2:15 p.m. Charlotte Meditation. Free

Guru Ranjit Deora, owner of Charlotte Meditation, leads his monthly laughter yoga class with “self-induced laughter, relaxation techniques, and yogic breathing.” 

Sonidos Latinos: Latin Sounds

Sunday, June 9

8:15 p.m. Symphony Park. Tickets start at $15

The Charlotte Symphony performs music from iconic Latin composers.  

Juneteenth Festival of the Carolinas

June 13-16

Plaza Midwood. Free

Celebrate Juneteenth in Plaza Midwood with a parade, a youth culture camp, a drum circle, live performances, a talent show, a children’s area, and more.

Wild on the Water

Saturday, June 15

9 a.m.-1 p.m. Latta Nature Preserve, Huntersville. Registration: $50

Charlotte Wildlife Stewards’ signature fundraising event kicks off with a guided paddle—in kayaks and canoes and on stand-up paddleboards—on Mountain Island Lake at Latta Nature Preserve, where a local naturalist will teach about ospreys, other wildlife and plants, and the importance of the Catawba River. Lunch and a raffle to follow. A limited number of kayaks and canoes are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, or you’re welcome to bring your own. 

Rock Hill Pride

June 15-23

Downtown Rock Hill, S.C. Free

This eight-day, grassroots Pride festival in downtown Rock Hill includes parties, performances, workshops, marches, shopping, drag shows, and more. 

Mamma Mia!

June 18-23

Belk Theater. Tickets start at $30

The classic musical about love, friendship, and identity stops in Charlotte on its 25th-anniversary tour. 

Durag Festival 

June 21-22

Camp North End. Tickets start at $12

“The one and only (unofficial) Met Gala of Durags is back” to celebrate the impact and evolution of Black culture. The festival kicks off a day early this year with a Conference Day of panel discussions, fireside chats, networking, and workshops. Saturday will be “the OG Experience” from years prior, with fashion, music, food, art activations, pop-up shops,
and more. 

Free RPG Day Festival

Saturday, June 22

11 a.m.-3:45 p.m. ImaginOn. Free

Hosted by ImaginOn and Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, this festival “connects teens and families with the Charlotte gaming community” and “is all about celebrating that gaming is for everyone.” The lineup includes a panel discussion, literacy activities, board games, tabletop role-playing games, and a swordsmanship workshop.  

E&A Puerto Rican Festival of the Carolinas

Saturday, June 22

Noon-10:30 p.m. Route 29 Pavilion, Concord. General admission: $20

Expect food, art, and lots of dancing at this celebration of Puerto Rican culture. 

Outlaw Music Festival

Willie Nelson & Family, Bob Dylan, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, and John Mellencamp headline this Americana, country, and roots music festival. 

For the Love of Harlem: An Immersive Experience

Noon-midnight. Ford Building, Camp North End. Free

Celebrate the lasting impact of the Harlem Renaissance with performances from the musical For the Love of Harlem; a Harlem Renaissance-inspired fashion show; and a mini ball. Wear your best 1920s-style outfit.

CLT Edge Fest

Saturday, June 29

3-9 p.m. NoDa Brewing North End. Free

Charlotte Street Art Collaborative’s third annual event has live painting by local mural artists, plus music and dance performances, yoga, spoken word poetry, an art scavenger hunt, and a fashion show.
