I Went to a Parisian Friend’s Birthday Party—7 Trends I Saw Among the Crowd

    [ad_1]

One of my friends is a proud French woman who spends her time floating between New York City and Paris. Her style is impeccable, and although she’s spent a lot of time in the U.S., she definitely has not lost that French-girl flair. She invited me to her birthday party, and the crowd’s sense of style absolutely exceeded my expectations.

If you ever have the opportunity to attend a French person’s birthday party, expect the unexpected. Did I think I’d spot a poplin shirtdress on her maman? Absolutely not. Did I expect leggings paired with a sequin top? Of course not. Is my shopping cart filled to the brim after this party? You guessed it. Below, find the seven trends I saw among the crowd at this birthday celebration.

  • The Flat-Shoe Trend Fashion People Wear With Every Type of Outfit

The Flat-Shoe Trend Fashion People Wear With Every Type of Outfit

    [ad_1]

There are a few key shoe silhouettes that seemingly every fashion person I know owns (myself included). I’m referring to loafers. It makes sense given the inherently elevated nature of the trend as well as the comfort aspect. Loafers are incredibly versatile and can actually be dressed up or down because of their easy yet polished feel. As a result, style setters wear loafers with basically every type of outfit—from casual ensembles to more dressed-up looks.

To showcase some of the chicest loafer outfits I’ve seen recently, I combed through my Saved folder on Instagram and pulled out standout looks featuring loafers. As you’ll notice, there’s a variety of outfit types coming your way. If you’re in the mood to shop, there are also product recommendations for each ensemble in question.

I’ve Officially Entered My Dark Nail Era—15 Moody Shades I Can’t Stop Wearing

    [ad_1]

Before we jump to conclusions, let’s get one thing straight. I’ll never abandon neutral nail colors. Whether it’s a classic nude manicure or a pretty, pearl shade we’re talking about, I’ll admit that neutrals tend to suit any season or situation. I’ll also admit that they can elongate the look of my stubby fingers. So, yes, I like them. I’m just not that into them right now

That’s because, lately, I’ve been having a not-so-subtle love affair with dark nail colors. I’m talking about brooding shades of oxblood red, midnight blue, espresso brown, and inky black. I’m not picky. As long as it’s moody and mysterious, I’m in. It’s gotten to the point where I haven’t touched my neutral nail colors in weeks. They’re just sitting in my drawer, collecting dust. And I hate to say it, but that’s where they’re going to stay for the foreseeable future. Ahead, see 15 nail colors that will convince you to join the dark side (of manicures, that is).

In 2024, We’re Having Fun With Makeup: A Celeb Artist Shares Her 3 Best Tips

    [ad_1]

In 2023, minimalist makeup was *the* trend. Call it the reverse-Euphoria effect, but my TikTok and Instagram feeds were full of no-makeup makeup looks. Don’t get me wrong. As a beauty editor, I can appreciate a minimalist makeup look. In fact, my daily makeup routine is minimal. However, throughout the year, the excitement started to wear off, and fatigue started to set in. I began to miss the variety, the maximalism, and the color.

Lucky for me, the tides are turning. More and more people are dusting off their bright and bold products to—get this—bring an element of fun back to their makeup routines. Now, the minimalist looks that used to dominate my feed are sprinkled with expressive and eye-catching looks, and there are only more on their way.

That’s all well and good, but casually picking up a colorful eye shadow palette is intimidating for a lot of people, especially if they went without color for an entire year (or longer). That’s why I turned to celebrity makeup artist Jo Baker. She’s an expert at creating colorful makeup looks for clients that include the likes of Lucy Boynton, Olivia Wilde, Vanessa Kirby, and more. Ahead, she shares her best tips for incorporating color into your makeup routine.

  • I’m a Jewelry Expert—5 Trends You’re Going to See Everywhere in 2024

    I’m a Jewelry Expert—5 Trends You’re Going to See Everywhere in 2024

    [ad_1]

There was always something a bit special about rummaging through my grandmother’s jewelry drawer when I was a child, picking through earlobe-numbing chunky studs and gaudy yet nostalgic clip-on earrings. The world felt infinite in my mother’s heels and my grandmother’s gold-knot jewelry when I was 10. For Heaven Mayhem founder Pia Mance, her late grandmother’s vintage jewelry isn’t just gold-plated goodness to put on with a little black dress on her way to cocktails with friends—it has grown into a multimillion-dollar empire.

