CORRECTION: Rythmia Life Advancement Center Partners with Nicoya Macaw Project to Repopulate Costa Rica’s Scarlet Macaw Population

The partnership aims to repopulate the scarlet macaw in Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula, with select habitats to be located on-site at Rythmia.

    Press Release

    Jul 19, 2022

Rythmia Life Advancement Center, an all-inclusive, medically licensed plant medicine center located in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, announces a partnership with Nicoya Macaw Project to support its effort to repopulate Costa Rica’s declining scarlet macaw population in the Nicoya Peninsula.

The Nicoya Macaw Project model farm, located in San José Pinilla, has an adequate hatchery space for the preservation of macaws. The farm is home to roughly 20 pairs of macaws and intends to release 30 per year back into the wild. In 10 years, Nicoya Macaw Project estimates the reintroduction of over 300 macaws back into the wild. Rythmia will work with the Nicoya Macaw Project team to develop additional eco-friendly and sustainable habitats to revitalize local macaw populations.

“Through the partnership, we’ll be able to better protect and set up new homes for the macaws, with two nests located onsite at the resort,” said Gerard Armond Powell, CEO of Rythmia Life Advancement Center. “Rythmia is an ideal habitat, offering a secluded, tropical location with the peace of mind that comes with proper security. We are thrilled to work with Nicoya Macaw Project to create a space dedicated specifically for these birds’ care and facilitate the repopulation of the species.”

Although it is not on the list of endangered species, the scarlet macaw population has seen a significant decrease in the past several decades. The decline of the scarlet macaw in the region is largely attributed to two factors: the capture of birds for sale and deforestation.

“Unfortunately, years in captivity and human dependence mean many scarlet macaws can never be returned to the wild,” said Ismael Carranza Ortiz, Tropical Biologist with the Nicoya Macaw Project. “However, they will be instrumental in our efforts to repopulate the species, as young birds can be released after adapting to the climate and surrounding area. We are planning to accomplish the controlled reproduction utilizing two areas on the resort property set aside specifically for the macaws.”

A new generation of macaws is released once they are old enough to have an independent life and have acclimated to the area. Birds are released in Avellanas Beach and their development is closely monitored via identification chips to ensure the continuity of the species. Macaws are completely monogamous, remain in pairs for life, and can live up to 75 to 80 years.

    Press Release

    Jul 15, 2022

First H.E.L.P. and FirstNet®, Built with AT&T, have teamed up to provide first responders in communities throughout America with a world-class mental health resource through First H.E.L.P.’s week long #MissionReadyRetreats

Each #MissionReadyRetreats provides up to 15 First Responders from across the nation the opportunity to come together for a seven-day resilience-building retreat. The program emphasizes what First H.E.L.P. calls the 3Ps of Responder Readiness: Performance, Persistence, and Prevention. Thanks to FirstNet – Built with AT&T, First Responders can participate in this incredible opportunity at absolutely no cost to the agency or the individual.

Using individual mindfulness practices, facilitated discussions, and group activities, the retreat provides more than 48 hours of structured learning and development events. #ResponderReadiness explores how stress impacts their lives, how to build resilience, and how to communicate more effectively at work and home. During Alternative Stress Learning, the group participates in an activity such as leatherworking or woodworking to explore a healthy stress coping practice. Mindfulness practices, journaling, healthy meals, and fireside conversations round out the curriculum.  Participants also practice healthy rest and sleep habits. They detach from the digital world and immerse themselves into a healthy environment.

“Our nation’s first responders work tirelessly, selflessly serving their communities. That day-to-day grind takes a toll on their physical, emotional, and mental well-being,” says Robert Winner, First H.E.L.P.’s Retreat Director. He goes on to say, “We have designed this retreat in a way that combines research-based instruction on developing resilience and healthy living with an opportunity to recharge and reset in a peer-based environment. When participants leave the retreat and return to their Agencies, they will be ‘Mission Ready!’”

