  • The Women of The View Often Disagree. And Then Savannah Chrisley Joined the Panel

    By design, The View is designed to dig up controversy. The spirited discussions that define the long-running ABC show (which sometimes bubble over into full on arguments) are a huge part of its appeal, and its hosts are all aware of that. Which is why it’s kind of big news that last week they all agreed on something — the permanent hosts, anyway.

    Due to long-term host Alyssa Farah Griffin recently giving birth, the influencer, former reality television star, and daughter of pardoned criminals, Savannah Chrisley, has joined as an interim host. Chrisley is best known for, well, she isn’t that known. But she is rich, Christian, and Republican, so because she wants to be television, she gets to be. However, she was in for a rude awakening when she tried to broadcast a known falsehood about democratic congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, perhaps because she forgot she wasn’t on Fox and actually needed to back up the things she was saying with evidence.

    The Chrisley Knows Best star turned to the MAGA crowd when it came to freeing her parents. Todd and Julie Chrisley were both in prison for 12 counts, including conspiracy to commit bank fraud, wire fraud, and tax evasion. They barely served their sentence and a lot of their time was spent with their daughter defending them and complaining about their treatment in prison. Now, she is a talking head on The View and a controversial one at that.

    The AOC conversation that shocked viewers

    Her first big controversy started with the hosts discussing an incident at the Munich Security Conference on 13 February, where the usually eloquent AOC gave an uncharacteristically scattered reply. Although falling short of her usually high standard of public speaking, it was still more understandable than the vast majority of Donald Trump speeches, something The View co-host Joy Behar pointed out.

    Chrisey countered that Trump would at least “recover” from his mishaps, which is true in the same way going under the guillotine would help someone recover from a headache. At that point Whoopi Goldberg, who was playing moderator in the discussion, noted that Trump was the president, so should always be held to a higher standard, to which Chrisey’s conservative training kicked in and the mistruths began.

    “AOC, though, is also the Democrats’ pick for next election,” she claimed, despite AOC confirming she had no desire to run in 2028. This was picked up on by the other four women on screen, leading to the rare mass-agreement between the hosts. It’s not quite a sign of the apocalypse, but it’s definitely not something you see every day, and long may it continue.

    Chrisley is vastly unqualified for her temporary hosting job and it doesn’t seem to be starting off too well.

  • Alex Consani’s Declaration, “Being in a Relationship is Fun, But, Like, So Much Work,” Is Indicative of a Much Bigger Zeitgeist in Dating and Monogamy (RIP)

    Although Amelia Dimoldenberg has had many guests on for Chicken Shop Date this year, among the most memorable still remains Alex Consani. Not just because she has the blasé “audacity” to say she’s from California so she doesn’t know geography (a.k.a. California is the only geography worth knowing in the U.S., or at all), but because, despite the overall “premise” of Chicken Shop Date (tongue-in-cheek or not) being about Dimoldenberg’s bid to find “true love”—or at least a “steady” someone—Consani disinterestedly declares, “Being in a relationship is fun, but, like, so much work.” 

    This statement might seem “innocuous”/intended to be “cute” enough, but it’s telling of something larger. Particularly amongst those in Consani’s generation (Z, in case you couldn’t guess). And that is, of course, that the pervasive sense of entitlement/a “me first” philosophy/narcissism in general has reached such a zenith that most people of “dating age” really don’t see the point. And besides that, why bother when everything is on demand at the touch of a button (or swipe of a screen)—dick and pussy included? Hence, Consani has effectively announced what has been quite evident for the past several years, which is that Gen Z, and even many beyond that generational boundary, are rejecting the notion of what a “conventional” relationship used to mean. And yes, to a certain extent, what Consani is saying isn’t exactly groundbreaking or “revolutionary.” In fact, Whoopi Goldberg already said it all with her 2016 quote, “I’m much happier on my own. I can spend as much time with somebody as I want to spend, but I’m not looking to be with somebody forever or live with someone. I don’t want somebody in my house.” 

    It was that final line in the quote that launched a thousand memes, with many of them including the text, “Whoopi Goldberg on Marriage: ‘I don’t want somebody in my house.’” Goldberg herself is a baby boomer, and her feelings about “needing” a man (or rather, not needing one) have also become increasingly common within a generation that represents one of the heights of what was once considered “traditional values.” But for an increasing majority of women, particularly those who are within a certain income tax bracket, the “point” of a relationship has only diminished in value over time. 

    Here, too, it can be argued that Candace Bushnell was the first modern “revolutionary” to put a spotlight on this reality in her “Sex and the City” column, writing, “For the first time in Manhattan history, many women in their thirties to early forties have as much money and power as men—or at least enough to feel like they don’t need a man, except for sex.” And no, that comment is certainly not specific to Manhattan. What’s more, it seems that, increasingly, men are scarcely “required” even for sex, what with the many advancements in the world of self-pleasure and fertility. Moreover, men most definitely have their pick of ways and means to get what they want out of a woman (ersatz or otherwise) without ever having to “date” her (see also: the rise of sex robots). 

