Meanwhile, Virat looked handsome in a black blazer, navy blue shirt and black formal pants. Virat and Anushka posed happily for the paparazzi, and they were also seen laughing over something the paparazzi said. Needless to say, they made for a beautiful couple, and fans couldn’t stop gushing over them.

    Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani got married yesterday at the Suryagarh Palace in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The couple had an intimate wedding in the presence of their close friends from the industry and family.

    The couple shared their dreamy wedding photos on social media, confirming their marriage with the caption, “Ab humari permanent booking ho gayi hai.”

    As per the Times of India, Sidharth and Kiara are set to fly down to Sidharth’s Delhi residence today where they are having their first reception. They will then fly down to Mumbai tomorrow and on February 12 will host their second wedding reception with many celebs and prominent figures. The reception is reportedly being held at St. Regis, Mumbai.

    Indian cricketers Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni are reportedly invited to Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani’s wedding reception in Mumbai. The guest list also includes Bollywood stars such as Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone.

    Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, arguably the world’s two most popular footballers, who may be playing their last FIFA World Cup this year, are among the highest-paid athletes too.

    Messi is ranked second with earnings of $122 million, followed by Ronaldo at third with yearly earnings of $115 million in Sportico’s 100 Highest-Paid Athletes in the World 2022 list. This includes their match salaries as well as endorsement earnings. Brazilian footballer Neymar ranked fourth with earnings of $103 million.

    Basketball icon LeBron James, meanwhile, emerged as the highest-paid athlete in the world, with annual earnings of $126.9 million. A large chunk of this came from endorsements and royalty-based deals with brand partners, including Nike, PepsiCo, Walmart, AT&T, and even Crypto.com.

    “The top 100 highest-paid athletes in the world include players from 10 sports and 24 countries. They earned $4.46 billion in total income, including $3.24 billion in salary and prize money, as well as $1.23 billion off the field or court from endorsements, licensing, memorabilia and appearances over the last 12 months,” Sportico stated.

    Interestingly, Team India’s Virat Kohli was the only cricketer to feature in the top 100. He ranked 61st, with earnings of $33.9 million, of which a lion’s share ($31 million) came from endorsements. Based on endorsement earnings alone, Kohli ranks 14th in the world.

    The highest-paid female athlete in 2022 was tennis sensation Naomi Osaka, who was ranked 20th with annual earnings of $53.2 million. Serena Williams, who retired this year, was the second-highest paid female athlete, ranking 52nd with earnings of $35.3 million.

    Tennis legend Roger Federer, who also hung up his boots this year, was the 8th highest-paid athlete, with earnings of $85.7 million. Federer, meanwhile, bagged the second-highest endorsement kitty of the year, trailing only LeBron James.

    The NBA, in fact, dominated Sportico’s 2022 list with over 36 players featuring in the top 100.

    Ind vs Eng semi-final, T20 World Cup: With the first semi-final over, all eyes are on the second crucial clash between India and England on Thursday at Adelaide Oval, Australia. Emotions are running high in both countries as cricket fans across the world are gearing up for yet another super clash ahead of the final, which will be played on Sunday. 

    In the second semifinal, the Men in Blue will take on England, which tops ICC’s ODI ranking but falls behind India in the T20 ranking. With 269 ratings, Team India is ahead of England in the Men’s T20I Team rankings.

    Ahead of the high-octane game, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said that his team understands the dynamics of T20 Cricket. He said the team has to be good on that particular day, otherwise, it is not good enough. 

    “You just have to be good on that particular day, otherwise, it’s not good enough. Certainly, we will have some confidence going into tomorrow’s game, but we just need to be better than them (England) to come out on top. We have got to be at our best to win the game,” the captain said. 

    Pakistan has already entered the final after defeating New Zealand by 7 wickets in the first semi-final. 

    Cricket fans in India are already anticipating the final between India and Pakistan. For that to happen, the Men in Blue will have to win the match against England on Thursday. 

    India have already defeated Pakistan once in this tournament and that was quite a thriller. It was the first game and the Men in Blue were in a very difficult position but India’s ace batsman Virat Kohli rescued the team with his stunning knock of 83. 

    India topped Group B by winning 4 of 5 matches while England came second in Group A by clinching 3 of 5. India defeated Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Netherlands, and Zimbabwe. They lost only one match they had with South Africa.

    Virat Kohli, the right-handed batter, has been in superb form in the ongoing T20 World Cup, scoring three half-centuries. He hit a match-winning 82-run knock against Pakistan, leading India to an unlikely victory. But he had also faced a rough patch in his life earlier this year as he struggled to score runs. During this year’s Asia Cup, Kohli revealed that MS Dhoni was the only person who texted him when he stepped down as Test captain in January.