You may have caught a glimpse of Heaven Mayhem, the jewelry and accessory line started by Mance in 2022, on your feed, whether it be on the ears of your college best friends or your celebrity parasocial besties. Hailey Bieber, Matilda DjerfAimee Song, and Justine Skye are all fans, so naturally, the brand has only blown up in the last few years thanks to its massive star backing and viral-worthy covets on social media. Before Heaven Mayhem was Heaven Mayhem, though, Mance started off the same as all of us: slowly going through her mother’s and grandmother’s old things.

“Growing up, I loved going through my mum’s closet and rummaging through her clothes, shoes, tights, but I was always very drawn toward the accessory selection, as she held on to a lot of my late grandmother’s pieces from the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s,” Mance tells me. “Those pieces weren’t designer or anything, but they were all so well-made, timeless, and special to me. To be able to create similar pieces like that, which I really resonate with, holds a special meaning in my heart.”

Minimalism Is on Its Way Out, But Revenge Makeup Is Here to Stay

    [ad_1]

I’ll fully admit that I’ve never been able to easily execute a full glam makeup look. As simple as makeup artists (and random everyday people, for that matter) on TikTok make it seem, I always find that my own version of a look comes out, well, not so *glam.* I usually stick to a more minimal, toned-down look that complements my features, but there’s a new trend sweeping TikTok that made me sit up and pay attention.

Revenge makeup is all about making a statement without doing a full beat. This I can get on board with because it errs on the side of natural but still adds a bold touch or two to the look that doesn’t require next-level skill or too much extra time. It also aims to make you feel confident, and if you just happen to run into an ex, you’ll be fully prepared. I tapped celebrity makeup artist Tobi Henney to give me some tips on how to create a look like this. Take a look below at what her idea of revenge makeup is plus a few products she loves for executing the look.

We’ve been fans of Emma Stone since Superbad, so we’re elated to see that the Poor Things star and Oscar contender is having a truly spectacular award season.

Recently, the longtime Louis Vuitton ambassador wore one of our favorite winter staples—the camel coat—over chic LV separates to an appearance on Good Morning America in NYC. Primed for the frigid winter weather, Stone’s wool coat and suede boots added both warmth and tonal variety to her otherwise simple button-down shirt and midi skirt.

Fortunately for us Poor Things, this outfit combo can be executed with everything from designer separates to casual contemporary brands. Ahead, shop coats, shirts, midi skirts, and boots to re-create Stone’s head-turning daytime look—it’s super good

Dua Lipa Wore the Ideal Jeans-and-Flats Outfit for a Day Date With Callum Turner

    [ad_1]

Dua Lipa is a fashion fixture on the Grammys red carpet every single year, and I have no doubt that she’ll bring her A game for the awards this Sunday. I’m waiting with bated breath to see what she’ll choose to wear, but in the meantime, let’s chat a bit about her off-duty style because it’s also worth noting.

Photographed in Los Angeles with Masters of the Air star Callum Turner, Lipa wore the ideal jeans-and-flats outfit for a daytime date. Specifically, she wore a black-and-white Chanel tank top, Celine jeans, a Bottega Veneta Gemelli Medium Bag ($4100), and Alaïa Mesh and Patent-Leather Ballet Flats ($1024). That’s certainly a lot of luxury brands, but the overall look is something you can easily re-create on a non-designer budget. Sofia Richie Wore the Earring Trend Fashion People Are Ditching Dainty Studs For

    [ad_1]

Now that Sofia Richie has announced her pregnancy to the world, we have her maternity outfits to look forward to. She’s already treated us to several looks this week, including her first red carpet appearance since announcing. Richie walked the red carpet with her husband Elliot Grainge for a pre-Grammys event in L.A., and as to be expected, her look was wildly chic.

Richie wore a black off-the-shoulder blazer and trousers paired with black slingback heels. What really made the ensemble were her earrings, which were right in step with one of the biggest jewelry trends of the upcoming season. Hello, ’80s-inspired earrings—goodbye, delicate and dainty earrings. Richie’s oversize square earrings were reminiscent of the glamorous, statement-making earrings of the decade. The bold onyx-and-gold earrings provided a perfect contrast to her subdued outfit. Take notes because pairing ’80s earrings with low-key outfits is the best way to ensure that your look doesn’t come across as costumey.

With that, read on to shop ’80s-inspired earrings for yourself.

