  • Winning ticket for $980 million jackpot sold in Georgia, Mega Millions says

    [ad_1]

A Mega Millions player in Georgia won the $980 million jackpot on Friday, overcoming abysmal odds to win the huge prize. The single winning ticket was purchased at a Publix supermarket in Newnan, which is roughly 40 miles from Atlanta, a news release from the lottery says. “We are thrilled to congratulate the largest winner in our state’s history,” Georgia Lottery President and CEO Gretchen Corbin said in the news release.Georgia state law allows lottery winners to remain anonymous if they win a prize of $250,000 or more and provides a written statement asking for confidentiality. The win also earned the store a $50,000 retailer bonus from the Georgia Lottery. The numbers selected were 1, 8, 11, 12 and 57 with the gold Mega Ball 7.The winner overcame Mega Millions’ astronomical odds of 1 in 290.5 million by matching all six numbers. The next drawing will be on Tuesday.A winner can choose an annuity or the cash option — a one-time, lump-sum payment of $452.2 million before taxes. If there are multiple jackpot winners, the prize is shared. There were four Mega Millions jackpot wins earlier this year, but Friday’s drawing was the 40th since the last win on June 27, a game record, officials said.In September, two Powerball players in Missouri and Texas won a nearly $1.8 billion jackpot, one of the largest in the U.S. The current Mega Millions jackpot isn’t among the top 10 U.S. lottery jackpots but would be the eighth-largest for Mega Millions since the game began in 2002. Mega Millions offers lesser prizes in addition to the jackpot. The odds of winning any of these is 1 in 23. There were more than 800,000 winners of non-jackpot prizes from the Nov. 11 drawing. Tickets are $5 each and are sold in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Half the proceeds from each Mega Millions ticket remains in the jurisdiction where the ticket was sold. Local lottery agencies run the game in each jurisdiction and how profits are spent is dictated by law. Sometimes gambling can become addictive. • Two lottery players hit jackpots at Publix stores in Florida. Here’s where

    [ad_1]

Two lucky lottery players hit the jackpot on back-to-back nights in Florida.

The players bought Fantasy 5 tickets that matched all the numbers picked in the Oct. 7 and Oct. 8 evening drawings, making each of them worth more than $100,000, results show.

Both of the winning tickets came from Publix grocery stores. Here’s what the Florida Lottery shared about the prizes on its website and in news releases:

    • $106,751.29 ticket sold in Hernando
    • $113,722.88 ticket sold in Gainesville

The player in Hernando, a roughly 75-mile drive northwest from Orlando, won big Oct. 7. The lucky streak continued the next night when a person won even more cash in Gainesville, about 110 miles northwest from Orlando.

Fantasy 5 offers tickets starting at $1. To score the jackpot prize, a person’s ticket must match all five numbers picked in a drawing. Here are the winning numbers from the recent drawings:

    • Oct. 7: 5-26-27-30-31
    • Oct. 8: 18-19-21-24-29

As of early Oct. 9, the Florida Lottery said only the Hernando player had claimed their prize. In the Sunshine State, the winners of drawing games have about six months to come forward.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.

  • Did anyone win the Powerball on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025? Here’s how to check, what to know

    [ad_1]

Two winners in Missouri and Texas will split the almost $2 billion dollar Powerball jackpot prize drawn on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025. The winning numbers were 11-23-44-61-62 and the Powerball was 17.

The grand prize, one the largest jackpots of all time, rose to $1.79 billion for Saturday’s drawing with a lump-sum cash option of $820.6 million.

Two additional winners from Kansas and Texas matched 5 plus the Power Play, winning $2 million each. 18 other players matched 5 numbers, earning $1 million. The tickets were purchased in California Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Texas and West Virginia.

Here’s what to know if you’re a first-time player in Florida.

How to check Powerball numbers in Florida

You can check your Powerball numbers in several ways:

    • Scan the barcode on the bottom of your payslip with the Florida Lottery app or at a Florida Lottery retailer.

Is there an app to check Powerball numbers? How to check numbers online

You can scan your ticket with the Florida Lottery app and check your numbers online via the Powerball website.

How many Powerball numbers do you need to win a prize?

