  • [INTERVIEW] 2025 Walmart Rewards Mastercard Relaunch – Pointshogger

    [ad_1]

Today we are joined by Mark Swartz, Head of Banking, Walmart Canada. Today he’s sharing some news about the Walmart Rewards Mastercard relaunch. Thank you Mark for taking the time to answer our questions!

Below is a summary of the key enhancements that he will be referring to:

    • 3% back on all Walmart purchases in-store, online and on Marketplace
    • 1% back everywhere else
    • Up to six months free of Walmart’s Delivery Pass with the purchase of an annual subscription
    • $25 welcome bonus in Walmart Reward Dollars for new cardholders

    1. Please tell us about yourself and your role with Walmart Canada.

I joined Walmart Canada just over three years ago to lead our financial services team, which oversees the Walmart Rewards Mastercard along with other financial products and services. Alongside my team, I’ve had the privilege of transforming our Walmart Rewards Mastercard into a rewards card that provides our customers with even more value every time they shop with us. This has made our work even more meaningful.

    2. We last interviewed Walmart just over a year ago. What is new since then?

We’ve been hard at work behind the scenes to bring a newly improved card to the market that caters to the needs of not only our existing cardholders, but prospective ones too. Working closely with Fairstone Bank, we uncovered deep customer insights and ultimately determined that cardholders wanted the best rewards value when they shop with us and were looking for perks tied to grocery delivery. We got to work immediately and set out to deliver exactly that. Last month, we unveiled our enhanced Walmart Rewards Mastercard. Now, cardholders can earn 3% in Walmart Reward Dollars on Walmart purchases whether in store, on Walmart.ca, or through Walmart Marketplace. On top of that, we added a new perk: up to six months free of Walmart Delivery Pass with the purchase of our annual Delivery Pass subscription. Outside of shopping at Walmart, cardholders also earn 1% everywhere else they use their card. Plus, they can save, earning unlimited Walmart Reward Dollars that never expire.

    3. What else can we look forward to with Walmart Canada in the rewards world?

We’re on a journey to continue investing in the customer experience and incremental rewards opportunities with the vision of helping cardholders earn even more with every swipe, every tap and every purchase. Our cardholders and customers have shared a lot of great suggestions in terms of what they’d like to see from the Walmart Rewards Mastercard, so we’re committed to continuing to explore new offers and perks to take our Walmart Rewards Mastercard to the next level. Stay tuned!

    4. Any closing thoughts?

We’re really excited about this relaunch and proud of the exceptional value we’re providing on top of our every day low prices – especially at a time when Canadians are looking to make every dollar count. The feedback from our cardholders has been incredibly positive, which is great to see. Over the past 15 years, the Walmart Rewards Mastercard has helped Canadians redeem over $600 million in value at Walmart, so we look forward to seeing how the enhanced card will unlock even more value for customers to help them save money and liver better.

Today we feature David Page from Walmart Canada, who is going to share some new initiatives that came in recently and what else they are working on. Thank you David for taking the time out of your busy schedule to answer our questions. Looking forward to see what partnerships you may build!

    1) Can you share a bit about yourself and your role at Walmart Canada?

I’m David Page, Director, Financial Services at Walmart Canada, and I’m responsible for the Walmart Rewards Mastercard product.

    2) Walmart entered the credit card market in 2010. How has the journey been since then?

2010 marked the launch of our Walmart Rewards Mastercard. Since then, we’ve launched a Walmart Rewards World Mastercard to offer incremental rewards opportunities to customers. Over the past few years, we’ve been investing in the customer experience and incremental rewards opportunities with the vision of helping Walmart Rewards Mastercard holders earn rewards while they save money at Walmart, both in stores and online.

    3) Walmart has made enhancements to its credit card rewards program. What motivated these changes?

The enhancements we’ve made were another way to help Canadians save more money when they shop with Walmart given the challenges they’ve been facing over the past few years, including high inflation and the increasing cost of living. The offer we recently announced is tied to our Walmart Brands because our private brands line offers quality products at low, everyday prices. Walmart Brands products already help Canadians save up to 33%, and when using the Walmart Rewards Mastercard, our customers can amplify their savings with 5% back in Walmart Reward dollars. We also amplified the rewards earning opportunity by offering 2% back on transportation purchases including gas, EV charging, transit, taxi, ride sharing and more. Both enhancements provide customers the opportunity to earn rewards and redeem them on everyday low price purchases so they can save money and live better.

    4) What other initiatives or rewards can shoppers look forward to in the near future?

We’re always looking for partnerships and rewards opportunities to make the Walmart Rewards Mastercard the best no-fee credit card option for Canadians who are looking to save time and money by shopping at Walmart. We have some exciting new programs on the horizon that we believe will excite our customers. More to come down the road!

    5) Do you have any final thoughts or messages you’d like to share?

We’re excited about the rewards opportunities we offer and proud that Walmart Rewards are more than just points – it’s another way we’re helping our customers save even more money when they shop at Walmart.
