Today’s Wordle #503 Hint, Clues And Answer For Friday, November 4th

    Wordle Wordle burning bright.

    In the puzzles of the night;

    What immortal hand you see

To play you first, then Spelling Bee?

In what distant deeps or skies

Can we guess in just six tries?

On what wings dare we aspire

To guess again lest we expire?

What the drill? what the chain,

In what furnace was thy brain?

What the anvil? what dread grasp?

These words have letters five and so does clasp!

Okay I’ll stop. I thought to myself “Wordle Wordle” and then bam William Blake’s The Tyger popped into my brain and I thought to myself, “Oh hey I bet I could turn that weird poem into a Wordle poem! But it turns out that there’s just not that much to work with here.

Seriously, though, some great five-letter words in that last stanza for your future guesses. This is a great reason to read more poetry. You’ll pick up some great vocabulary to help with Wordle and other puzzle games!

    So let’s do it!

    Today’s Wordle Solution (with Spoilers!)

The Hint: Once framed as a kind of devilry that could capture someone’s very soul!

The Clue: This word has a duplicate vowel in it.

    The Answer:

Like that hint? Not only were people once suspicious—and superstitious—about photographs, believing their soul could be imprisoned in the photo, I also included two very big hints in my wording. I said that the answer was once “framed” and could “capture” someone’s soul—words that are very closely related to photo.

In any case, I was quite lucky today and burned through this one extremely fast. Spate was an attempt to use a word so close to Wordle Bot’s favorite—slate—without being dreadfully dull and using the one everyone uses. It narrowed down the field to just 6 remaining possible guesses, which ain’t half bad.

I considered trying words with ‘T’ and ‘P’ in them but decided I’d try to eliminate some letters instead. Ghoul would let me check on two more vowels and the ‘H’ which could go with either a ‘P’ or a ‘T’ quite nicely. This was a good guess, reducing total possibilities to just one, though I didn’t realize that until later.

Still, I knew that the word had HOT in the middle and once I popped the ‘P’ in the front (the only place it made sense) I knew it had to be photo. You can’t spell photo without hot, as they say! (Do they say that?)

I beat Wordle Bot again today. He guessed slate / briny / motto / photo which was just spectacularly worse than my guesses so there!

Huzzah for me and Huzzah for thee! Huzzah for thy dread symmetry! Be well, Wordlers!

Today’s Wordle #479 Answer, Hint And Clues For Tuesday, October 11th

Well I’ve come down with my first cold of the season. I was hit with ye olde coronavirus back in June. This time around it seems to be a more old-fashioned malady, unless my test is reporting a false negative which is always possible.

COVID, of course, just felt like a bad cold to me so this isn’t too different. Fever, sore throat, cough, congestion and brain fog and low energy. I’ve still managed to get some work in but writing with this much brain fog is not something I’d recommend!

Still, even with all that I managed to solve today’s Wordle in three guesses, which I thought was pretty good. Let’s take a look, shall we?

How To Solve Today’s Wordle (Spoilers!)

The Hint: You want to make this kind of point if you hope to win an argument.

The Clue: This word has two different vowels.

    The Answer:

I’m not sure why the word tried popped into my head. But once it was there I figured, why not? Two vowels and three pretty common constants. I wasn’t expecting it to be this good of an opener, but today it got me down to just 18 remaining possible solutions.

I was livid when livid ended up being incorrect, but fortunately for me I only had one possible solution remaining, and with just a little tweaking—swapping the ‘V’ and the ‘L’—it became quickly apparent what the right word would be: valid.

Now I feel less livid and more validated. Huzzah!

Well, the weekend has been pretty good so far on my end. My 15-year-old and I crushed a three hour hike up and down a mountain. We call the trail Mordor because it’s the kind of trail you simply don’t walk. It’s more of a climb. The trail itself has been all but washed away by floods and fires. It’s treacherous.

But at the top you come to aspen groves turning yellow and thick lovely pine.

Then I made a pretty awesome ‘Fakes-giving’ dinner and stuffed my face.

    Okay, onto the Wordle!

    Today’s Wordle Solution (Spoilers!)

    The Hint: A casual greeting.

The Clue: Often accompanied by the word ‘Y’all.’

    The Answer:

Ha! Take that Wordle Bot! TAKE THAT! Bwahahahahahahaha!!!

I solved today’s Wordle two steps faster than the damnable robot. How’s them apples???

This is why I don’t recommend using the ‘best’ starting word every day. Today, my starting—paint—word was terrible. It left me with 886 possible remaining options. Not great at all.

But showy turned the tables big time, bringing 886 down to just 1. I didn’t know it at the time, of course, and I very nearly entered the word howly because I just couldn’t think of anything else. Saying it out loud helped (I recommend that when you’re in a pickle). I immediately heard howdy and thought “Well, it might work—let’s give it a shot.”

I was worried it wasn’t one of the 2,309 possible Wordle solutions but it was. And the winner! Huzzah!
