Thanksgiving Weekend at the box office was a total bust. With a $125 million total gross over the 5-day, this was one of the worst Thanksgiving weekends in recent memory (outside of 2020). Even last year grossed more.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever kept the top spot with $64 million for the 5-day. The film improved its Wednesday, Thursday and Friday numbers from the previous week. Its domestic total now stanss at #367.6 million.
Strange World debuted in 2nd with a massive bomb. The $180 million-budgeted film took $18.6 million for the 5-day from 4,714 theaters, well below expectations. Its the worst opening for a Disney animated during the holiday weekend since Treasure Planet (which actually grossed more when adjusting for inflation). The film received a B Cinemascore.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery overperformed in 3rd, with $13.3 million from 696 theaters, with a $19,000 per-theater-average. Netflix should be kicking themselves for not giving this a full theater release.
Devotion debuted in 4th with $9 million, another lower than expected debut. The film received an A- Cinemascore. The Menu rounded out the Top 5 with $7.3 million.
Indie side, Bones and All expanded to 2,727 theaters and took $3.5 million for the 5-day and received a B Cinemascore. The Fabelmans expanded to 638 theaters and took in $3.1 million.
Next weekend: Violent Night