The organization conducted their first #MissionReadinessRetreats in May and has two more scheduled for 2022.  #MRREast: Charles Town, WV, July 21-27 and #MRRWest: Cle Elum, WA, October 23-28. Interested? Register on First H.E.L.P.’s website: 1sthelp.org/mission-ready-retreats/

Alphagreen Group Acquires 96North, a 100% Natural Aromatherapy Brand With Eye on Further Acquisitions

    [ad_1]

96North acquisition is Alphagreen Group’s entrance into the Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) market. The aromatherapy sector is a natural next stage for the wellness-focused house of brands. Alphagreen will utilise its NUOPTIMA service arm to optimise growth.

    Press Release

    Jul 12, 2022

Alphagreen Group, a house of brands focused on the health and wellness e-commerce sector, has acquired organic aromatherapy candle brand 96North.

Alphagreen Group has a growing portfolio of brands within the wellness niche and is looking to increase their acquisition pipeline as other aggregators have decreased their acquisitions. 96North is a US-grown brand that recently expanded into the UK. They have been selling on the Amazon platform since 2020 and rank in the top 1% of jar candles.

96North is currently on track to achieve 260% growth in the 12 months after acquisition. With an increase in stock and marketing spend, which Alphagreen were keen to provide, the brand can successfully scale on Amazon and within other channels. Since the acquisition, 96North has doubled in the number of customer reviews on the Amazon platform, which is a vital algorithmic element for organic ranking.

With Alphagreen Group’s focus on consumer wellness areas of sleep, pain, and anxiety, the aromatherapy niche is naturally a sector of interest for the house of brands. Alphagreen is also committed to providing sustainable and environmentally safe products to answer the ethical requirements of the modern wellness consumer. The group has a pipeline of new products to be launched to extend 96North’s presence in the aromatherapy market including reed diffusers, mists and several more.

Alphagreen Group’s growth optimisation service arm, NUOPTIMA, is the driving force behind Alphagreen’s brand acquisition and incubation strategy. The team has already helped just under 100 brands deliver improvements and revenue growth on Amazon and platforms such as Google, Facebook and Tik Tok. Fulfilment operations in the UK and Europe will allow the brand to further scale its DTC and omnichannel presence in the US, UK and EU markets.

Alphagreen Founder and CEO Alexej Pikovsky said: “96North is a proud addition to our portfolio and we are excited to explore the potential this brand has for further product offerings in the home fragrance and aromatherapy niche. Alphagreen Group has been waiting for the right strategic acquisition before entering the Amazon FBA market and, after deep due diligence of over 40 brands, we know 96North has the solid yearly growth figures and a strong category presence to align with our initial goals. As a house of brands with a tech-enabled business service under our umbrella, we are uniquely positioned and have the specialist capability to bring acquired brands to market and effectively scale quickly.”

Pikovsky predicts that due to the upcoming changes to privacy regulations, and the rising costs of social advertising, Amazon will become a fundamental channel for DTC brands in the future. 96North is the first of the Group’s strategic acquisitions within the Amazon FBA arena.

    Press Release

    Jul 11, 2022

First H.E.L.P. and FirstNet®, Built with AT&T, have teamed up to provide first responders in communities throughout Arizona with world-class mental health training through First H.E.L.P.’s #ResponderReadiness Workshop Series.

On July 18-20 Chandler Police Department will host a series of Mental Health and Wellness Workshops for area First Responders. First H.E.L.P. will provide two 4-hour #ResponderReadiness Workshops where participants explore the impact that operational stress and trauma has on their careers and families.  They will use scenario-based training to practice difficult conversations about mental health and suicide prevention and they learn to practice First H.E.L.P.’s R.A.N.G.E. of Resilience. In addition to the two #ResponderReadiness workshops, there is a 4-hour #SupervisorReadiness Workshop for managers and a 4-hour #ProviderReadiness Workshop for area Mental Health Providers who serve First Responders.

According to First H.E.L.P.’s CEO and Co-Founder, Dr. Jeffrey McGill, “Providing awareness and practical tools can help first responders perform at their best throughout their career, benefitting the responder, their family, their agency, and the community they serve.”

Since 2016, First H.E.L.P. has consistently tracked law enforcement suicides throughout the nation and in 2021, opened their efforts to include all first responders. The State of Arizona has lost at least 18 First Responders to suicide since 2017.

