4 Differences Between A Mind Vs. Body High

With cannabis legal, more people are consuming. But the surprise it isn’t always about getting high and chilling out, a surprising number are using it for medical reasons. Gen Z, who is struggling with anxiety, use it to relax and also as an alternative to alcohol. Boomers are using it for medical reasons at increasing number. But a concern is they don’t users for these reasons don’t want to be too stoned. Here are the 4 differences between a mind vs. body high. This is a key part in consuming for medical reasons or just a relaxing evening.

RELATED: Science Says Medical Marijuana Improves Quality Of Life

According to data, most medical cannabis patients report enjoying the hyper-sensory experience of feeling high. Sativa strains can induce a head high, which may empower you to think faster, act more quickly, and feel less inhibited at social gatherings. Indica is associated with more of a ‘bedtime buzz’, or what we call a body high, leaving you feeling relaxed, calm, and ready to catch up on some sleep.Indica strains may be well known for their ability to provide body-numbing effects that can help make chronic pain more manageable. cerebral strains can help alleviate chronic pain by reducing pain perception, or how acutely you feel pain and discomfort.

So marijuana can have two effects: body highs and head highs. While it’s very difficult to predict always predict the type of high, it’s slightly easier to differentiate a head high from a body high. So whether you use it for medical or just for fun, it is good to know which trip you are choosing.

  • Consumer Use Sets Records On Cannabis!

Consumer Use Sets Records On Cannabis!

The speed of cannabis mainstreaming is setting records.

Since the first state went legal in 2016, consumers have moved to legal marijuana. Now, with over 50% of the country having access to it, things are starting to change.  And consumer use sets records on cannabis as all ages are starting to consume and consume more.  States who have full legal cannabis are bringing in more revenue from marijuana than alcohol. All fueled by consumers.

    RELATED: Great Fall Whiskeys

The newest record is Michigan, a solid mid-western state. In the first year of it being available to the public, the state had $1 billion in sales.  Now, the Great Lakes State sets record with $295+ million in monthly marijuana sales. And it isn’t what you think, while it is being used to relax, it is also being used for its medical benefits.  Boomers, the generation who helped promote the War on Drugs, has turned to it for the medical benefits of managing inflammation, chronic pain, insomnia, and more.  And their grandchildren in Gen z are using it to combat anxiety. There generation has the highest amount of any other generation.

The other record is cannabis is taking a bit out of beer. Beer sales are down, especially earlier in the week as people are turning to vaping and gummies for a quick, low calorie and dose to relax after a busy start to the week.  Year over year growth is strong.  In 2022, sales were $30 million and in 2024, it is on track to be $38 million. While beer sales still far outpace cannabis at $117 billion, sales dropped again in 2023 by 5.1%. Another reason big liquor companies are wading into the cannabis market.

But the industry is still struggling and the Biden/Harris administration has failed to follow through on their 2020 promise to help the industry. Biden is one of the most seasoned policymakers in DC with 50 years of service, so it seems the failure of the DEA to make a move before the election could be planned. The DEA rescheduling move premiered at time to provide zero relief for the industry in 2024 as the DEA is not making an announcement until December.  Being post December, it could provide cover to the current administration to make make a move. Or if the GOP wins the presidency, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-KY) has made it clear he will move to reduce the industr

  • Boomer And Gen Z Consume Marijuana For Similar Reasons

Boomer And Gen Z Consume Marijuana For Similar Reasons

Cannabis has become popular for every adult age group- but the surprise is Gen Z and Boomers are using it for similar reasons.

Cannabis is fully legal to over 50% of the population and all groups are embracing its use. Proven healthier than alcohol, it has become much more common in all sets. Even Florida looks like it is going to vote for recreational cannabis. Long stigmatized as a way to get high, be lazy and lay about on the couch, it turns out it is become part of every day life…and part of a health regime. An example of how it is being used, Boomer and Gen Z consume marijuana for similar reasons.

RELATED: The Most Popular Marijuana Flavors

It is become so accepted, AARP did a study about use among Boomers. AARP is the largest  print magazine with 38 million readers…and their bulletin has 33 million.  A huge validator for the demographic. It also shows they are more open to more mainstream cannabis. This falls in line by the positions of the American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians.