    At another point in one of Bushnell’s columns, she quotes one of her friends saying, “Love means having to align yourself with another person, and what if that person turns out to be a liability?” To be sure, the number one way that a person can be a “liability” to someone else is financially. Think: romance scams. Then, of course, there’s a different kind of investment that occurs when one attempts being in a “traditional” relationship: an emotional one. 

    And when, often inevitably, that sense of emotional attachment/investment goes bust, it can leave the person who got more burned in the relationship kicking themselves for putting so much time and effort into nurturing something that didn’t “pan out.” Something that couldn’t last. Indeed, more and more, it appears as though younger generations are having the spell of “forever” broken not only by cold, hard reality, but the virtual absence of the same steady diet of rom-coms that were once fed to previous generations, including millennials. Without such propaganda to “promote the lie” anymore, it has become even more of a challenge to convince people that “true love” or “eternal love” is actually “a thing” and not a “capitalist conspiracy” (one that Beyoncé and Jay-Z are still working hard to sell). 

    To boot, someone like Consani is the epitome of what happens when a person grows up entirely on and with the internet. The concept of “real life” or ever being “turned off,” performance-wise, is, thus anathema. A concept that makes it even more difficult to fathom a person’s ability to ever get to know someone in a truly “real” (read: offline) context. In addition to this, there are some who posit that, despite Gen Z being the “loneliest” generation (again, blame the internet) and the one most likely to be single, it isn’t all doom and gloom with regard to the changing face of what a relationship means. As a “generational expert” commented to Newsweek, “[In the future], we’ll [probably] see more communal living, chosen families and alternative relationship structures that align with Gen Z’s values of autonomy and mutual respect. If older generations want to blame Gen Z for killing relationships, maybe they should ask themselves why young people don’t see relationships as a safe or beneficial investment anymore.” 

    Ah, that ugly term again: investment. A word that connotes just how much relationships have come to be seen more as work and less as something rewarding and romantic by sheer virtue of not having to be alone all the time. However, gone are the days when being alone was seen as an undeniable stigma (as further evidenced by the recent series finale of And Just Like That…). In truth, you’re probably more likely to be looked upon as a freakshow in the current climate for being in a committed, monogamous relationship than you would be for “flying solo.” The “work” of the former far outweighing the “fun” of it, as far as Consani’s kind is concerned.

    (CNN) — Thirty years later, some members of the cast of “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit” reunited with star Whoopi Goldberg on “The View.”

    Goldberg was beloved in her portrayal of Deloris van Cartier, a woman who in the 1992 film “Sister Act” poses as a nun while in a witness protection program. By the 1994 sequel, the character is implored by her former friends to once again become Sister Mary Clarence to help the choir at the fictitious St. Francis Academy in San Francisco.

    So it made sense for Goldberg to host a reunion show Wednesday on the ABC daytime talk series she helps moderate.

    Asking people to be in your movie is a tough habit to break.

    As any regular viewer of The View knows, there are two questions moderator Whoopi Goldberg loves asking the show’s guests on live television. The first of which is to come back to guest co-host, an offer that never materializes, and the second is asking them to co-star with her in the long-awaited Sister Act 3. Goldberg has been struggling to make Sister Act 3 happen for years, and when Disney finally gave the project the go in 2021 with Tyler Perry as a producer, she wasted no time assembling a cast. Using her day job at The View as an open casting call, Goldberg brilliantly circumvents agents and managers by putting actors right on the spot in front of an audience. Anything that has to be done to make this movie happen — after all, what a waste it would be to miss out on a title like Sister Act 3: Breaking the Habit. Let’s look back at the many people who Goldberg has already asked to appear in this (hopefully) upcoming film, from Pope Francis to JoJo Siwa.

    As Daisy Ridley took her seat for her May 25, 2024 appearance on The View, she giddily told Goldberg, “I’m a really big fan.” In turn, Goldberg responded by saying, “I know you’re an extraordinary singer, maybe we should talk about 3. But we’ll do that another time.” The sheer power of being able to refer to Sister Act 3 as simply 3, and still have a gobsmacked Ridley know exactly what she’s talking about. Most talk shows only give the guests a mug, The View gives them gigs.

    While appearing on The Tonight Show in May of 2024, Goldberg revealed to Jimmy Fallon that during her recent meeting with the pope (who she says seemed to be a fan of Sister Act), she offered him a cameo in the upcoming sequel. “He said he’d see what his time was like,” Goldberg joked. The offer seems like a smart move, given that it might take an act of God to make this movie happen.

    In February of 2024, Goldberg reunited with Sheryl Lee Ralph, who played the mother of Lauryn Hill’s character in Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, and surprised her with an offer to return to the franchise. “We’re in the process of putting together 3, will you come be part of it? Whatever it is?” she asked.

