I keep hearing that cherry tomato red is going to be the It Color of 2024, so let’s lean into it! This dress from Carolina Herrera looks like a million bucks, so maybe it’s a steal at $1,990? The detailing at the waistline is so gorgeous that it’s making me question whether I actually need to pay my mortgage this month.

If you’re in the market for a once-in-a-lifetime, wear-forever piece, I think this could be the one.

The dress is $1,990 at Nordstrom and comes in sizes 2–18.

Here are a few more-affordable options (mostly in lucky sizes): Standards & Practices (plus sizes, $88), Connected Apparel (plus sizes, $79), Connected Apparel (straight sizes, $79).

A woman wearing an Ann Taylor tie neck black sweater and black denim pants

Our daily workwear reports suggest one piece of work-appropriate attire in a range of prices.

I have no shortage of black sweaters in my closet, but they’re such a mainstay of my winter wardrobe that I’m always on the lookout for a new twist. This tie-neck version from Ann Taylor has a little extra pizazz and would look great paired with some bright trousers for the office or with your favorite denim for the weekend.

The sweater is $37.49 (with code), marked down from $98, at Ann Taylor and comes in sizes XXS–XXL. It’s also available in winter white and lavender for $78.40.

Once a J.Crew item reaches a certain level of popularity, I know that J.Crew Factory will release its own, lower-priced version within a season or two. I wasn’t quite ready to pull the trigger on the full-priced Bouclé Lady Cardigan a few months ago, but this new version seems like it’s right up my alley.

I would wear the ivory color over a black sheath for a classic, business casual look.

The sweater is $64.50 at J.Crew Factory and comes in sizes XXS–3X.

One of the fun things about living in a cold climate is the fact that you’re scraping an inch of ice off your car the same week the retailers start putting out pastels for spring. How do we bridge that gap? Pastel tweeds! This pale blue blazer from Halogen will keep you warm enough until we can safely go outside with skin exposed.

I would pair it with navy trousers for now and save the white pants for when the snow melts.

The blazer is $139 at Nordstrom and comes in sizes XXS–XXL.

Talbots has a plus-size option for $199 in sizes up to 24 (also available in misses and petites).

Brooks Brothers’ Lunar New Year Collection has some really fun pieces, but this scale-motif cardigan is the one that jumped out at me. I’ll admit that I was a little nervous to see how BB was interpreting “Year of the Dragon,” but this burgundy/gold scale look is just gorgeous.

If you’re looking to make a twinset, a matching shell is available.

The sweater is $198 at Brooks Brothers and comes in sizes XS–XL.

Looking for something in plus sizes? This red cardigan from Estelle (16W–24W) has its own added detail of sparkly buttons and is $89 at Nordstrom.

This navy dress from Veronica Beard is one of the best sweater dresses I’ve seen this season. The shape is super flattering, and the brass buttons add a little extra fun.

If you’re a bustier person, I might size up on this one to prevent some of the awkward pulling that comes with the territory, but other than that, it looks like an A+ to me.

The dress is $498 at Nordstrom and comes in sizes XS–XL.

Every year, I use the week between Christmas and New Year’s for a big closet cleanout, and when I’m done, I always feel like I need a few more tops to round out my new “streamlined” wardrobe. (It’s a vicious cycle, I know.)

As I was browsing Nordstrom Rack, this top from T Tahari jumped out at me.

The silky-smooth fabric, ruffled neck, and wide variety of colors would make it a great option for anyone looking to spruce up their 2024 outfits.

These wide-leg pants from Ted Baker are a 100% yes for me. The coral color isn’t a typical one for office wear, but I would love to see these with a navy blazer or a black turtleneck. They also come in a gorgeous ivory color, if you’re less spill-prone than I am.

The pants are $260 at Nordstrom and come in Ted Baker sizes 0–6 (roughly equivalent to 00–16).

These pants from Mango are more affordable at $79.99 (at Nordstrom) but unfortunately are now only in stock in lucky sizes. These highly rated Old Navy pants are bestsellers and available in regular, tall, and petite sizes for $49.99, and for plus sizes, Eloquii has this pair on sale for $47.97.

A four-figure sweater isn’t in my budget at the moment, but if it were, this ivory cardigan from TSE Cashmere would be at the top of my list. In my Nancy Meyers-inspired fantasy life, I would pair this twisty cable knit with a satin midi skirt and flat sandals. In my real life, where I’m a lawyer and not an owner of a luxury cupcake bakery, I would wear it with some wide-leg trousers for the office or dark denim for the weekend.

The sweater is $1,350 at Neiman Marcus and comes in sizes XS-XL.

I’m absolutely loving the moody floral print on this blouse from White House Black Market. I would wear this with a charcoal suit on a formal day or tucked into some dark trousers for a more business casual look.

It’s described as a tunic length, which can be a bit tricky to style for the office, but the photos just make it look like a regular non-cropped blouse to me, so I’d be willing to give it a shot.

The blouse is $89 at White House Black Market and comes in sizes XXS–XL.

I’ve seen these pants from Frank & Eileen touted online by various influencers as “the perfect work pant,” and I have to admit, they look pretty darn good. They come in nine colors, all of which I would actually wear to the office; have a flattering mid-rise; and with 12% spandex, also have a good amount of stretch.

I would wear these with a longer blazer or an oxford shirt for a comfy business casual outfit.

The pants are $228 at Nordstrom (in black and green only) and at Frank & Eileen (all nine colors available). They come in sizes XS–XL, but note that they run small.

If you’re coming into work the week between Christmas and New Year’s, I hope you’re able to wear the comfiest clothes in your closet.

I distinctly remember a year where NYC got 20 inches of snow on December 26-27 and I had to be in the office prepping for a trial. If you’re similarly situated, you should be wearing your comfy work pants, and if you don’t have any, you should be looking at Athleta.

I love these dark green trousers, but the many varieties of the Brooklyn pant are also great options!

The featured pants are $129 and come in sizes 0-16. They also come in black in pyrite.

There’s a fine line between whimsical but still work-appropriate, and downright kooky. I’m pretty sure this owl-print top from Brooks Brothers is on the right side of that line, but let me know if you disagree.