Photo by Kindel Media from Pexels

The AARP study revealed 21 percent ages 50-plus used some form of cannabis — be it food, drink, flower or another type— at least once in the last year, a report from the University of Michigan’s National Poll on Healthy Aging found. That’s up from 1 in 8 (12 percent) in 2021. In 2015 and 2016, roughly 3 percent of adults 65 and older used cannabis, according to research published in JAMA Internal Medicine.

Roughly 68% of poll respondents who used cannabis products did so for help with sleep, the researchers found. Many also cited pain relief (63 percent), mental health, anxiety,  and mood (53 percent) and relaxation (81 percent) as reasons for using cannabis.

What is interesting is Gen Z, the youngest adult generation, Gen Z, is an also a big fan of marijuana. They helped fuel the California Sober trend where you reduce or stop drinking and use weed instead.  One reason Gen Z has embraced weed is it helps with anxiety and mood.  They also use it for relaxation, way more so than other generation who tend to lean into alcohol.

What is interesting is some Boomers and Gen X are consume marijuana in a more traditional way by smoking. Gen X and Boomers new to consuming tend to vape and use gummies.  The later two are more “on the go” and discreet and doesn’t have the smell. It is interesting the marijuana is bonding together two generations.

  • Key Information About Joint Pain And Medical Marijuana

Key Information About Joint Pain And Medical Marijuana

Roughly 19% of the people suffer from joint pain – a daily struggle…but here is how medical marijuana can help.

Roughly 19% suffer from joint pain or some part of arthritis. Not only is it painful, it is disruptive in daily life. Some pain can be short term, like from sprains, an injury, tendinitis, or tendon inflammation, an infection of the bone or joint, or overuse of a joint. But some can be long term issues with an impact the patients like. Arthritis, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, bursitis, lupus and more can be long, lingering issues with pain. There is some hope, and cannabis might be one.  Here is key information about joint pain and medical marijuana.

RELATED: What’s Next For Rheumatoid Arthritis And Cannabis?

One study concluded about 20% of patients with rheumatoid diseases who actively consume cannabis report an improvement in pain. Cannabis contains key components which help reduce inflammation.  More research needs to be done to to perfect treatment and dosage, but early indicators look positive for help. Another current benefit of medical marijuana or CBD with joint pain, is it helps with sleep, which is a problem with people in chronic pain.

Medical marijuana, in the right dose can also be easier on the body. Long used as a natural pain killer, it is less addictive and the body responds positively.  Currently used, orticosteroid injections have been a staple in managing pain and inflammation. With new research showcasing the long-term effects of one of the most used treatments, doctors and researchers are concerned about the risks of injections and the potential risks involved with cortisone.

RELATED: Dear Dr. Green: Can Marijuana Topicals Help With Arthritis?

Boston University study found patients who had been given the medicine by injection found a risk for “accelerated adverse joint events after treatment.” Meaning, when a patient was treated for osteoarthritis or other joint pain via a shot of cortisone, it may have accelerated joint destruction and bone loss. The study also found certain preexisting conditions, such as older age and Caucasian race seemed to increase the risk for the outcome even more. Researchers recommended MRI pre-screening before injections were given to identify the area better and find if the danger could be accurately assessed before the dose was given.

Not only can medical marijuana be helpful, but so can CBD. The Arthritis Foundation has a guide to CBD for those that suffer from the condition. According to Dr. Daniel Clauw, a contributor to the guide, “Right now, it (CBD) appears to be fairly safe and might help certain types of pain.”

While CBD and THC can be used as part of a pain management regimen, they currently can not be the entire plan. Studies like the one conducted on cortisone treatments are bringing the conversations of cannabis and CBD to greater light and offering less stigmatization, but until more research is done, the best path for joint pain is still unknown.

  • Will California Let Marijuana Be Sold At Farmers Markets

Will California Let Marijuana Be Sold At Farmers Markets

A staple of neighborhoods for meats, fresh vegetables and more – will California add in marijuana?

About 12% of people browse and potentially shop a Farmer’s Market on a regular basis.  Usually they are pop-ups in a neighborhood with everything from local meat and fresh vegetables to vintage clothing and handcrafted products. Now the question is will California let marijuana be sold at farmers markets? A bill is going through the state legislature to allow small batch farmers and producers to sell at these venues.  It could be an another step in fixing the chaos around their cannabis market.