    Back when Jimmy Fallon appeared on The View in March of 2023, Goldberg doubled down on an offer she had extended to him. “You still gonna come and do Sister Act?” she asked, with the late night host confirming by telling Goldberg, “Whatever I can do to help, I will do a cameo, I will pop my head through a window and wave, I’ll do whatever you need me to do.”

    That conversation got the table thinking, with Joy Behar chiming in to suggest that all of the panelists join the fun. “We could all be nuns also, you know,” she said, with Alyssa Farah Griffin adding, “I’ve been pitching this.” Goldberg didn’t seem quite as receptive to this idea, but conceded that it’s technically a possibility, saying, “Yeah we could.”

    While appearing on Loose Women in January of 2023, Goldberg delivered a public plea down the barrel of the camera directly to her Sister Act co-star Dame Maggie Smith. “One of the things that I want to make sure I do while I’m here is I want to let Maggie Smith know, that I’m holding the part of Mother Superior for you, because I just can’t do it with anybody but you,” she said. “So if you need me to come over here and shoot it and do whatever we have to do, we will do whatever you want us to do. Because we don’t want to do it without you, Maggie.”

    In October of 2022, during an appearance on Hell of a Week with Charlamagne Tha God, Goldberg teased her dream cast for the project. “I want everybody to come in, I want Lizzo to come in, I want everybody. I want the girl with the chest, what’s her name?” she asked, before remembering Nicki Minaj’s name, “Nicki! I want Nicki to come in.”

    When Kathy Najimy, who played Sister Mary Patrick in the original films, came to the table to promote Hocus Pocus 2, she asked about the status of the third movie. Goldberg told her that it was in fact happening, but came short of extending a formal invitation. Perhaps Najimy’s return simply goes without saying! Nonetheless, Goldberg did credit the return of Hocus Pocus with inspiring Disney to let Sister Act’s nuns get back in the habit as well.

    Before Jenifer Lewis’s interview on The View in September of 2022 even got started, Goldberg told her, “You know, we’re still gonna do that movie, you know that, going back,” before reminding the audience, “You know, she’s in Sister Act.” Lewis appeared in both Sister Act films as Michelle, one of Deloris Van Cartier’s background singers.

    Alright, this one certainly wasn’t a formal offer, but Goldberg made a point to let JoJo Siwa know back in 2021 that casting was underway. Just imagine her introducing a convent of nuns to “gay pop.”

    It’s only fitting that the famously booked Keke Palmer was the first to get this ball rolling, not even waiting for Goldberg to make the offer during her appearance on The View way back in November of 2021. “Now Whoopi, I gotta shoot my shot, like I did with Issa a little bit ago,” Palmer said, referring to tweeting her way onto Issa Rae’s Insecure. “I heard that Tyler Perry is doing Sister Act 3 and I just want you to know I’m available for the job. Any job. I mean, you ain’t got to say nothing now, you know, I’ll send you an email or something. Just let me know if you need me.” But as it turns out, great minds think alike. “I already brought it up,” Goldberg responded, which sounds like she’s definitely in the mix, and thank god for that. Forget the pope, Keke Palmer is the most important addition to this franchise!

    Kelly Clarkson has revealed she used a weight-loss medication to improve her health — but she wants people to know it’s not Ozempic.

    During Monday’s broadcast of the singer’s talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, she interviewed Whoopi Goldberg about her weight loss. In recent months, both Clarkson, 42, and Goldberg, 68, have been the subject of online speculation about their slimmed-down figures.

    Goldberg has already admitted to taking the drug Mounjaro, an anti-diabetic medication often used for weight loss.

    “Every time I run into you, you look younger! You’re like Benjamin Button. It’s like crazy every time you walk in!” Clarkson complimented Goldberg during the interview.

    Goldberg replied that she looked younger because of the weight she’s lost. The Sister Act star said she’s shed the weight of “almost two people.”

    She said prior to taking Mounjaro, she weighed 300 pounds. Clarkson said she was 203 pounds at her heaviest weight.

    “I am doing that wonderful shot that works for folks who need some help, and it’s been really good for me,” Goldberg said.

    Clarkson was quick to sympathize and said she’s also lost a considerable amount of weight using a form of medication.

    “Mine is a different one than people assume, but I ended up having to do that too because my bloodwork got so bad,” Clarkson revealed. “Everybody thinks it’s Ozempic, and it’s not. It’s something else.”

    Ozempic is also a diabetes drug and has been credited with helping many big-name celebrities lose weight in recent years, surging the drug’s popularity. The increased demand for Ozempic, and other similar drugs, has led to medication shortages in Canada and the U.S.

    Though Clarkson did not specify what about her bloodwork was of concern, she said her doctors “chased me for two years” and encouraged her to use a weight-loss medication. Clarkson said she was “afraid” to take the unnamed drug because she had already been diagnosed with thyroid problems.

    Regardless, Clarkson maintained she was never insecure or unhappy about her weight.

    Goldberg and Clarkson said they now find it difficult to recognize themselves in photos or videos from when they were heavier.

