  • Netflix May Have Small Theatrical Window Plans for Warner Bros. Movies — Report

    Netflix‘s plans for movies after its projected acquisition of Warner Bros. still remains up in the air, but a new report suggests that the streamer has plans for some very small theatrical windows.

    What are Netflix’s reported plans for WB movies’ theatrical windows?

    In a new report from Deadline on the theatrical return for the Stranger Things finale, it’s noted that those in Hollywood remain wary of Netflix’s plans for WB movies once they acquire the company. Deadline notes that, although Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos has said nothing will change, sources note that Netflix have been “proponents of a 17-day” theatrical window for films.

    The move, should it come to fruition, is one that Deadline notes would “steamroll the theatrical business,” with the report mentioning that companies like AMC believe a 45-day window is a line that cannot be crossed. While no confirmation of any theatrical window exists, Deadline has reported multiple times through December that Sarandos is a big fan of the 17-day window structure.

    Although rumors suggest Netflix will be shrinking the theatrical windows for films if and when it acquires WB, Sarandos himself has said otherwise. Following backlash on the idea of a shorter window and concerns about Netflix’s proposed acquisition of WB, Sarandos has said that it’ll be business as usual when it comes to how WB works.

    “There’s been a lot of talk about theatrical distribution, so we want to set the record straight: we are 100% committed to releasing Warner Bros. films in theaters with industry-standard windows,” said Sarandos when Netflix announced the acquisition.

    One Battle After Another reviews are beginning to come in, and perhaps unsurprisingly, Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film is getting massive praise ahead of its release on September 26, 2025.

    What are the One Battle After Another reviews saying?

    On Rotten Tomatoes, One Battle After Another debuted its reviews today, and debuted with a whopping 97% score on the aggregator site. The Leonardo DiCaprio-led movie is being hailed as another masterpiece from Anderson, with some even calling it the best movie of his illustrious career.

    Variety’s Owen Gleiberman hailed Anderson as having “gone back to being a master.” The Hollywood Reporter’s Richard Lawson calls it a “a frightening and galvanizing vision,” while Indiewire’s David Ehrlich praised the film as a defining blockbuster of the 21st century.

    Elsewhere, Rolling Stone’s David Fear hailed the movie as a “humanistic masterpiece.” “Anderson’s humanistic masterpiece of a movie says: You fight it with love. That’s the end game. That’s how you retain your decency and sanity. That’s the only way you protect the future, and change it. That’s how you live to battle another day.” ComingSoon’s Jonathan Sim also praised the movie, noting that it “crackles with energy, wit, and vision.”

    Alongside DiCaprio, the movie also stars Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Chase Infiniti, Benicio Del Toro, Wood Harris, and Alana Haim. It is written and directed by Anderson, who also serves as a producer alongside Adam Somner and Sara Murphy. Will Weiske serves as an executive producer.

    The movie is reported to be “somewhat inspired” by a 1990 novel called Vineland by Thomas Pynchon.

    “Here, in an Orwellian 1984, Zoyd Wheeler and his daughter Prairie search for Prairie’s long-lost mother, a Sixties radical who ran off with a narc,” a description of the book reads. “Vineland is vintage Pynchon, full of quasi-allegorical characters, elaborate unresolved subplots, corny songs (‘Floozy with an Uzi’), movie spoofs (Pee-wee Herman in The Robert Musil Story), and illicit sex (including a macho variation on the infamous sportscar scene in V.).”

  • Mortal Kombat II Release Date Delayed to 2026

    Mortal Kombat II‘s release date has officially been pushed back, with Warner Bros. announcing that the film has been moved out of 2025 entirely.

    When is the new Mortal Kombat II release date?

    According to Warner Bros. Pictures, the film’s new release date has been set for May 15, 2026. The new date is a significant change, with the film now being delayed over seven months and out of 2025 entirely and through most of the first quarter of 2026.

    The news was announced alongside a new poster highlighting Kung Lao’s (Max Huang) hat, and a message that the “tournament demands a new time and place.” Check out the new poster for Mortal Kombat II below:

    Mortal Kombat II is directed by Simon McQuoid, from a screenplay written by Jeremy Slater. The film is a sequel to 2021’s Mortal Kombat, and stars Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, deline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, with Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion.

    “From New Line Cinema comes the latest high-stakes installment in the blockbuster video game franchise in all its brutal glory, Mortal Kombat II,” reads the film’s official logline. “This time, the fan favorite champions—now joined by Johnny Cage himself—are pitted against one another in the ultimate, no-holds barred, gory battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders.”

    She’s here.  Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first trailer for its highly anticipated The Color Purple movie musical, produced by Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey and starring American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino, Emmy winner Taraji P. Henson, and Danielle Brooks. At first glance, Celie, Shug Avery, and Sophia—the three central women portrayed by Barrino, Henson, and Brooks, respectively—are as vivid as ever. 

    Based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer-winning novel, The Color Purple follows the trials and tribulations of Celie, a Black woman in the early 20th century who suffers abuse at the hands of her father and husband. In 1985, The Color Purple was adapted into a feature film directed by Spielberg and starring Whoopi Goldberg as Celie and Winfrey—who earned an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress—as Sofia. In 2006, The Color Purple was adapted into a Broadway musical with a  book by Marsha Norman, music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Stephen Bray, and the late Allee Willis. It was revived on Broadway in 2016, starring the Tony-winning Cynthia Erivo as Celie as well as Danielle Brooks, who reprises her Tony-nominated turn as Sofia in the movie musical. 

    Now, Black Is King director Blitz Bazawule provides a fresh perspective on the now classic tale. “Today, our teacher told us about a place called Africa,” says Nettie, Celie’s sister played by The Little Mermaid‘s Halle Bailey, at the top of the trailer. “She say our mama come from queens over there. That means we royalty.” Soon, young Celie (Phylicia Pearl Mpasi) is separated from Nettie and married off against her will to Mister (Colman Domingo). 

    As she grows older, Celie—played in adulthood by Barrino, who also played the role on Broadway— struggles to reunite with her sister and find herself. Along the way, she meets Brooks’ Sofia, a strong, independent wife, as well as Shug Avery, the fabulous night club performer played by Henson. Throughout the trailer, Barrino belts out the musical’s eleven o’clock number “I’m Here.”

    “Dear Celie,” says Nettie at the end of the trailer. “We are more than just kings and queens. We are at the center of the universe.” Their story will be centered once again when The Color Purple debuts in theaters December 25th, 2023.
