America’s waters are home to an incredible array of marine mammals – many species of whales, dolphins, manatees, sea otters, polar bears and more.
Right now, those animals are protected from deadly threats by the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA).
But this key law is under attack in Congress by a draft proposal to gut the MMPA in favor of giveaways to industry groups and other special interests.
The latest bill proposes to downgrade the MMPA’s goal from maintaining “healthy populations” to merely “survival.” If that happens, marine mammals like sea otters, whales, polar bears and manatees could be exposed to much higher rates of injury and even death from commercial fishing, oil and gas development and other human threats.
Your representative has a say in what happens to the MMPA and the animals it protects. Make sure they hear from you today!
Sign a message to your legislator urging them to stand against attempts to dismantle the MMPA and endanger marine wildlife!