    Goldberg said she was once approached by a woman who falsely believed the actor had been wearing a fat suit during her 2022 film Till, about the brutal lynching of Emmett Till. Goldberg said she was “indignant” after hearing the comment.

    Clarkson said she herself looked like she was “about to die of a heart attack” when she was at her heaviest weight.

    Last month, when Clarkson had actor Kevin James on her talk show, she revealed she’d been diagnosed as pre-diabetic before her weight loss, meaning she was at high risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

    Also in April, Clarkson told People magazine her on-the-go lifestyle in New York — as well as listening to her doctor — helped to keep her fit.

    “Walking in the city is quite the workout,” she said. “And I’m really into infrared saunas right now. And I just got a cold plunge because everybody wore me down.”

    Clarkson also added that she eats a “healthy mix” of foods and has a protein-focused diet.

    Earlier this week, the EGOT award winner sat down with Don Lemon for an exclusive interview on his YouTube channel.

    Goldberg and Lemon chatted about her new book, ‘Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother and Me.’ The award-winning actress also opened up about her thoughts on marriage and how she prefers “hit and runs” instead of long-term relationships.

    “Hit and runs are great. I don’t mind those. But you can’t spend the night,” Goldberg said.

    The ‘Color Purple’ star continued to explain that she currently doesn’t have time to entertain relationships and doesn’t want to be married. Goldberg also stated that enjoying “hit and runs” doesn’t make you a bad person.

    “I’m at the point in my life where I want to see you when I see you, and then you go.”

    This is not the first time that Goldberg has been candid about relationships and her dating history. The Shade Room previously reported, the talk show host revealed that one of her past boos was actually “40 years older” than her.

    According to ET, Goldberg made the shocking announcement during an episode of ‘The View’ in March.

    The Oscar-winning actress and “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg has announced that she is teaming up with the black streaming service known as Blkfam, which aims to make free kid-friendly content for black audiences.

    Goldberg’s New Venture

    Goldberg is an equity investor in Blkfam, which launched yesterday across multiple platforms.

    “I have a 10-year-old great-granddaughter — and there isn’t a lot of content out there created by people who look like her, for her,” Goldberg, 68, told Variety. “I feel like we’re not always represented in the best possible way.”

    Goldberg went on to say that before investing in Blkfam, “no one has ever invited me to be part of the ground floor. And this is not even the ground floor, it’s the basement!”

    “I like the idea of being part of something that will grow,” she added. “As I get older, I say, ‘Wow, things will outlast me.’ This is one of the things I hope outlasts me — I could be the Black woman Walt Disney!”

    Blkfam Founder Speaks Out

    Founded by digital media veteran Larry Adams, who called Goldberg personally about investing, Blkfam boasts a content library that “includes more than 20 syndicated series, with over 1,000 hours of animation titles, dozens of animated characters of color and diverse gender experiences, and hundreds of hours of original music-driven content.”

    Blkfam also has 10 original live-action and animated series in development that are set to debut on the streaming service throughout this year.

    Adams explained that he was motivated to create Blkfam after browsing through the Black programming section of a popular streaming service, which he declined to name, to find something to watch with his children, only to discover  “a ton of R-rated content.”

    “Black culture and content is so often stereotyped, siloed or written off, so I wanted to create a platform where my kids and I can be entertained without having to face those same daily biases,” Adams said. “By curating authentic content — proven through data and AI — primarily from Black storytellers, we’ve built a service reflecting true inclusion and diversity, where Black parents and children especially can feel holistically represented.”

    Adams is particularly excited to partner with Goldberg, saying that, “The magic of working with Whoopi Goldberg is, she has a magic bag of ideas.”

    Blkfam’s Content Partners And Business Model

    Content partners for Bkfam include Candle Media’s ATTN and PlayWatch Kids.

    “We are extremely excited to be partnering with Blkfam — we feel this is a historic moment for families across the globe,” PlayWatch owner Jimmy Jenkins said in a statement. “Ultimately this platform will impact our children, and our children’s children.”

    Adams concluded by saying that Blkfam’s business model will involve financing original series through brand partnerships.

    “We are not doing the same thing other streamers have done where they go out and get 10,000 hours of stuff,” he said. “Our curated approach means [the catalog] won’t be as deep and endless as a Netflix, but it will be interesting faces you haven’t seen before.”

    Goldberg regularly enjoys making everything about race and using that to divide our country even further every day on “The View,” so it comes as no surprise that she jumped to be involved in this racially motivated venture. Given how many streaming services are out there these days, however, it remains to be seen if this will actually be as successful as she is hoping.

    On Wednesday’s episode of the ABC talk show “The View,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg launched a truly vile attack on Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), branding him a “looney tune” for denying systemic racism.

    Goldberg Attacks Scott

    Goldberg attacked Scott while she and her co-hosts interviewed Clay Cane, who recently released a book titled, “The Grift: The Downward Spiral of Black Republicans.” 