RELATED: The Most Popular Marijuana Flavors

The California cannabis industry has been struggling. With high taxes from state, regional and local governments, the businesses are burdened with high operational costs. Additionally, the state has done little or nothing to reduce the black market. This has lead some companies have gone under. Despite consumer use growing. While there has been lots of talk, this is one of the first major action. When legalization first started sweeping the country, California was the largest market. But with New York slowly getting their act together after chaotic rollout of recreational, they may lose out of being the top market.

This summer, the state legislature developed a bill to allow small producers to sell at local markets. This would be give some of the mom and pop more opportunity to reach consumers. They would only be allowed to see at markets in places like San Francisco where cannabis events are allowed by local governments. It would also cut overhead and the purchase price for customers, potentially reducing the huge black market in the state. The bill was forwarded to Governor Newsom, who is pondering whether or not to sign it and make it possible.

Governor Newson is a seasoned politician who is always looking to the future. This could be the first step in helping a popular, and for the state, profitable industry. Newsom was elected governor of California in 2018 and has stewarded the government’s action toward the industry, this could help provide some much needed relief.

  • Vaping Could Have This Effect On Men

Vaping Could Have This Effect On Men

While it is popular, easy to use and seen everywhere, vaping could have this effect on men.

It is seen everywhere and is viewed as a much easier option than smoking. Indulging in cigarettes, cigars and joints in general public spaces have been banned since the early 2000s. Prior to the ban it was a Wild West. Up until the late 80s smoking was permitted at work, hospitals, grocery stories, schools, bars, restaurants, and planes. When it began being banned from smoking inside, smoking decreased. After the ban, vaping technology emerged and went public in 2003. By 2011 about 7 million vaped globally, with over 82 million vaping in 2021. The number has only reason. When cannabis become legal, vaping marijuana become popular and is in a tight race with smoking and gummies for ways people consume.  But there is a warning, vaping could have this effect on men…erectile dysfunction.

RELATED: Is Your Vaping Device Leaching Heavy Metals Into Your Lungs?

While they have lower levels of chemicals, vapes may still damage endothelial cells. It may cause oxidative stress on the endothelial cells lining blood vessels. This can affect nitric oxide (NO) levels and their signaling in the body. This can be an issue as sufficient NO is necessary to produce an erection.

One study suggests men who vape nicotine are twice as likely to experience erectile dysfunction when compared to men who don’t vape. And cannabinoid receptors at the level of both the brain and penis may negatively impact erectile function.

The first study, published in the American Journal of Preventative Medicine, looked into deeper understanding of vaping and sexual health regarding men. They analyzed self-reported data from over 13,000 men over the age of 20. Among the findings: Men who used e-cigarettes were found to be 2.2 times more likely to have erectile dysfunction.

Some caveats in the study include that the data was self-reported, with there being the possibility of bias. Another thing to be mindful of is the fact that the survey didn’t ask any questions on whether or not the men were taking medications which increased the risks of erectile dysfunction, like antidepressants.

RELATED: Science Says Medical Marijuana Improves Quality Of Life

Nicotine has long been linked with a variety of sexual dysfunctions, including erectile dysfunction and decreased arousal. Researchers believe this link exists due to smoking and the damage it imparts on circulation, which can also increase the odds of heart disease and strokes. When circulation is impacted, it makes it more difficult for erections to occur naturally.

Cannabis has long been used as an aphrodisiac, light use can relax the body and increase sensational. But, some research has shown heavy consumption may cause problems.  So it may be important not only how much you consume but how you consume.  If you have issues, talk to a health professional.

Will DeSantis Let Floridians Vote On Marijuana

In his quest as a foe of legal cannabis and for running a nanny state, will DeSantis allow Floridians to vote for marijuana?

DeSantis is recovering from his failed presidential bid and is working to shore up his reputation in Florida. He is known for being tough, driven and getting things his way. His historic fight with Disney has drawn national attention, but hasn’t fully gone as DeSantis planned. His reputation is bruised and he is stepping up his tactics. He has opposed legal cannabis from the beginning, so will DeSantis let Floridians vote on marijuana?

RELATED: Looks Like Virginia Is The Newest Marijuana Nanny State

Currently, DeSantis is using state resources to try to block the Sunshine State citizens from voting on another issues, but what about marijuana? DeSantis, despite receiving campaign donations from a few large cannabis operators, has been adamantly opposed.