AT&T is working to ease the burden for communities by providing high-quality training to Arizona first responders at no cost. FirstNet is the only nationwide, high-speed broadband communications platform dedicated to and purpose-built for America’s first responders and the extended public safety community. Shaped by the vision of Congress and the first responder community following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, FirstNet is built with AT&T in public-private partnership with the First Responder Network Authority, an independent agency within the federal government.

“AT&T’s commitment to our public safety community goes beyond our FirstNet network connectivity,” said Dr. Anna Courie, DPN, RN, PHNA-BC, Director, Responder Wellness, FirstNet Program at AT&T. “We are dedicated to working with First H.E.L.P. to bring mental health resources to first responders across the country—especially in rural areas with limited access. This program with First H.E.L.P. will better equip first responders mentally and physically and help our public safety community stay safer.”

The training program reinforces the strategic priorities established by the FirstNet Health and Wellness Coalition (FNHWC) to support first responders and their families. The mission of the FNHWC is to integrate responder, community, industry, and academic capabilities to support the health, wellness, and readiness of American first responders.

SinuSonic Announces Presentation of Double-Blind, Sham-Controlled Trial Data Showing Regular Use of the Device Improved Nasal Congestion

    [ad_1]

New technology provides non-prescription, non-addictive, mess-free alternative to relieve congestion and runny nose

    Press Release

    May 26, 2022

SinuSonic, a brand of Healthy Humming, LLC, is pleased to announce the presentation of the results from their study on “Double-blind, sham-controlled trial of a novel device for the treatment of viral upper respiratory tract infection.” This study was discussed during an oral podium presentation at the American Rhinological Society Spring meeting in Dallas, Texas, on April 28-29, 2022. This study showed, with the highest level of evidence, a randomized sham-controlled study that regular use of the active SinuSonic device improved nasal congestion.

The prospective study was conducted at the Medical University of South Carolina in 2020-2021. Administration of acoustic vibration and oscillating expiratory positive pressure with SinuSonic has been shown in a prior study to improve nasal congestion and air flow. These interventions are hypothesized to release nasal nitric oxide, a molecule with known antiviral properties. The current study investigated the use of this device to prevent viral upper respiratory infections (URI) and reduce the severity and duration of rhinologic symptoms.

Asymptomatic community-dwelling adults were randomized to receive an active or a sham device (3:1). Subjects used the assigned device twice daily beginning at the start of the fall URI season. A validated metric of viral URI symptoms, Total Symptoms Score (TSS), was assessed each day for 8 weeks.

    Topline outcomes:

    • Those using the active device had 70% more days with no nasal congestion (57.2% vs 33.5%, p= 0.033)
    • A statistically significant difference in nasal congestion score was seen between the active and sham groups (0.503 vs. 0.843, = 0.036)
    • No subject in either the active or sham group developed symptoms meeting the study definition of a viral URI, likely due to viral precautions during the pandemic.
    • No major adverse events were detected, with 97.5% of subjects reporting zero pain or discomfort at the study conclusion.

    ABOUT NASAL CONGESTION

Chronic nasal congestion impacts roughly 20% of the population and is associated with reduced quality of life, difficulty sleeping, reduced daytime performance, and increased healthcare utilization. It has been estimated that the financial impact of chronic nasal congestion is more than $5 – 10 billion annually. A survey conducted by Allergies in Americas found that despite the availability of pharmacologic options, many patients are not satisfied with available options.

CT-Based Startup Creates HomeField – the First Fitness Platform for All Abilities

    [ad_1]

    Press Release

    May 24, 2022

When one thinks of being inclusive, do they consider those with disabilities and special needs? This is the question Daniel Caridi, Co-Founder of HomeField, asks when sharing the company’s story. Several years ago, Caridi and his Co-Founder, Gage DeDominicis, started volunteering at a local gym teaching fitness to about five people with special needs and disabilities. Mondays and Thursdays quickly became the highlights of their week. Due to rising concerns about the pandemic, they turned to online classes. Just in their immediate area, classes skyrocketed to 80+ people engaged and working out. If they could have that kind of impact locally, imagine what could be done on a national scale. That’s when Daniel and Gage realized they were onto something.

Their mission? To create a sustainable business that positively impacts the world.