    “Let’s not forget, he voted against The Voting Rights Act, gutted the George Floyd Policing Act, and came on this very show and denied systemic racism,” Cane said.

    The radically liberal co-host Sunny Hostin responded by claiming that Scott “insulted” her when he appeared on “The View” last year.

    “Well, I was here, too,” Goldberg said before viciously attacking Scott by saying that “he was a Looney Tune.”

    Co-host Joy Behar chimed in to whine that it is difficult for her to watch Scott speak at Donald Trump rallies, adding that he is  “desperate” for power. 

    “What’s sad about Tim Scott is that I think he knows that if he called out the bigotry in his own party versus endorsing a bigot for president, he knows they would throw him out faster than Liz Cheney,” Cane said.

    “It’s pathetic to watch,” Behar continued, going on to note that Scott recently got engaged. “That’s because he wants the job as VP, right? So the engagement was a good way to say, ‘Hey, I’m going to be married. I’m going to be legit. I can be a vice president to Trump.’”

    Scott Schools ‘The View’ Hosts

    While appearing on “The View” last year, Scott refused to cater to the left-wing narrative of systemic racism in the U.S.

    “One of the reasons why I’m on the show is because of the comments that were made frankly on this show that the only way for a young African-American kid to be successful in this country is to be the exception and not the rule. That’s a dangerous, offensive, disgusting message to send to our young people today that the only way to succeed is by being the exception,” Scott said at the time, according to Fox News.

    Not stopping there, Scott proceeded to boast about the African-American success in the U.S., pointing out the record low unemployment rate among African Americans.

    “Progress in America is palpable, it can be measured in generations,” he said. “I look back at the fact that my grandfather, born in 1921 in Salley, South Carolina, when he was on a sidewalk, a White person was coming — he had to step off and not make eye contact.”

    “That man believed then, with some doubt now, in the goodness of America, because he believed that faith in God, faith in himself, and faith in what the future could hold for his kids, would unleash opportunities in ways that you cannot imagine,” Scott added. “So, what I’m suggesting is that yesterday’s exception is today’s rule.”

    There’s nobody that shameless liberals like Goldberg despise more than a black conservative, as the existence of someone like Scott completely destroys their narrative that the Republican Party is full of racists. Goldberg can bash Scott all that she wants to, but if she really wants to see a “looney tune,” all she has to do is look in the mirror.

    During Tuesday’s episode of her ABC talk show “The View,” Whoopi Goldberg went into panic mode over Donald Trump’s massive victory in the Iowa caucus on Monday.

    ‘Don’t Get Suckered’

    Despite harsh weather conditions and ongoing efforts from the left to take him down, Trump secured a 30-point win in the Iowa caucus that took place on Monday, according to Decider.

    “This seems par for the course,” Goldberg said. “You know, it’s early days and none of us are going to know what happens until it happens.”

    “So don’t get suckered,” she continued as the super liberal co-host Joy Behar chimed in to add, “Don’t get complacent!”

    “Don’t get suckered,” Goldberg added. “This is yours. This belongs to the United States of America, all the people sitting here and at home, this is your election. We can’t tell you who to vote for, we’re just telling you what we’re seeing. Keep that in mind.”

    Behar’s Meltdown

    During this same segment, Behar had a full meltdown over the caucus results.

    “This is what the 5 percent voted for,” Behar said, according to Entertainment Weekly. “They voted for a guy who, today, had to come to New York to show up in court in a case against a woman that a federal judge has already said he raped. That’s who you voted for.”

    Behar went on to claim that Trump has lost “so many times” as she made an L-sign on her forehead.

    “You voted for a guy who said, come, risk your lives for the grand wizard,” she continued, referring to the title of the national leader of the Ku Klux Klan. “Come in the snow and the sleet, because I am more important than your life. That’s who the 5 percent voted for.”

    Trump’s Victory Speech

    Trump responded to his victory on Monday by calling for Americans to “come together.”

    “I really think this is time now for everybody, our country, to come together,” Trump said, according to The Daily Signal. “We want to come together, whether … Republican or Democrat or liberal or conservative.”

    “I want to congratulate Ron and Nikki for having a good time together. We are all having a good time together. And I think they both actually did very well, I do. They both did very well,” Trump added, referring to his opponents Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley.

    Trump then referenced Vivek Ramaswamy, saying, “I also want to congratulate Vivek. He did a hell of a job, going from zero, and he’s getting about 8%.”

    Trump was not so positive towards President Joe Biden, however.

    “I don’t want to be overly rough on the president, but I have to say that he is the worst president that we have had in the history of our country,” Trump said. “He’s destroying our country. … I thought to myself, Jimmy Carter is happy now. Because he will go down as being a brilliant president by comparison to Joe Biden.”

    A shameless liberal like Goldberg really should be panicking about Trump’s caucus win because it shows that leftists have failed in their quest to destroy him. In the end, nobody should be surprised if Trump is back in the White House at this time next year!