  • It’s Official: These Coveted Perfumes Prove Rose Has Outgrown Its Grandma Label

It’s Official: These Coveted Perfumes Prove Rose Has Outgrown Its Grandma Label

    [ad_1]

As recently as a year or so ago, the thought of rose perfume immediately made my nose wrinkle. Bags of potpourri, heady bouquets of red roses, and, sorry, my dear Grandma Evelyn’s powdery-pink cardigans came to mind. Of course, all of the above are lovely and nostalgic in their own special ways, but the sampling isn’t exactly what I’m going for when I’m searching for a new signature scent or when I’m reaching for a perfume pre-date. But then, something weird happened. Suddenly, almost every new fragrance launch I received featured rose as its MVP, and I found that I liked each new fragrance better than the last.

So, long story short, I’m now infatuated with rose perfumes, and in addition to rediscovering the cult classics that definitely aren’t old-fashioned, plenty of the most coveted perfume houses have been debuting new iterations of the floral scent. Some are balanced with citrus or juicy stone fruits, while others veer warm and spicy thanks to musks, pepper, or vanilla. Regardless, some of the absolute best perfumes on the market right now put rose front and center as their compliment-inducing It factor. There are plenty more where this comes from, but below, I’m sharing 13 standout rose perfumes that absolutely disprove the notion that rose is old-fashioned or reserved for grandparents only. Keep scrolling!

  • This “Weird” Makeup Product Is the Industry’s Best-Kept Secret for Stunning Eyes

This “Weird” Makeup Product Is the Industry’s Best-Kept Secret for Stunning Eyes

    [ad_1]

The beauty of makeup is the freedom it allows us to experiment with and try any and every look under the sun. We’re big proponents of breaking worn-out “rules” and wearing whatever strikes our fancy, but when it comes to choosing the colored mascaras that will best enhance our eye color, there is some strategy.

As a rule of thumb, Scott says cool tones like blue, green, or violet contrast with brown eyes for a natural brightening effect. They’ll bring out the depth of hazel eyes, and they can also make blue or green eyes appear deeper and/or vibrant

If you’re keen to try a colored mascara that’s on the warmer side, Scott explains shades like burgundy or plum will add depth to brown eyes, contrast with hazel eyes to make them morph to green, and bring a subtle vibrance to eyes that are green or blue. Last but not least, lighter and brighter shades of mascara (think pink, aquamarine, orange, etc.) all wield different yet equally spell-binding kinds of magic. “They contrast with different eyes and skin tones in different ways, but ultimately, they still provide an unexpected pop of color for contrast,” Scott concludes.

6 Pretty Spring Shoe Trends That Will Fly Out of Stock First

    [ad_1]

Feel free to disagree with me, but I find the best thing about spring fashion is the shoes. It’s the prettiest season of the year for shoe trends and a welcome change from boots once the snow and ice melt. This probably has something to do with why designers lean into “prettiness” when dreaming up their shoes for spring. We’re all ready for it. See you in November, brown suede boots!

Given my deep-rooted shoe obsession, I was quite happy to spend a couple of hours scrolling through spring 2024 runway images in search of the prettiest shoes. I spotted a few themes while I was at it, and the below trends I’m highlighting are so pretty and wearable that I’m sure they’ll sell out in a flash. So before that happens, keep scrolling to shop some of the best pairs for each pretty trend. You’ll thank me when the compliments start rolling in.

6 Runway Looks I Plan on Re-Creating During NYFW

    [ad_1]

It’s almost that time of year again. Yep, we’re on the heels of New York Fashion Week, and I, for one, have already been planning my looks for weeks on end. As an NYC-based fashion editor, this is my Super Bowl, so to speak, so naturally I’ve been curating my mood board and collecting outfit inspiration like it’s my job. (Well, it sort of is!) While attending shows and presentations is at its core, the week is also a great opportunity to dial things up in the outfit department to test-drive the latest trends and hopefully get snapped by a street style photographer or two.

This season, I plan on doing exactly that. I like to take outfit formulas I already wear regularly, e.g., skirts and sweaters or trousers and blazers, and make them feel more forward and dramatic for the week so I’m making a statement but still feel like me. I’ve pored over the spring 2024 collections for months to inform all the trend reports you’re reading on Who What Wear, but I’ve also been silently socking away my personal favorites into a folder titled “fashion week looks to re-create.” I don’t usually divulge the contents of said folder, but in the spirit of sharing, I thought I’d clue you in on the New York Fashion Week outfit ideas I plan on emulating to attend the fall 2024 shows and the items I’m shopping to do so.