There are nine ways to win prizes, according to the Powerball Prize Chart:

    • Match all 5 numbers + powerball: Grand Prize

    • Match all 5 numbers: $1 Million

    • Match 4 numbers + powerball: $50,000

    • Match 3 numbers + powerball: $100

    • Match 2 numbers + powerball: $7

    • Match 1 number + powerball: $4

All lower-tier prizes are set cash amounts.

How long after winning the lottery do you get the money?

Since Powerball is a multi-state game, the Multi-State Lottery Association must collect the revenue from each of the 45 participating states before the jackpot prize can be paid. Jackpot prizes are not available until 15 days after the draw date, says Florida Lottery.

    Can Lottery winners remain anonymous?

    Not in Florida.

Florida law mandates that the Florida Lottery provide the winner’s name, city of residence, game won, date won and amount won to any third party who requests the information, according to Florida Lottery official website.

When is the next Powerball drawing?

The next Powerball drawing will be held on Monday, Sep. 8, 2025. The estimated jackpot is now $20 million with a cash value of $9.2 million.

  • US Powerball prize soars to $1.7 billion after 41 draws without winner

    [ad_1]

DES MOINES, Iowa: The Powerball jackpot has soared to a staggering US$1.7 billion after no one won the top prize in the September 3 drawing.

The winning numbers drawn that night were 3, 16, 29, 61, 69, and the Powerball number 22. But once again, no ticket matched them all. This marks the 41st consecutive drawing without a jackpot winner since May 31.

The next drawing will take place on the night of September 6, and the prize is now projected to be the third-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history.

Powerball is known for its incredibly tough odds — just 1 in 292.2 million for the jackpot. Those odds are intentional, designed to keep rolling the prize higher and higher until someone finally wins. While the top prize is difficult to hit, lottery officials point out that the chances are much better for the game’s smaller prizes, which are awarded regularly. Drawings are held three times a week.

For the draw on September 4, the jackpot was estimated at $1.4 billion for a winner who chose the annuity option, which pays out in 30 installments over 29 years. Most winners, however, pick the cash option, which would have been worth about $634.3 million.

Powerball tickets cost $2 each and are sold in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

  • Five Powerball tickets hit big in Washington. Here’s where they were sold

    [ad_1]

Five Powerball tickets sold in Washington were big winners despite missing the $1.44 billion jackpot, lottery officials said.

Three tickets matched four numbers and the Powerball, winning $50,000 in the Sept. 3 drawing, according to Washington’s Lottery. Another two tickets also had the Power Play add-on, bringing their winnings to $100,000, lottery officials said.

Nationwide, tickets won millions in prizes in the drawing, although no one took home the grand prize, McClatchy News reported.

The next drawing is Sept. 6, with an estimated $1.7 billion jackpot, the national Powerball website said.

Where were the winning Washington tickets sold?

Both of Washington’s $100,000 tickets were sold at Fred Meyer locations, according to lottery officials.

    The stores are:

    • 5050 State Highway 303 NE, Bremerton

    • 1900 SE Sedgwick Road, Port Orchard

The $50,000 tickets were sold at the following stores:

The winning numbers for the Sept. 3 drawing were 3, 16, 29, 61 and 69 with a Powerball of 22. The Power Play multiplier was 2x.

In all, “a whopping 28 large prizes” have now been sold in the Evergreen State, “since the jackpot was last won on May 31, 2025,” lottery officials said. The prizes have ranged from $50,000 to $1 million.

    Powerball winners across the US

Powerball tickets sold in Michigan, Oregon, Texas and Wyoming matched five winning numbers and the Power Play multiplier to win $2 million each in the Wednesday, Sept. 3 drawing, the national Powerball site said.

Tickets sold in Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Ohio and Pennsylvania matched five winning numbers but not the Powerball to win $1 million each. Two players in California, which adjusts lottery prize amounts based on the number of tickets sold and number of winners, won $984,000 each, the California Lottery said.

More than 6.3 million other Powerball tickets sold in the United States also won prizes ranging from $4 to $200, McClatchy News reported.

When is the next Powerball drawing?

Since the grand prize wasn’t won, it now increases to an estimated $1.7 billion, with a cash value of about $770.3 million, for the next drawing Saturday, Sept. 6, according to the national Powerball site.

Tickets are sold on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.

Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