    Whoopi Goldberg had a full meltdown on “The View” this week over Donald Trump claiming that President Joe Biden “is the destroyer” of democracy during a rally on Saturday.

    Goldberg Sounds Off About Trump

    “Joe Biden is not the defender of American democracy – Joe Biden is the destroyer of American democracy,” Trump said during a campaign stop in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, according to USA Today.

    This didn’t sit well with Goldberg, who fired back at Trump on “The View” on Monday morning.

    “See, if that were actually true, you would not be doing what you were doing because he would’ve put your ass in jail,” she said. “If he was destroying democracy, he would have been — see, this is the thing you don’t get, man. When people destroy democracy, your rights don’t matter. That’s how you know that’s not what he’s doing.”

    Goldberg has long been fantasizing about Trump being sent to prison. Earlier this year, she called for an amendment to the Constitution that would prevent Trump from running for president from behind bars.

    “What’s really starting to freak me out is the idea that we’re not even discussing changing the Constitution to make it say you cannot be in jail and be the president,” she said, according to The Wrap. “Because, my fear — I’m a big fan of amendments, because I feel like, unless we start to plug these holes, this is gonna keep biting us in the behind.”

    “The amendment will change how we deal with people who come up like this,” she continued. “That’s what I want.”

    Back in October, Goldberg claimed that she would not be allowed to speak about people the way that Trump does.

    “I have a big question about all of this because something’s been bothering me,” Goldberg said, according to Mediaite. “Why can he continue to threaten judges, threaten AGs, and threaten just people? Now, I understand that some folks say it’s freedom of speech, but if I did that, they would not consider it freedom of speech.”

    “So why does he get to continue to threaten? And it’s threats like he did with January 6th. He basically said, ‘Come after her,’” she added. “He didn’t say exactly those words, but I don’t know how else you can take those words. But why is he continuously allowed to do that when none of us would be able to do it?”

    Joy Behar Wants Trump To Be ‘Locked Up Already’

    Goldberg isn’t the only co-host on “The View” who wants Trump to be put in jail. Earlier this year, Joy Behar said on “The View” that Trump should be “locked up already.”

    “He’s a grifter. He’s a grifter,” she said of Trump, according to Daily Mail. “Lock him up already. Lock him up.”

    “Nixon was caught on tape and that was the end of his career as president,” she continued. “This guy is caught on tape talking about grabbing women’s genitalia – he didn’t learn from that or from Nixon and now he’s continuing to tape himself. That is really the definition of stupidity.”

    Nineties-era fashion is back in full force, but one of Whoopi Goldberg‘s outfits from 1993 has been haunting her all these years.

    Goldberg attended the 1993 Academy Awards in support of her turn in The Color Purple, rocking a metallic brocade jumpsuit in an allover seafoam and purple print, topping the look off with a shiny purple and lime green jacket-cape-open-front-skirt. At the Fashion Group International Night of Stars gala Tuesday evening, where she was honored with the American Icon Award, Goldberg reflected to Page Six Style that “everyone hated” that look, landing her on Worst-Dressed lists the next morning.

    “It hurt my feelings, I’m not going to lie. It hurt my feelings,” she said. Though she said she “absolutely” stands by her choice to wear the ensemble, she did let the reaction impact how she dressed for events after that. “It kept me from dressing up for a very long time. You have to remember, in those days, they would say things and you’d think, ‘Do I really look that ridiculous?’”

    Goldberg, who has since founded her own fashion line, called DUBGEE, and delights in displaying unique fashion finds like her infamous decapitated Barbie-filled platform shoes and high-heeled Crocs on her Instagram and on air, said that look was inspired by I Love Lucy star Lucille Ball’s bold sartorial choices.

    “Lucy would always come out in these great ensembles,” she said. “And I thought, I would like to wear that! And green is not a color I would normally wear; let me try it!”

    Whoopi Goldberg isn’t a lesbian, she’s just played one on TV.

    While appearing on Raven-Symoné and wife Miranda Pearman-Maday’s podcast, The Best Podcast Ever with Raven & Miranda, Goldberg took the hosts up on an opportunity to say who, exactly, Whoopi makes whoopie with. In the episode, published Monday, Raven-Symoné told her former The View co-host that “you just kind of gave me lesbian vibes” when they worked together, adding that “I just wanted to be up underneath the titty the whole time.” Cozy, right? “You give me lesbian vibes, you give me, like, stud vibes.”

    The vibes, however, are off.

    “Women have been asking me this for as long as I’ve been around,” Goldberg said. “I am not a lesbian, but I know lots of them, and I’ve played them on television, you know. But I you know, I have always had lesbian friends because they’re just my friends, you know.”

    Goldberg also spoke on the topic of legislation and protests aiming to limit things like drag shows and same-sex marriage. Sure, disagree, don’t like it, whatever, she said—but leave them alone.

