Fairfield: I-80 closed at Travis Boulevard

Traffic on eastbound Interstate Highway 80 in Fairfield was stopped on Saturday morning after the interstate was closed because of police activity on the Travis Boulevard overpass.

The California Highway Patrol said traffic was stopped in the eastbound lanes as of about 8:35 a.m. and asked drivers to take alternate routes.

The Fairfield Police Department also sent an advisory at that time asking drivers to avoid the Travis Boulevard overpass.

Live traffic data from Google maps showed traffic backed up to state Highway 12. West Texas Street and other side streets were seeing impacts as of about 9 a.m.

Petaluma: Arson investigations underway after three fires in four days

Arson investigations are underway into three fires in four days, Petaluma police and firefighters said Saturday.

A fire about 4:44 a.m. Monday consumed a portable toilet near the soccer field at Lucchesi Park and threatened a shipping container with property belonging to the Petaluma Youth Soccer League, fire officials said.

At 1:47 a.m. Friday, a parks department maintenance building on Maria Drive was found fully engulfed in flame five minutes after it was reported, officials said in a news release.

At 10:03 p.m. Friday, a third fire was reported near the Lynch Creek Trail and west of U.S. Highway 101. A 33-year-old man, Alexander Gasparyan, was detained for “reckless burning,” fire officials said.

3-alarm fire in San Francisco’s Mission District injures 2 people

A three-alarm fire injured two people in San Francisco’s Mission District early Saturday morning after flames spread from vehicles to multi-residential buildings, according to the city’s Fire Department.

Firefighters responded shortly before 2 a.m. to the fire reported on Wiese Street, an alley between 15th and 16th streets and a block west of the busy Mission Street thoroughfare. The fire was close to one started 24 hours earlier near the Episcopal Church of St. John the Evangelist at 1661 15th St., though the church was not damaged, fire officials said.

As flames spread from vehicles to at least two buildings on the Wiese Street side of buildings with addresses on Julian Avenue, crews entered buildings to extinguish the fire and search for anyone inside. Multiple people were led to safety, with two minor injuries reported, according to the Fire Department.

The cause of the fire, which displaced at least nine people, is under investigation.