HomeField‘s mission? To create fun and meaningful experiences that inspire inclusion and build trust together.

It was then that the first online health and wellness platform designed for all abilities was born. HomeField.fit serves people with physical disabilities, special needs, older adults, and anyone who does not have easy access to fitness and wellness content that fits their needs. The platform offers 100+ on-demand classes as well as daily live stream classes in dance, martial arts, yoga, mindfulness and more.

They hired international fitness guru, Billy Blanks Jr., to manage and build HomeField’s catalog of online classes as President and Head of Content. “I’m excited about working with a team that is dedicated to creating a wide variety of content that is fun, easy to follow, and most importantly inclusive to all levels of abilities and ages.” The company’s CEO, Liza Rivera Salta, brings over 30 years of business experience, coupled with a passion for serving the special needs community. “It’s a community environment. We’re all the same in that we want to work out, be fit, make friends and feel included- and I think that’s a key differentiation for HomeField,” Salta emphasized.

HomeField has also partnered with the Special Olympics of CT, Abilis, a few public school systems, and corporations. Individuals are encouraged to try the platform for free by signing up at www.homefield.fit. HomeField fits everybody and helps bring fun fitness to all by moving through barriers.

Designed Specifically for Brides, The Mine Company Offers a One-Stop-Shop Offering Self-Care Solutions to Encourage A Blissful Engagement

    Press Release

    updated: Apr 20, 2021

Kerry O’Donoghue, an identical triplet and entrepreneur living in Southern California, has officially launched a new wellness and self-care brand for brides, The Mine Company. Following a toxic wedding planning experience involving her family, coupled with delays due to the pandemic, O’Donoghue felt the stress of being a bride rose to a whole new level. Her own hostile experience and bouts of malicious bullying from her sisters led O’Donoghue to design a set of self-care products to uplift a bride’s mind, body, and spirit. Today, over five thousand brides have had brighter days in their engagement through The Mine Company’s line of bridal wellness products.

“My own personal situation with my family left me feeling very unsupported. However, this negative experience truly inspired me to do something that could help and support another bride in having the idyllic engagement they should be experiencing,” says O’Donoghue, Founder of The Mine Company. “Bringing change to the wedding industry is more imperative now than ever. Brides need proper wellness in their lives, and it all starts with self-care.”

The Mine Company offers a variety of natural and non-toxic beauty, self-care, and nutritional products. Key products include Crystal Clear Carats, a natural on-the-go ring cleaning pen, Bridal Glow Vitamins, daily gummy vitamins to support stronger hair, skin, and nails, and Bouquet Toss, a moisturizing rose petal bath bomb. Brides can experience all of The Mine Company’s top bridal wellness products with a purchase of their newly launched Bridal Self-Care Box. O’Donoghue also offers complimentary handwritten gift messages with every gift purchase.

“Self-care is not always a physical practice; it is an emotional one that is necessary for brides to transition into the next stage of their life with their head held high,” said O’Donoghue. “For me, self-care meant setting boundaries. My advice to brides is to remember to focus on yourself and be your own cheerleader, and you will be glowing when you finally have your day to walk down the aisle.”

MOBI Reimagines Pride Amid Coronavirus Pandemic With ‘MOBIfest’ – the First Virtual Pride Festival for Queer Communities of Color

The NYC-Based Group Comprised of Queer Men of Color Will Curate Queer Acts and Entertainment Virtually for Its Third Year of Festival Programming

    Press Release

    updated: May 27, 2020

While Pride events around the globe have either been canceled or postponed, Mobilizing Our Brothers Initiative (MOBI) has announced that MOBIfest, its annual free wellness festival for queer communities of color, will gather audiences virtually on Thursday, June 4, at 6 p.m. ET to celebrate in the age of social distancing.

In its third year of programming, MOBI remains committed to producing one of the only free festivals focused on seeing its attendees as their holistic selves. The initiative is funded by a grant from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH) with support from community partners including GLAAD, Gilead, Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC), The New Group, Out in Tech, The National Black Justice Coalition (NBJC), New York Blood Center, SOULE, Bisi Alimi Foundation, and more.

