    [ad_1]

Thalapathy Vijay has given multiple hits in his career as an actor. Among them is the 2016 actioner, Theri, which became one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of the year. As the actor’s last film faces delays, the makers of Theri have announced its re-release in cinemas.

When will Theri re-release in cinemas?

On January 10, 2026, producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu took to X (formerly Twitter) and announced that Thalapathy Vijay’s Theri will return to cinemas. With a fresh poster of the film, the announcement was made. The producer revealed that Atlee’s power-packed entertainer will hit cinemas on January 15, 2026, timed for its 10th anniversary.

    Check it out:

The re-release announcement of Vijay’s mass entertainer comes at a time when his swan song, Jana Nayagan, is facing delays due to certification. For the unknown, Theri succeeded in entertaining the audience and becoming a blockbuster due to its mass appeal and the impressive storyline that depicts a father-daughter bond. While Vijay holds the fort, he is joined by actors like Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson, making it irresistible for the audience.

Helmed by Atlee, the movie revolves around DCP Vijaya Kumar, who is forced to return to his dangerous past when his daughter’s life is in danger. To protect his loving child, Kumar takes over the reins again to tackle the enemies. The Tamil-language film became so popular that it was recreated in Hindi as Baby John, starring Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, Zara Zyanna, and Jackie Shroff.

    About Vijay’s Jana Nayagan

After entertaining the audience for decades, Thalapathy Vijay has decided to bid adieu to his acting career. Hence, Jana Nayagan holds a special place in the hearts of his fans. Earlier, Vijay’s upcoming 69th film was scheduled for a release in October 2025. But it was delayed to January 9, 2026. • Jana Nayagan Audio Launch: An emotional Thalapathy Vijay reflects on his last film, admits it was “A Little Painful”

    [ad_1]

The audio launch of Vijay’s final film Jana Nayagan took place at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil in Malaysia on December 27. With Jana Nayagan marking Vijay’s final film before his transition into politics, the audio launch became a landmark celebration of his illustrious three-decade-long journey in cinema. Titled “Thalapathy Thiruvizha,” the grand event paid tribute to Vijay’s legacy, drawing thousands of fans and industry colleagues who gathered to honor the superstar’s contribution to Indian cinema. After addressing the massive crowd gathered for him, an emotional Thalapathy Vijay said at the event, “I don’t know whether to say it or not but my last film is a little painful right? What do you want me to do?”

Recalling his early days as an assistant director, filmmaker Atlee highlighted Vijay’s humility. He said, “When I was an AD on my last day, he called me on told me, you are working really good and hard if you have a story let me know. At that time, he had completed 50 films. No big star who completed those number of films would do that. He is a nice man.”

Atlee concluded with a heartfelt analogy that struck a chord with the audience. He said, “We will see 3 kind of people in life. Someone like would be leaves, they would come and go off when their purpose gets over. There will be branches, but they will go off in a storm. But, people with you are like roots, Vijay Na. They will never leave you.”

The evening featured a nostalgic retrospective of Vijay’s most popular songs, seamlessly blended with live performances of newly released tracks from Jana Nayagan. Music composer Anirudh Ravichander led a powerful live orchestra, elevating the atmosphere. Singers including Vijay Yesudas, Anuradha Sriram, Haricharan, Krish, S. P. Charan, Tippu, Shweta Mohan, Yogi B, Andrea Jeremiah, and Sanjana Divaker Kalmanje performed at the event. Several prominent filmmakers and actors such as Lokesh Kanagaraj, Nelson Dilipkumar, Atlee, Nasser, and Srinath were also present alongside the film’s cast.

The audio launch marked a major milestone ahead of the film’s theatrical release. Directed by H Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, Jana Nayagan boasts a high-profile ensemble including Vijay, Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, and Priyamani in pivotal roles.

The Jana Nayagan audio launch will be televised on ZEE Tamil and streamed on ZEE5 Tamil ahead of the film’s theatrical release on January 9, 2026.

  • Varisu box office collections; Vijay starrer has an Extraordinary Monday, tops 125 crores in India

Varisu box office collections; Vijay starrer has an Extraordinary Monday, tops 125 crores in India

    [ad_1]

Varisu had an extraordinary Monday at the box office, collecting Rs. 23 crores approx, which takes its total box office collection in India to Rs. 125 crores in six days. The Monday numbers of the film are similar to that of Saturday, though that has come to be due to the holiday period, but Saturday was already a huge number, to repeat the same on Monday is an extraordinary feat.

The film collected Rs. 16 crores approx in Tamil Nadu yesterday, which puts its six days total in the state at Rs. 81 crores approx. Yesterday was the day after Pongal, which is typically the best day for the box office during the Pongal holiday period in Tamil Nadu, though coming off Sunday, it would have been acceptable if the film had a minor drop even but the film saw a huge turnover in the smaller centres across the state, with many recording their best day since release. Today is the last day of the official holiday period in Tamil Nadu, though there will be some holiday leftover boost in some areas for a couple of days.

The box office collections of Varisu at the Indian box office are as follows:

    Wednesday – Rs. 29.75 crores

    Thursday – Rs. 12 crores

    Friday – Rs. 12 crores

    Saturday – Rs. 23 crores

    Sunday – Rs. 25.50 crores

    Monday – Rs. 23 crores

    Total – Rs. 125.25 crores

The film also had a strong day in the Telugu states, with Andhra Pradesh recording the best day since release, while Telangana which had a lesser holiday impact on Monday, also held strongly. The film has grossed Rs. 15 crores in Telugu states so far and should comfortably become Vijay’s biggest grosser there.