    “Even when you know you don’t agree, then don’t go. Don’t engage,” she said. “No one is forcing anyone to go and participate. You don’t dig drag queens, then don’t go to a drag show. You don’t like gay marriage, don’t go to a gay wedding. You are not obligated in this country to do anything you are not comfortable doing. I don’t see why I understand that, and you don’t.”

    And, of course, it wouldn’t be an interview with the 67-year-old Goldberg if toots didn’t come up. Once again, the comedian confirmed, yes, her stage name (real name: Caryn Elaine Johnson, but only her mom, brother, and people who have known her since second grade call her Caryn, she said) is a play on a fart sound.

    “It came from me being a champion farter,” she said. And that, straight from Goldberg’s mouth, is anything but hot air.

    During the conversion, the “That’s So Raven” alum recalled working alongside Goldberg when she joined “The View” for a one-season stint in 2015.

    “The View” co-host weighed in on Wednesday on the show’s influence just days after 18-year-old Hawaii-born singer Iam Tongi won season 21.

    “We, as a society, love to watch stuff to judge folks. You know, I’ve always thought that the beginning of the downfall of society was with… what’s the name of that show? I always tell you that,” said Goldberg as she looked over to Teta.

    “ABC’s American Idol,” replied Teta before the audience let out a laugh.

    Goldberg, who pointed out that the show began on Fox, went on to explain her take on the competition.

    “Because once we gave people the ability to judge other people, I think we ran amuck with it and it’s gone out of control,” said Goldberg.

    “Remember ‘The Gong Show’?” said co-host Joy Behar in reference to a show that allowed judges to hit a gong to signal their distaste for a performance.

    Goldberg clarified that she doesn’t remember an instance where “so many people” judged a person’s talent before Teta, and co-host Sunny Hostin, added that Goldberg likes the show now that it’s on ABC – the same network that airs “The View.”

    “American Idol” – which debuted nearly 21 years ago on Fox – has notably relied on public participation since its inception, whether through call, text or online vote.

    But the show isn’t the first to lean on at-home audience participation as the “The Original Amateur Hour” – a continuation of Major Bowes’ “Amateur Hour” radio program which brought Frank Sinatra and his Hoboken Four quartet to a national stage – relied on viewers’ votes by phone and postcard.

    Whoopi Goldberg melted the hearts of an on-screen congregation, as well as a generation of moviegoers, in 1992’s “Sister Act.” However, a different diva nearly played the lead in the beloved musical comedy.

    Appearing on the “Just for Variety” podcast Tuesday, Bette Midler revealed that studio executives sought her for the role of Deloris Van Cartier ― aka Sister Mary Clarence ― which ultimately went to Goldberg.

    “They came to me with ‘Sister Act’ and I said, ‘My fans don’t want to see me in a wimple.’ Can you believe that?” Midler said. Former Walt Disney Studios Chair “Jeffrey Katzenberg called me every day: ‘Please, please.’”

    Midler, a three-time Grammy winner and two-time Academy Award nominee, had already showcased her acting chops in a number of movies, including 1979’s “The Rose” and 1988’s “Beaches,” by the time “Sister Act” began production. Still, she wouldn’t be swayed.

    “I stood my ground because I really was afraid of the costume,” she recalled. “Whoopi wore it all the way to the bank. So God bless her. And she was perfect for it.”

    But Sister Mary Clarence wasn’t the only iconic character that Midler didn’t think was a fit. She said she was also considered for the killer role of Annie Wilkes in the 1990 film adaptation of Stephen King’s “Misery.” That part went to Kathy Bates, who received an Academy Award for her portrayal of the diabolical nurse who holds a bestselling novelist (played by James Caan) hostage.

    “I just couldn’t. It was too violent,” Midler explained. “The character was so not funny, so without any qualities of redemption.”

    In the years since the release of “Sister Act,” the Divine Miss M has continued to rack up an impressive list of acting credits, including 1995’s “The First Wives Club” and 2012’s “Parental Guidance.”

    Last fall, she reunited with Kathy Naijimy and Sarah Jessica Parker in the Disney+ hit “Hocus Pocus 2,” the long-awaited sequel to the 1993 Halloween favorite. And later this month, she’ll be presented with the distinguished collaborator award at the 2023 Costume Designers Guild Awards in recognition of her screen and stage work.

    As to what projects she’d like to tackle next, Midler said she would join HBO’s “The White Lotus” cast “in a New York minute.”

    “[Writer-director] Mike White pokes fun at the worst kind of people, the truly entitled and rich people behaving badly,” she told Variety. “Everybody likes to see them get their comeuppance. I really enjoy that. It’s the great saga of the haves and the have-nots, which is eternal.”

    On Friday, Whoopi Goldberg appeared on the “Loose Women” talk show, and when she was asked about the planned “Sister Act 3”, she brought up the legendary actress.

    “I want to let Maggie Smith know that I’m holding the part of Mother Superior for you, because I just can’t do it with anybody but you,” Goldberg said, appealing directly to the 88-year-old.