Previously, MOBIfest was curated over three days in New York City. The festival typically launches with an opening cocktail event followed by a community art exhibition and reception, showcasing artwork submitted by queer artists of color. This all culminates in the main show with a full day of entertainment and performances. Previous headliners have included R&B heroines Dawn Richard and Sevyn Streeter.

This year, MOBI has opted to curate a lineup of queer-only talent such as Trans pop activist Mila Jam; POSE choreographer and Ballroom icon Twiggy Pucci Garçon; Miami sensation Saucy Santana; and Chicago’s rising 17-year old rapper Kidd Kenn.

In the wake of coronavirus, MOBIfest will be livestreamed on the MOBI website at mobifest.live. Despite the challenges faced by organizers, a few things remain the same: MOBI is peer-led and powered by a team of Black gay and queer men eager to carve out spaces for their community, and all the festival events are free for viewers.

“The goal for MOBI has always been to link our community with various health and wellness activities while celebrating contributions to the arts, entertainment, and culture,” says MOBI founder and GLAAD’s Program Officer, Communities of Color, DaShawn Usher. “The pandemic has negatively impacted the world, especially queer people of color, so it was even more important for us to be resilient and continue to build community because there just aren’t that many options for us. Many pride events already exclude Black and Brown bodies. MOBIfest seeks to center the most marginalized and showcase our continued resilience. “

On Thursday, June 4, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET, MOBIfest will entertain viewers with live DJ sets, comedy segments, and performances from dancers, musicians, and the house and ballroom community.

MOBIfest will also curate MOBIflix, a queer film festival on Saturday, June 6, featuring works from known directors and upcoming creators from public submissions.

Firefighter Wellness Goes High-Tech: Cordico Apps Target Stress and Trauma in the Fire Service

    [ad_1]

“The CordicoFire App puts a wealth of information and – most importantly – personal help at our firefighters’ fingertips to keep them mentally healthy,” said Fire Chief Kris Concepcion.

    Press Release

    updated: Sep 4, 2019

More than 7,000 firefighters surveyed overwhelmingly reported they’ve experienced stressful and traumatic experiences on the job, with 75% suffering ongoing mental or emotional issues as a result. As firefighters nationwide experience extreme stress, the First Responder Center for Excellence prepares to host the first-of-its-kind Fire Service Behavioral Health Symposium in Denver

Research reveals that firefighters experience elevated rates of depression, alcohol problems and repeated exposure to traumatic events resulting in sleep disorders, avoidance behaviors, and feelings of helplessness associated with PTSD. Additional symptoms of repeated traumatic exposure for firefighters include desensitization, irritability, cynicism and intrusive flashbacks. Studies also reveal that first responders often avoid seeking help for emotional problems and the majority who reach out for Employee Assistance Program support find it unhelpful.

Fire departments nationwide are looking for a strategic solution to strengthen firefighter wellness. Dixon Fire Chief Greg Lewis has achieved great success by providing his firefighters with a CordicoFire Wellness App. “The issue of mental wellness in public safety has been in a closet or ignored for far too many years,” said Chief Lewis. “By providing complete anonymity, 24/7 access, the ‘Wellness Tool Kit’ and self-assessment capabilities all from a personalized application right from a mobile phone, a large gap in the mental wellness issue has been addressed. Our staff is very grateful the City has given them this tool that can be used at any time by both the employee and their spouse.”

“We needed a proactive solution for firefighters everywhere,” said Dr. David Black, the CEO of Cordico. “Firefighters need 24/7 access to comprehensive and trusted wellness tools to manage the extreme stressors and demands they face. Our CordicoFire Apps give them powerful, on-demand tools targeting critical incidents, depression, insomnia, marital problems, trauma, suicide risk, and much more. We customize the app for departments of all sizes.”

Vacaville Fire Chief Kris Concepcion, who also provided his department with a CordicoFire Wellness App, said, “The Cordico app has been a game-changer for our fire department … I have received numerous personal ‘thank-yous’ from our firefighters since contracting with Cordico.”

Billy Goldfeder, the former Chair of the IAFC’s Safety, Health and Survival Section, has also spoken out about Cordico’s high-tech solution to strengthen firefighter wellness. “Assuring firefighters and other responders are emotionally prepared to take care of the public, when the public is having the worst day of their lives, is what keeps fire chiefs up at night – this unique and very affordable solution from Cordico benefits the firefighters, the responders, the public, and the community’s leadership. It’s truly a win-win.”