When medical marijuana was first put on the ballot, citizens were supportive. It was reasonable considering the amount of veterans and senior citizens in the state. PTSD and chronic pain are two of the ways the American Medical Association, Health and Human Services and science acknowledge cannabis has medical benefits. In general, Florida is in the top 3 states with retirees, a group the Governor thought he can rely on for support, but the state supported medical marijuana by 61%.  The governor said it wasn’t enough support, and made them vote again, clearly sharing he did not want it passed. It passed with 71%.  Now the state wants to pass recreational marijuana via a ballot initiative and the governor is unhappy.

The pro-marijuana group gained enough signatures and has out raised the opposition $75 million to $14 million. In different current ballot initiative, DeSantis has taken another tack.  The other group also gained enough signatures and traction. But in an unprecedented move, the Governor has used state resource to go door to door to ask people if they signed the petition. Also, the governor has also allowed a state agency’s seal to be used in ads against a ballot initiative, a highly usual move.

The GOP Presidential candidate has come out in support of recreational cannabis in Florida, but, so far, it has not swayed DeSantis in his stance.  The GOP leader and the governor have a fraught relationship, so it is unclear if it will make a difference in campaign.

Key Tips For Consuming Marijuana At The Local Fair

Fall is the time county fairs, carnivals, and more come to time…while engaging in the fun, there are few tip to know if you are going to consuming marijuana

September is a highlight for country fairs followed by October for the Halloween carnivals. Elephant ears, Ferris wheels and midways all appeal to our childlike delight for fun, excitement, different foods and more. But what if you want to chill out while attending? Well here are key tips for consuming marijuana at the local fair?

    RELATED: The Best Refreshing Cocktails

With over 50% of the country having access to legal marijuana, some are taking it for granted like it a beer and is accepted everywhere. But it is wise to think ahead, especially since you are with large groups of people – including families and kids. The Minnesota State Fair is the largest daily attended fair and the Texas State Fair, which is the largest in the country by total attendance, drew a peak daily attendance in 2023 of 141,410 but a total attendance of 2,341,449. Some parts of the fair are geared for kids, others for a mixed crowd, like the pirate ship and roller coasters.

Fairs are a sensation extravaganza. The lights, noises, movements, smells and food appeal to all the senses. The midway is the main path or street fairgoers walk along to find sideshows, concession stands, and other amusements.

The first thing is be discreet, fairs are family events. Consider a vape or gummies over smoking. They provide less smell, so are less noticeable. With a vape you can also manage your high.

If you are new to consuming marijuana, consider a low level high so you aren’t overwhelmed by the mass amount of sensations. It will also let you experience both things without freaking out. Part of a gummy might put you in the right spot to absorb everything going on and appreciate it at the next level.

The fair is about food, so know if you are prone to the munchies, this will be a fiesta of flavors. Consider eating beforehand or know this will be a cheat day. From fried butter to hot dogs, it is all going to look good.

Start slow on the rides. Let the high settle into your mind and body before boarding the scrambler. This gives your body time to adjust so there isn’t any unpleasant surprises.

  • Presidential Elections Are All Over The Board For Marijuana

Presidential Elections Are All Over The Board For Marijuana

It is an odd, odd one – this year election is all over the board, especially for marijuana

This presidential election is turning out to be one for the history books. With Biden dropping out, a Kennedy becoming a major player, AI, and a nation on edge, it is becoming a year which is flustering the public. Few expect a clear outcome the night of the election and worries abound for the results. One key group worried is the cannabis industry, the presidential elections are all over the board for marijuana.

RELATED: California or New York, Which Has The Biggest Marijuana Mess

While state legalization is increasing and consumer use is significantly growing, federal restrictions along with chaos in New York and California caused the industry to crash in 2022 and it has struggled ever since. The Biden administration’s last minute push to follow through on the 2020 campaign to help the industry has become a dud. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has delayed any action until December, guaranteeing zero industry support for 2024.  While all this is bad news, the candidates positions involve and change.

In the GOP camp, the presidential nominee has been indifferent toward marijuana. While he doesn’t drink, he seems to flow with popular opinion. He just posted support of recreational legalization in Florida (against his foe DeSantis) and seems to be positive toward the industry. But his team has made it clear cannabis is bad. The GOP Vice President candidate has not be a fan, voted against in the Senate and has been quiet on his stance.  House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is taking the place of Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) in trying to be a cannabis killer.

The GOP has an “extra man” in Robert Kennedy,Jr who has been positioned as a top tier leader. Kennedy is pro marijuana and recently attacked the Democratic Presidential candidate for her history against marijuana.