    During his absence from international cricket, Kohli admitted he didn’t use his bat and that he “was trying to fake” his intensity. 

    Currently, Kohli has revealed what Dhoni texted him during the tough time and how the message “hit home” for him in an interview with RCB Podcast.

    Kohli said, “The only person who has genuinely reached out to me has been MS Dhoni. And for me that is such a blessing to know that I could have such a strong bond and such a strong relationship with someone who is such a senior to me where things are, it is a friendship which is based on a lot of mutual respect.”

    “It is one of the things he mentioned in the same message reaching out to me, that when you are expected to be strong and looked at as a strong individual, people forget to ask how are you doing? So, it hit home to me, it was like this is it,” he further added on RCB podcast.

    India’s success in the T20 World Cup semifinal, where they will play England on Nov 10, was largely due to Kohli’s strong performances. The game will take place at Adelaide Oval, while Pakistan and New Zealand will square off in Sydney for the other semifinal match.

    Kohli took nearly three years for his 71st international century, which he achieved against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup.

    Cricketer Virat Kohli has revealed that a hotel contractor filmed inside his Perth hotel room while the India superstar was elsewhere.

    Kohli took to social media to condemn the disturbing video, in which a stranger walked through the room filming every step of his way. A second person was also present in the room at the time the video was taken, but their faces are not visible.

    Crown Perth issued an apology statement on Monday afternoon, stating that the contractors involved had been stood down and removed from the Crown account.

    Crown Resorts confirmed that it was aware of the incident and that the video was shot by a contractor working at its Burswood hotel and casino complex.

    The video was titled ‘King Kohli’s Hotel Room,’ and it depicts the star cricketer’s neat and organised belongings.

    “We unreservedly apologise to the guest involved and will continue to take the necessary steps to ensure this remains an isolated incident,” a spokeswoman for the Crown Perth said.

    “We have zero tolerance for this behaviour, and it falls well below the standards we set for our team members and contractors. Crown has taken immediate steps to rectify the issue. The individuals involved have been stood down and removed from the Crown account.”

    Crown said it was investigating with the third-party contractor and would “take any further steps necessary to ensure an incident of this nature does not occur again,” according to the spokeswoman.

    Kohli just scored 12 runs off of 11 balls in India’s T20 World Cup defeat at the hands of South Africa. At the Perth Stadium on Sunday, South Africa defeated India by five wickets in game 30 of the T20 World Cup.

    It will go down as a ‘historic match’, not just in T20s or World Cups, but India-Pakistan cricket folklore spanning across decades. As Virat Kohli knocked Haris Rauf for two sublime sixes in the 19th over, taking India closer to a thrilling win, Disney+ Hotstar’s live viewership soared to 1.8 crore — a jump from the 1.4 crore the OTT platform had recorded in the India-Pakistan game in Asia Cup earlier this year. By the time Ashwin hit the winning runs off Nawaz, Hotstar concurrents may have dipped slightly to 1.6 crore. (These are analyst estimates, Hotstar is yet to disclose official numbers)

    Hotstar is no stranger to cricketing highs, especially during marquee matches such as this in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Given the complete absence of India-Pakistan bilateral cricket over the last few years, ICC tournaments almost always add a fixture between the arch rivals that becomes a high-viewership vehicle. “Tournaments of national interest [like a World Cup], an India-Pakistan game is viewed with a lot of passion. Growth in terms of viewership on digital has been phenomenally high at 15-20 per cent YoY. There is a big opportunity for penetration and driving large eyeballs,” Karan Taurani, SVP, Elara Capital, tells Business Today. 

    However, this may not be repetitive, he says, given not all games will go down to the last ball and/or feature a Virat Kohli masterclass. However, “the concurrent views might be higher in the final match of the World Cup depending on which team qualifies and at what scale it is,” he says. “India has to obviously qualify for that along with a very competitive team – Pakistan, Australia, England, or New Zealand, which will develop the viewership.” 

    Advertising money, however, is not just made on concurrent viewership since most brands pre-sign contracts with the OTT platform. Given the influx of T20 matches this year, Hotstar is estimated to have seen a “steady viewership growth”  of 15-20 per cent YoY, according to Elara Capital. “This is good news for OTT and digital advertising. And If you look at cricket advertising on digital, there is a potential for 30-40 per cent YoY growth given the sharp eyeballs we are seeing,” Taurani explains. 

    Cricket in Multiplexes

    While Hotstar is making merry in streaming, India’s top multiplex operators PVR and INOX are also experimenting with match screenings. PVR, for instance, showed the India-Pakistan game across 125 screens, while INOX played it in 90+ cinemas, generating ~70 per cent hall occupancy. 