  • The Vanderpump Dog Foundation Second Annual Fundraising Gala a Huge Celebrity-Studded Success

The Vanderpump Dog Foundation Second Annual Fundraising Gala a Huge Celebrity-Studded Success

    [ad_1]

On November 9th, 2017, Lisa Vanderpump and The Vanderpump Dog Foundation hosted its second annual Gala, presented by Zappos for Good, at the Taglyan Cultural Complex in Los Angeles. The purpose of the Gala was to raise awareness about their efforts to end the dog meat trade, draw attention to their current and future campaigns within the US and raise money to continue the Foundation’s work. The Gala was a complete success – hundreds of people gathered together to celebrate dogs, and help improve the lives of abused and mistreated dogs both domestically and internationally.

The Gala’s red carpet kicked off at 6pm, with a beautiful candlelit cocktail hour and a silent auction. Celebrities and attendees bid on a variety of donated luxury items ranging from hotel stays to dog beds and luxury beauty packages. At 7:30pm the doors opened to a stunning ballroom complete with pink roses and candelabras for a dinner that included music, dancing, celebrity performances, celebrity speakers and an incredible Live Auction of one-of-a-kind experiences.

Mario Lopez, the event’s host for the second year in a row, began the evening and continued to host throughout the night. The Vanderpump Dog Foundation’s founder, Lisa Vanderpump, made a heart-wrenching and moving speech, while recapping the successes of the Foundation, including medical missions to Yulin, China, and Haiti, as well as sharing some of the incredible success stories of the 350 dogs adopted out since the Vanderpump Dog Rescue Center opened on West 3rd Street in Los Angeles in March of 2017.

The Vanderpump Dog Foundation honored former corporal Megan Leavy, presenting her with their 2017 “Dog Hero” Award for her service to both her country and the canine community. The Foundation also awarded Honey, a survivor of the Yulin Dog Meat Festival this year, as their “2017 Dog of the Year”. Honey was rescued from the Yulin Dog Meat Festival, and brought back to the Vanderpump Dog Rescue Center by the Executive Director of the Foundation, Dr. John Sessa, and has since been adopted by a loving, caring family.

Celebrity performances were peppered throughout this gorgeous event, with performances by Billy Gilman (The Voice), singer and actor Cheyenne Jackson (American Horror Story), and an incredible dinner performance by the band Shirley House. The night ended with a spectacular dance performance from Dancing with the Stars’ Julz Tocker and partner Rachel White, followed by a night of guests dancing, with stars Lance Bass, Michael Turchin, Lisa Vanderpump and Ken Todd leading the way.

Many of Lisa’s close friends showed up to support the cause, including a wonderful amount of celebrities who helped raise awareness on the red carpet and through social media. Aside from Extra’s Mario and Courtney Lopez, Lance Bass and Michael Turchin, who supported the event by hosting and presenting, Real Housewives cast members Gretchen Rossi & Slade Smiley, Taylor Armstrong, Joyce Giraud, Melissa Gorga, Dolores Catania, Teddi Jo Mellencamp, D’Andra Simmons and Kameron Westcott were in attendance. Vanderpump Rules cast members Jax Taylor, Kristen Doute, Brian Carter, Brittany Cartwright, Scheana Shay, Stassi Schroeder, Peter Madrigal, Katie Maloney-Schwartz, Tom Schwartz, Ariana Madix, Tom Sandoval and James Kennedy came out to support. Other celebrities who attended included Christy and Autumn Gibel, Mohamed Hadid, Shiva Safai, Jeff Lewis, Gage Edwards, Jenni Pulos, Jonathan Nassos, John Jay, Amanda Stanton, Jasmine Goode, Mercedes Javid, Wendy Burch, Fortune Feimster, Heather McDonald, Austin Anderson and Emmy Perry.