In the Democratic team, Biden was very slow in supporting the industry. Aside from pardons, which helped some individuals, it took 3 years for him to make a move.  Thousands of small mom and pop businesses in the industry placed hope in him, but have had struggled to pay bills. A seasoned policy lawmaker, it seems Biden’s team played a reschedule date game to see if they can convince younger voters. When it wasn’t needed, the DEA left the cannabis industry to twist in the wind. Harris has changed from being anti-marijuana during her time in California to being seemingly open to increased legalization. She has brought it up in her campaign, but it isn’t a major policy plank.

RELATED: Player Says 9 Out Of 10 NFL Athletes Use Marijuana

The only clear record is the Democratic Vice Presidential Tim Walz. As Governor of Minnesota, he has been a clear champion of legal cannabis. He seems to understand the medical benefits, the economic value to states, how it supports mom and pop businesses, can help veterans and reduces crime. He seems to be the only real champion.

Tips For Consuming Marijuana At Football Games

Football season is upon us and people are heading to games…although it is legal, you might want to follow this tip to consume

Between professional and amateur football, over 50 million will attend in person and possible even tailgate. The crowds jam in to passionately watch their favorite teams. Michigan Stadium, known as “The Big House” by University of Michigan students, alumni, and fans seats over 107K. The energy is amazing. But there is a new attendee in Michigan and other states, legal marijuana. Long a bastion of beer, bourbon and more….legal cannabis is now available. But it can be a bit tricky. Here are some tips for consuming marijuana at football games.

RELATED: Celebrate With These Simple Classic Cocktails

As states roll out fully recreational marijuana and over 50% of the population have access to legal products, people see it as part of their buzz mix.  Gen Z and others are drifting from alcohol and are looking at weed. California sober has become a thing, but you want ot thoughtful before you pull out a big blunt. In Ohio, is is a misdemeanor to consume in public, and while accepted, the plant’s odor can annoy those around you – and bring attention to your use.

Tailgating is a time honored game tradition. While most stop off a bar/restaurant to grab a bite or a pre-drink, others go for full classic. Classic tailgate parties in the parking lot are big deals, especially at some colleges. Full on bbqs, full bars and catered meals can be seen and smelled. But if you want to consume, you might want to be a little discreet and consider a THC or hemp beverage.

Most games have some underage attendees, so smell can be annoying to some parents. The guy drunk on beer can be forgiven publicly more often than the stoned guy who has a skunk smell. Consider using a vape, gummy or oil for the day.  Vapes can provide a quick hit which takes effect within 5-10 minutes and you can manage the buzz during all 4 quarters. Oils also hit quickly, but are a little bit more difficult to manage the high, but experienced consumers know how to ride the wave.

  • Biden Administration Puts A Knife Into The Cannabis Industry

Biden Administration Puts A Knife Into The Cannabis Industry

In surprise to no one considering the history of the administration leaders, Biden administration starts to wind down legal marijuana

Mom and pop businesses have been struggling the last 2 years. Thousands are in hte cannabis business, many having the hope from the Biden/Harris 2020 campaign about helping them. Almost 4 years later, there has been no change, and while marijuana use soars, federal government are putting hundreds of businesses out even in fully legal states. The DEA action is paving the way for a robust illegal market.

Has Biden administration killed put a knife into the cannabis industry. Has former foe of cannabis managed to effectively put a stop to the legal cannabis industry? Biden has been in the federal government for 51 years. His tenure has given him unique insight in how government works, the timeline and how to move projects forward. Until recently, Biden and Harris were anti-marijuana, but recognizing the direction of voters, especially younger voters, they made a pivot. But was it a move to try to engage the youth movement without having to deliver a final product? The announcement by the Drug Enforcement Administration to delay until at least 2 December has thrown the industry into a tailspin with stocks dropping due to the announcement.

RELATED: Is New York Finally Getting Its Marijuana Act Together

Biden is quick to comment “Don’t tell me what you value. Show me your budget, and I’ll tell you what you value.”  In 2020 the Biden/Harris ticket promised to help the industry by readdressing cannabis.  But in reality, Biden waited over 3 years before he made the move.  An experienced lawmaker understands the wheels of change moves slowly. Especially when the an agency like the DEA is resistant to the change. The timing of the start to reschedule cannabis allows the campaign to say “look what we are doing”, but actual change may or may not happen. In reality, Biden told the public he values cannabis, but he didn’t put a true push on an easy change until months before the end of his term. Most likely knowing the clock would run out. It is disappointing as the Veterans Administration acknowledged it is an important option for veterans, especially with those with PTSD.