    While this may not be a sustainable business model for footfall recovery, the short-term benefits cannot be denied. “This is very much in line with what a hit film would do, but this is a one-day wonder, not a one-week wonder. Multiplexes will get minor gains here and there, but it is not a sustainable business model,” Taurani explains. 

    Short-term gains also factor in “slightly higher ticket prices” for cricket matches compared to that of movies, as well as higher F&B spends. The revenue-sharing model is also similar. “Multiplexes share 50 per cent with the BCCI compared to 50 per cent they would share with distributors for films. But the overall share of properties where cricket matches are shown is just about 20 per cent,” Taurani says, adding, “Multiplexes are doing this as test runs because they know very few matches will attract big audiences [like the India-Pak game did].”

    Both PVR and INOX attested to the high turnout for the Sunday game. INOX Leisure CEO Alok Tandon told PTI, “The response that we got for this match across all the 90-plus cinemas has been phenomenal, identical to a blockbuster movie. The electric environment in the auditoriums was much like what someone witnessed in the stadiums.”

    PVR shares were up 1.23 per cent up to Rs 1,736.90, while INOX was trading 0.15 per cent higher at Rs 508.40 on the BSE on Tuesday.

    T20 World Cup: Virat Kohli’s masterclass innings against Pakistan in the first T20 clash on Sunday stopped online shopping for some time, according to a graph shared by an investment officer. The graph, which tracked online transactions during the day, shows online transactions stopped during India’s batting and it nosedived from 5 to 6 pm – when Kohli was at his best.

    The graph was shared on Twitter by Mihir Vora, Chief Investment Officer at Max Life. It shows a high Diwali shopping rush in the morning from 9 am to 1:30 pm – the time when the game began.

    After the match started, online transactions remained muted during Pakistan’s batting. However, it started declining further as India’s batting started. At one point after 5 pm, the number plunged. And as the game was over, shopping resumed.

    “Virat Kohli stopped India shopping yesterday!!UPI transactions from 9 a.m. yesterday till evening – as the match became interesting, online shopping stopped – and sharp rebound after the match,” Vora wrote on Twitter.

     
    Played at Australia’s Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the first T20 game between the two arch-rivals was a nail-biting thriller. Also, this was one of the best innings by Kohli.

    India were chasing 159 but faltered very early as it lost four wickets in the first six overs when the score was still 36. But Kohli held his nerves. He dragged the game for 10 overs and then decided to take charge. His unbeaten 82 off 53 and Hardik Pandya’s 40 off 37 deliveries pulled off a stellar show at MCG.

    After winning the match, Kohli said this was one of his “finest innings”. He said the magnitude of this match was different and he found himself lucky to play such important games. “I think people will now celebrate Diwali happily. I wish everyone a happy and prosperous Diwali,” Kohli said.

    Former South African cricket player AB de Villiers said: “Virat, that was incredibly special my friend! The best of the best.”

    Former ace opener Sachin Tendulkar said it was undoubtedly the best innings of Kohli’s life. “It was a treat to watch you play, the six off the back foot in the 19th over against Rauf over long-on was spectacular,” he said.

    It looked nearly impossible for India to win when they were reduced to 31/4 in less than seven overs while chasing 160. After that, Kohli and Hardik Pandya put together a 113-run stand as they began to rebuild the game. Kohli scored 82 off 53 balls while remaining undefeated, hitting six fours and four sixes, to lead his team to a four-wicket victory after Pandya was bowled for 40.

    While Kohli himself reacted to the stunning victory by saying “It just happens,” political leaders were thrilled with praise for the former India captain’s brilliant knock and the Indian team’s tenacity, which brought them laurels.

    Union Home Minister Amit Shah showered praises for Kohli. He tweeted, “A perfect way to start the T20 World Cup. Deepawali begins. What a cracking innings by @imVKohli. Congratulations to the entire team.”

    Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the Indian team’s performance and lauded Kohli for his best innings.

    “A phenomenal effort by Team India against Pakistan in Melbourne today. Virat Kohli played one of the finest innings of his life! This incredible victory has delighted all Indian cricket fans around the world. Congratulations to Team India on this spectacular victory,” he said.

    Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi wished India’s victory as “one of the greatest victories under pressure” and wished the team “best of luck” in the tournament’s remaining matches.

    Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said it is a huge Diwali dhamaka and firecrackers by Team India. “And a huge #Diwali Dhamaka and firecrackers by #TeamIndia as it defeats #Pakistan! What a game @imVkohli! Congratulations India.”

    India’s former top-order batsman Sachin Tendulkar in a tweet said this was undoubtedly the best inning of Kohli’s life. “It was a treat to watch you play, the six off the back foot in the 19th over against Rauf over long on was spectacular! Keep it going,” he said.