This event would not have been possible without the generous support of presenting sponsor Zappos for Good (www.ZapposForGood.com), hosting sponsor Collide (www.collide.com), corporate sponsors Evolution Media (www.evolutionmedia.com), Randy and Mindy Levine, Palm Bay International (www.palmbay.com) and SUR Restaurant (www.surrestaurant.com). Other sponsors of the event included, Kibble Pet (kibblepet.com), Shady Paws (shadyface.com), Emmy’s Hope (www.emmyshope.com), Lovegevity (www.lovegevity.university), Loyola High School of Los Angeles (loyolahs.edu), and the Hutcherson Family.

    ABOUT THE VANDERPUMP DOG FOUNDATION

The Vanderpump Dog Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit dog rescue organization, working on both a domestic and international front to help create a better world for dogs globally. Founders Lisa Vanderpump & Ken Todd began the long journey towards trying to stop the barbaric torture practices at the Yulin Dog Meat Festival and end the dog meat trade in Asia, in 2015. Together with their partner Dr. John Sessa, they launched the campaign Stop Yulin Forever, which ultimately led them to create The Vanderpump Dog Foundation. The movement gained momentum and has inspired activists all over the world to work towards ending the Yulin Dog Meat Festival and encourage more humane treatment for dogs worldwide. The Vanderpump Dog Foundation was formed to not only aid in ending this international atrocity, but to also better the lives of dogs domestically. The United States faces many problems of its own including dog overpopulation, abuse, neglect and lack of education with regards to spaying and neutering pets. With the opening of their new Vanderpump Dog Rescue Center in LA, The Vanderpump Dog Foundation aims to reduce these problems within California and beyond, as well as continue their national and international campaigns built on a platform of education, legislation, and activism.

During breastfeeding awareness month, it’s important to recognize the moms who are dedicated to pumping breastmilk for their babies

    Press Release

    updated: Aug 15, 2017

Premama®, a Rhode Island startup and the first nationwide line of pill-free, natural prenatal supplements is announcing today as “National Moms Who Pump Day” in celebration of moms around the world that pump breast milk for their baby or donation.

“At Premama, we celebrate all moms whether they breastfeed, pump or formula feed. During Breastfeeding Awareness Month, we noticed that there wasn’t a day to specially honor all the moms who continually go above and beyond to pump breastmilk for their babies, or even others’ babies through donation,” said Dan Aziz, CEO and Founder of Premama. “We decided to create National Moms Who Pump Day on Aug. 15, to shine a spotlight on this special group of dedicated moms who pump.”

At Premama, we celebrate all moms whether they breastfeed, pump or formula feed. During Breastfeeding Awareness Month, we noticed that there wasn’t a day to specially honor all the moms who continually go above and beyond to pump breastmilk for their babies, or even other’s babies through donation. We decided to create National Moms Who Pump Day on Aug. 15, to shine a spotlight on this special group of dedicated moms who pump.

Dan Aziz, CEO and Founder of Premama

“We created Premama Lactation supplement to support moms on their breastfeeding journey, whether they are nursing or pumping. It is designed to boost breast milk supply and fortify mom’s milk with added nutrition,” said Aziz.

Over the past three weeks, Premama has encouraged moms to share their hilarious, empowering and heartwarming pumping stories on the Premama Facebook page. Four winners will be chosen to each win one $500 SpaFinder gift card. The story categories were: “funniest pump story,” “pumpers who go above and beyond” and “the person who supported you most during their pumping journey.”

The winning stories for each category are:

Funniest Pump Story had one winner:

Hannah: “I made my toddlers breastmilk popsicles and my husband came home and ate two, not knowing they were breastmilk. You should’ve seen his face when I came in and saw him and told him what he was eating!”

Pumpers Who Go Above and Beyond had two winners:

Bracha: “I’ve been pumping for almost nine years. I never thought I would end up here when we adopted our first child. He was premature and weighed a few ounces short of two pounds. I induced lactation and was able to feed him exclusively with my milk from six months on after supplementing with donner milk and the help of an SNS.

“I have gone onto feed 22 children (including my four kids). I’ve donated pumped milk as I’ve also wet nursed as many of the 22 kiddos I’ve fed over the years.