Karnataka and Kerala also held well, depending on how they perform in the second week, the final number could be a pretty good sum. After the first Thursday and Friday, these two looked like massive underperformers, but the last three days had a good turnaround.

The territorial breakdown for the box office collections of Varisu in India is as follows:

Tamil Nadu – Rs. 81 crores

    Karnataka – Rs. 10.75 crores

    Kerala – Rs. 10.50 crores

    AP/TS – Rs. 15 crores

Rest of India – Rs. 8 crores

    Total – Rs. 125.25 crores

Varisu and Thunivu Overseas & Worldwide box office; Vijay starrer scores over Ajith by almost 50 crores Globally

    [ad_1]

Varisu blasted off with nearly $7.50 million (Rs. 61 crores) overseas in its five-day extended weekend. Combined with Rs. 102 crores in India, the worldwide box office gross stands at Rs. 163 crores through Sunday. The overseas performance is more or less similar to other Vijay films, with some markets doing better, while some a bit under.

In the first two days, the numbers did feel a bit low as the first day was affected by last-minute release date changes in most markets while Thursday being a weekday was slow. On Friday the film was back to collecting big numbers and then Saturday also posted good growth as well. The film did big numbers in Vijay’s typical strongholds of Europe whether it was the UK (highest-grossing film for the actor here in just 5 days) or France or the smaller markets like Norway, Belgium, Poland, etc. North America, Malaysia and Singapore also did well. The big underperformance came from UAE-GCC, where it had one of the lowest starts for a Vijay starrer in recent times.

The territorial breakdown for the overseas box office collections of Varisu is as follows:

    North America – $1,425,000

    Middle East – $1,350,000

    Australia / New Zealand – $390,000

    Singapore – $650,000

    Malaysia – $1,100,000

    Sri Lanka – $200,000

    United Kingdom – $815,000

    France – $450,000

    Rest of Europe – $850,000

    Rest of World – $250,000

    Total – $7,500,000 (Rs. 60.75 crores)

Thunivu recorded the career-best start for Ajith overseas, with many markets emerging as his highest-grosser ever in just five days. The film grossed $4.80 million (Rs. 39 crores) approx in the first five days, which gives it a worldwide total of Rs. 117 crores. The film crossed full run numbers of Ajith’s previous release Valimai over the weekend and will soon become his highest-grosser ever internationally.

The territorial breakdown for the overseas box office collections of Thunivu is as follows:

    North America – $1,000,000

    Middle East – $1,075,000

    Australia / New Zealand – $190,000

    Singapore – $525,000

    Malaysia – $900,000

    Sri Lanka – $110,000

    United Kingdom – $300,000

    France – $220,000

    Rest of Europe – $350,000

    Rest of World – $100,000

    Total – $4,775,000 (Rs. 39 crores)

  • Thalapathy Vijay’s Varisu OR Ajith Kumar’s Thunivu: Which trailer do you think looks more promising?

Thalapathy Vijay’s Varisu OR Ajith Kumar’s Thunivu: Which trailer do you think looks more promising?

    [ad_1]

The year 2023 holds a lot of exciting ventures for the fans of South cinema. The lineup includes two of the most adored stars Thalapathy Vijay, and Ajith Kumar locking horns at the box office with their forthcoming dramas, Varisu and Thunivu respectively. As both films will be hitting the cinema halls on the 12th of January this year during Pongal, the makers have released the trailers of the movies, piquing fans’ interest. For the unversed, these two stars have been sharing a release date after a long gap of around 9 years.

    Varisu Trailer

The makers of Thalapathy Vijay, and Rashmika Mandanna’s family entertainer Varisu unveiled the trailer of the movie today on 4th January. The preview introduces us to a picture-perfect joint family with three brothers. However, when asked about it, they only care to admit to two. The reason for this is said to be the youngest sibling’s (Thalapathy Vijay) rebellious attitude. The story gains momentum when their family business faces a threat in the form of another ruthless businessman, played by Prakash Raj. Given the unprecedented situation, the protagonist steps up to the occasion and decides to settle scores. The engaging clip makes us think about the following questions, will he be able to save his family business? will he get back his family’s acceptance? If the trailer is any hint, Varisu seems like a total masala entertainer. It includes all the necessary ingredients like action, drama, comedy, romance, and music, among other things.

Vamshi Paidipally has directed the Tamil drama with R Sarath Kumar, Jayasudha, Khushboo, Srikanth, Shaam, Yogi Babu, and Sangeetha Krish playing ancillary roles, along with the rest. Backed by Dil Raju under the production banners Sri Venkateswara Creations, and PVP Cinema, Praveen K. L. is looking after the editing. While well-known composer S Thaman has provided the tunes for the drama, Karthik Palani is on board the team as the cinematographer.

    Thunivu Trailer

Now, coming to the trailer of Thunivu, the makers released the exciting preview just a couple of days ago. Helmed by Valimai director H Vinoth, the project is a heist thriller that journals a cat-and-mouse chase between a group of bank robbers, and the police. While Ajith Kumar is shown as the head of the robbers’ gang, Manju Warrier is his partner in crime. Additionally, Samuthirakani plays DGP Dayalan in Thunivu. The film appears to have several layers with a lot of suspense. From the looks of it, the venture appears to be a high dose of adrenal rush.

The film’s cast further includes Veera, John Kokken, Ajay, and Cibi Chandran in supporting roles, along with others. The highly awaited drama has been financed by Valimai maker Boney Kapoor under the Bayview Projects LLP banner, along with Zee Studios. The music for Thunivu has been scored by Ghibran, while Nirav Shah and Vijay Velukutty are a part of the team as cinematographer, and editor respectively.

After having a look at both the trailers, which of the two previews do you think will get the audience in the theatres?