    “So, if you need me to come over here and shoot it and do whatever we have to do, we will do whatever you want us to do,” she continued. “But we don’t want to do it without you, Maggie.”

    Smith co-starred in both 1992’s “Sister Act” and the 1993 sequel, along with Goldberg.

    The question “are Jews white?” is a considerably loaded one, but most reasonable people would agree that the Nazis who created the Nuremberg Laws and devised the so-called “final solution to the Jewish question” considered the six million Jews who died in mass shootings, gas vans, and at extermination factories like Auschwitz-Birkenau to be of a different race. The United States Holocaust National Museum’s resource page refers to the Holocaust as being “driven by racist ideology” and details how around two of every three European Jews were killed in the Holocaust.

    Following the February segment, Goldberg was temporarily suspended by ABC and The View for two weeks. Her comments aired just a few weeks after a crazed gunman in Fort Worth, Texas held hostages inside a synagogue for 11 hours. She later semi-apologized in a since-deleted tweet, saying that “As Jonathan Greenblatt of the Anti-Defamation League shared, ‘The Holocaust was about the Nazi’s systematic annihilation of the Jewish people–who they deemed to be an inferior race.’ I stand corrected.”

    She added: “The Jewish people around the world have always had my support and that will never waiver. I’m sorry for the hurt I have caused.”

    In remarks at a 2011 charity event, Goldberg reportedly called her adopted last name “wonderful for starting conversations,” and said, “I just know I am Jewish. I practice nothing. I don’t go to temple, but I do remember the holidays. Religion is a lot of work, it’s exhausting.”

    This latest chapter emerged from an interview Goldberg gave with the Times of London, promoting the movie Till, in which she plays the grandmother of the slain teen Emmett Till. She is also one of the film’s producers. When the conversation came back to whether being Jewish was a racial or religious distinction, the interviewer said that to the Nazis, it certainly was racial. “That’s the killer, isn’t it?” Goldberg responded. “The oppressor is telling you what you are. Why are you believing them? They’re Nazis. Why believe what they’re saying?”

    She added, “Not for nothing is there no box on the census for the Jewish race. So that leads me to believe that we’re probably not a race.”

    She continued, saying that “you could not tell a Jew on the street,” which is a starkly untrue thing to say about the time of Nazi occupation, in which Jews were forced to wear an identifying yellow star on their clothing. 

    Goldberg referred to the initial controversy by saying that “you would have thought that I’d taken a big old stinky dump on the table, butt naked.”

    Whoopi Goldberg is correcting the record after a review of her new film, “Till,” purported that Goldberg was wearing a fat suit during filming.

    In a mixed review, a Daily Beast reporter mentions Goldberg only once, writing that Goldberg was “in a distracting fat suit” for her role as Emmett Till’s grandmother. The review has since been edited to omit that line and features an editor’s note.

    “I don’t really care how you felt about the movie, but you should know that was not a fat suit,” Goldberg said on Monday’s episode of “The View.” “That was me. That was steroids.”

    Goldberg was referring to the health challenges she experienced last year with sciatica, a type of nerve pain, for which she was hospitalized and started using a walker. She said on “The View” that at the time, she was taking steroids, which can be used to treat sciatica symptoms.

    “It’s OK to not be a fan of the movie, but you want to leave people’s looks out,” Goldberg said.

    It’s not uncommon for a popular and awarded actress in a prestigious film to wear a fat suit, though. Plenty of stars have donned fat suits, sometimes in demeaning ways. From Gwyneth Paltrow as an obese woman in 2001’s “Shallow Hal” to Sarah Paulson as Linda Tripp in last year’s “American Crime Story: Impeachment,” the actors inside the fat suits are often not fat. Men, too, have worn fat suits, largely in comedic roles, including John Travolta in “Hairspray,” Ryan Reynolds in “Just Friends” and Eddie Murphy in “Norbit.”

    This year alone has seen a surge of famous actors wearing fat suits: Renée Zellweger in “The Thing About Pam” and Tom Hanks in “Elvis” are two examples of Oscar winners who have worn fat suits for roles. Emma Thompson wears one in the musical adaptation of “Matilda” due out later this year, and in the awards season vehicle “The Whale,” Brendan Fraser plays an obese man at the end of his life under several pounds of prostheses.

    Viewers often criticize the practice, particularly when a filmmaker chooses not to cast an actor whose body type already matches that of the character. In a recent interview with the New York Times, retired professor and media researcher J. Kevin Thompson said that uses of fat suits in media – particularly when the characters portrayed by actors in fat suits are made fun of or portrayed in an unflattering light – can be psychologically damaging to viewers and that women disproportionately incur most of that damage.

    “These roles were most often associated with ‘humor,’ which, of course, might not be so funny if one were the butt of the joke,” Thompson told the Times.

    For its part, “Till” ostensibly does not feature actors in fat suits. The film, which focuses on Mamie Till’s activism and her contributions to the civil rights movement after the murder of her son, Emmett, will be released on October 14.