“My latest accomplishment was being able to pump for a surrogate baby I birthed in July 2016. I pumped and shipped 1000 ounces of milk to her bi-weekly in addition to nursing my own toddler at the time. I am now pregnant with that baby’s sibling (due this Fall), and I hope to pump for him/her as well. Breastmilk is an amazing gift and I am ever so thankful that my breasts have exceeded my expectations to nourish so many children. Nothing can compare.”

Stephanie: “I was diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm on July 7. I had open heart surgery to repair it on July 31. Our third son was only three months old. Five hours post-op and immediately after removing the breathing tube, my sister hooked me up to my pump. I continued to pump three times a day during my hospitalization in an effort to preserve his food source.

“A small miracle is that I had pumped and stored about 700 ounces in the previous two months that I had planned to donate. Because of our stash, we were able to keep him on breastmilk during my entire hospitalization. Hopefully, my supply will return well enough we can still donate in the future.”

Person Who Supported You Most During Their Pumping Journey had one winner:

Christine: “My sister Stephanie was by far my hugest supporter & cheerleader in my pumping journey. She not only bought me my (quite expensive) pump, but she also taught me all of the ins and outs when it came to pumping. She helped me find the right size parts, taught me just how to pump and encouraged me when I wanted to quit before my goal date (multiple times). I would never have made it 18 months without her!

“I’ll never forget my early days in the NICU with my son. I was beyond exhausted (emotionally and physically) but she made sure I was pumping at the right times to ensure that my milk would come in for my little guy while he couldn’t quite nurse yet. Or the one time I got mastitis. She had a two-year-old and newborn at the time, but she spent the whole day at my house caring for my newborn and me as well so that I could pump all day and heal.

“Or the time when my deep freezer broke, I lost my entire stash of pumped milk (sad face) and she gave me an overabundance of her frozen milk so that my little boy did not have to supplement with formula (amazing)! I am so thankful for my sister! She’s so selfless and absolutely deserves a spa day!”

Three simple steps can make all the difference for caregivers in the workplace.

    Press Release

    Feb 23, 2016

The unexpected and unrelenting challenges of caregiving affects not only caregivers, but their employers and their co-workers.  With nearly half of America’s 65 million family caregivers participating in the workforce, the workplace is feeling the pinch of this growing pressure on their employees who also find themselves in the role of family caregiver.  The emotional fatigue of caregiving alone can compromise a worker’s productivity, but throw in last minute schedule changes, continual phone calls, tardiness, and absenteeism—and more employers are finding themselves in the difficult place of wanting to express compassion while simultaneously maintaining a productive workplace.

Caregivers with Hope founder Peter Rosenberger says that caregiving employees can strengthen their professional standing in the workplace by taking 3 simple steps.

Nearly half of America’s 65 million family caregivers are participating in the workforce.

“I’ve found that if an employee is forthright with their supervisor about their circumstances, asks for flexibility without an attitude of entitlement, and consistently provides a fair day’s work, their employer is more likely to be understanding and work with them,” states Rosenberger. “It is also important for the employer to still keep boundaries for these workers. They are not helping the caregiving employee by enabling poor workplace habits and performance.”

To address these and other concerns faced by the caregiver, Rosenberger founded Caregivers with Hope to offer clear, proven strategies to guide them towards a healthier lifestyle in every facet of their life. Peter is ‘the Caregivers Caregiver’ bringing diverse talent and outrageous humor and candor to encourage others. “The goal is not just making family caregivers feel better, but offering them the tools and empowerment to be better” says Rosenberger.

Through an unparalleled journey with his wife Gracie, Peter has navigated through a medical nightmare for the past three decades that has included 78 operations and the amputation of both of Gracie’s legs. In the process, he has learned that a caregiver cannot only survive, but thrive in the midst of oftentimes-grim circumstances. A most ardent champion for the cause of family caregivers for years as a speaker, author and radio host of his own weekly show on News Radio WLAC 1510 in Nashville (also on iHeart Radio), he is also an accomplished pianist and black belt in Hapkido.

Peter’s lengthy media credits include USA Today, Today, The Today Show, Fox news, Guideposts, AARP, BBC World News, among others, and he offers practical help in his latest book, Hope for the Caregiver – Encouraging Words to Strengthen Your Spirit (Worthy Inspired, September 2014).