Anne Milligan, is the administrator of the DEA and was appointed by the current administration. The DEA is a federal agency overseen by the presidential administration and has made it clear it is not onboard with 85+% of the population’s view on cannabis. It has also not been pleased Health and Human Services (HHS), The American Medical Association, Canada, the Food and Drug Administration and the American College of Physicians have all recommended rescheduling based on the science behind the plant’s medical benefits

The industry is full of mom and pop organizations who are trying to help build a new economic engine. Gen Z, understanding marijuana is healthy than alcohol, has embraced weed and beer sales have been down. Consumer use has soared among all age groups.  Legal states have been reaping the economic benefits, but the DEA doesn’t seemed to be phased by the change of the public acceptance.

While Harris drinks alcohol, Biden and the GOP presidential nominee do not. Harris and Biden have a history of being strong legal cannabis foes. On the campaign trail, Harris seems to support the industry, but has done nothing publicly or via government regulations to help the small businesses in the sector.

Both Harris and Biden are seasoned policy markers, so it would come as no surprise the timeline or the announcement. Harris has revitalized part of the Democrat campaign with other opportunities to engage younger voters. Has the current administration pulled another bait and switch with the industry?

RELATED: Cannabis Can Help Soreness After Summertime Activities

Should the Harris team lose, it gives House Speaker Mike Johnson a chance to end legal marijuana also. He is dead set against any form of legalization. Some leaders in the industry have doubts about the Biden/Harris take on marijuana and have been expanding into hemp, which Senator Mitch McConnell championed. So like another president, Gerald Ford when NYC was in trouble, Biden sent a very clear message to the industry.

  • Did Game Of Thrones Stars Help This Weed Trend

Did Game Of Thrones Stars Help This Weed Trend

The stars of Game Thrones had people really chill with this trend.

While HBO’s Game of Thrones is currently over, the spin offs continue. The next Game of Thrones (GoT) spin-off isn’t until  2025. George RR Martin has confirmed A Knight of Seven Kingdoms will continue the story.  Aside from the merch and memes, it has also spun on “experiences”. But one of the most chill things is did Game of Thrones stars help this weed trend to chill out? Playing characters on GoT could be tense, but it helped bond the cast.  Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams become good friends and to relax from long days of filming Sansa and Arya Stark, they would get stoned and take a bath.

RELATED: The Simpsons Predicted Legal Weed So What’s Next

Now they are two ways to take a weed bath. One, like Sophie and Maisie, you can consume some gummies, use a vape or go old school and smoke or you can take one and use a bath bomb. The goal is to relax and chill, so fold in some music and just let the warm water wash over you. Social media extolls the benefits of a relaxing bath, especially if marijuana is blended in.

A THC bath bomb is the same thing as a normal bath bomb, but with THC. They contain essential oils, extracts, and of course, cannabinoids, which dissolve when they are dropped into your bathwater. They use the same science as a cannabis topical. Your endocannabinoid system consists of an intricate network of receptors that are activated both by our body’s own endocannabinoids and by the marijuana plant’s phytocannabinoids.

When you submerge your body into water enhanced by a THC bath bomb, you’re coating the receptors in your skin with the cannabinoids inside the bath bomb. While you mentally might get high, it can create a full body effect similar to if you rubbed THC oil all over yourself. This “body high,” as it is sometimes called, can be different for everyone, but most people find it to be relaxing.

Sophie Turner shared  “We’re kind of like loners on Game of Thrones, just because the past few seasons Maisie and I have sleepovers every night when we’re shooting. Or every night whenever both of us are in town. We just used to sit there and eat and watch stupid videos and smoke weed. I don’t know if my publicist will kill me for saying this. We’d get high and then we’d sit in the bath together and we’d rub makeup brushes on our faces. It’s fun.”

  • Which Legal Industry Is Bigger Marijuana Or Sports Betting

Which Legal Industry Is Bigger Marijuana Or Sports Betting

They are considered vice industries – but the mainstream public love them. But which is bigger?

Vice industries have always made lots of money. Alcohol, porn, gambling, marijuana and tobacco. Alcohol is a fully legal and is an over $300 billion industry in the US and Canada. Pornhub, the top site in the category, always ranks high in search – usually in the top 10.  But two are new to the mainstream market, so which legal industry is better marijuana or sports betting?

RELATED: The Simpsons Predicted Legal Weed So What’s Next

Sin City is has a big hand in both industries. Gambling, which is different than sports betting, is the backbone of the Las Vegas….but sports betting and marijuana have made big marks. The Westgate is home of Superbook, the the largest sportsbook in the world. With their famed video wall, you can watch, bet and enjoy a fully stocked bar, cocktail service, and plenty of food options.  It is also home to marijuana Planet 13. It is the world’s largest cannabis dispensary, a 115,000-square-foot entertainment complex with dining, a bar, shops, light-sabre-battling robots and an immersive glass-fronted production facility. Soon Cannabition, an interactive, immersive environment will be open as part of the complex.

Sports betting emerged after the 2018 U.S. Supreme Court verdict finding the federal government’s Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) to be unconstitutional. Until then, the law mandated states could not “sponsor, operate, advertise, promote, license, or authorize by law or compact” sports betting. Now the market for such activity is starting to open up.

When Indiana first opened sports betting, the site saw state saw nearly $440 million in wagers, according to the Indiana Gaming Commission. And all of this cash was generated, too, without making much change to the current infrastructure. The state and business owners are making money.

In 1996, California became the first state legalize medical marijuana legislation with the Compassionate Use Act. Colorado became the first state to legalize recreational marijuana in 2014. In 2018, Canada went legal. Now over 50% of the US population has access to legal marijuana and states with fully legal weed release more revenue from cannabis than alcohol. It has become so popular, it is cutting into the beer industry.

    RELATED: What Is California Sober

So who is better in the growing industries?  Marijuana was a $30 billion industry in 2023. While the same year, Americans wagered a record $119.84 billion on sports betting which translated into $10.92 billion in revenue. So the cannabis industry is currently bigger.  Want to bet if it stays the same or changes?

This recipe is dosed with 1 teaspoon of cannabutter per serving. The strength of the pop tart multiple things, including the type of marijuana used and how cannabutter is made. For more tips on proper dosage, here are 5 ways to figure out your cannabutter’s potency.

    Cannabis Pop Tarts

Makes 4 (recipe can be doubled)

    For the pastries:

    • 1 portion unbaked pie dough (the same amount you’d use for a single-crust pie)
    • 4 tsp cannabutter (I like to use either a standard cannabutter or a vegan coconut oil cannabutter)
    • 4 heaping tsp filling of your choice (chocolate chips, thick caramel or chocolate topping, jam, etc.)

Egg wash: 1 egg, lightly beaten with 1 teaspoon water

    To top:

    • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
    • 1 Tbsp milk or cream
    • ½ tsp vanilla extract
    • Pinch salt
    • Sprinkles, for garnish (I used a mix of green tinted edible glitter and rainbow nonpareil sprinkles)

    1. Preheat your oven to 450 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.

    Photos by Jessie Moore

    2. Roll out the dough into a rectangle, approximately 8 inches by 12 inches. Cut the dough into 4×3-inch portions (basically, divide the dough into 8 equal-sized rectangles).

    Photos by Jessie Moore

    3. Place four of the rectangles on your baking sheet. Smear the center of each one with a teaspoon of cannabutter.

    Photos by Jessie Moore

    4. Directly on top of the cannabutter, spoon your desired filling, leaving blank space along the perimeter of each pastry. Avoid fillings that are too thin, or they may leak out of your pastries. I used fairly thick caramel sauce, which was probably about the thinnest consistency that would work for these pastries.

    Photos by Jessie Moore

    5. Brush the “naked” portions of the pastry with your egg wash.

    Photos by Jessie Moore

    6. Place the second batch of pastry rectangles on top of each topped pastry portion. Press down on the edges to ensure that the egg wash helps form a seal. Gently press the tines of a fork into the edges of each pastry to further ensure a seal. Poke the top of each one once or twice with the tines of a fork to let steam out. If desired, you can use the remaining egg wash to brush the tops of the pastries.

    8. Make the icing. In a large bowl, use a fork or whisk to whisk together the confectioners’ sugar, milk or cream, vanilla, and salt. Mix until no lumps remain and it’s a thick but still pourable icing. Spoon some on top of each pastry; directly after icing, apply sprinkles (they will stick best while it’s still wet and slightly sticky). Let the icing set, and enjoy!
