Bleachers are back with another new album. The band’s fifth studio LP, Everyone for Ten Minutes, is out May 22 via Dirty Hit. Their lead single, “You and Forever,” is out now along with an Alex Lockett-directed music video starring Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff. In the clip, the Bleachers singer paces around the city while taking punches and crawling in the rain, while Qualley dances across her apartment and plays with a tiny dog. Watch it below.
Although Everyone for Ten Minutes has its moments of darkness, a press release largely describes the album as being “an optimistic record that feels lovestruck and hopeful.” It arrives over a decade into Bleachers’ career and two years after they dropped their most recent self-titled LP.
Since releasing Bleachers, Antonoff has been as busy as ever — especially as a producer. He co-wrote and co-produced the majority of Sabrina Carpenter’s albums Short n’ Sweet and Man’s Best Friend, and hopped behind the board to work on songs by Kendrick Lamar (“6:16 in LA”), Gracie Abrams (“Us”), and Paramore (a remix of “Sanity”). Antonoff also co-wrote and produced 11 of the 12 songs that made up Lamar’s Grammy-winning album GNX.

Westminster Mall, a once-popular shopping center that has been desecrated by graffiti and vandalism since it closed last year, is on track for demolition soon.
It will be replaced with housing, a hotel and some shops and stores, part of a nationwide trend that is seeing outdated, failed malls in high-traffic locations swapped for mixed-use development that typically includes apartments. The process is often lengthy, leaving empty malls in danger of abuse
In recent weeks, videos have circulated on social media showing rampant paint tagging and destruction inside the structure that was a cultural touchstone in the Orange County city of Westminster for decades after it opened in 1974.
In its heyday, the mall was a gathering spot when there were few other places to hang out. It was where kids found the latest fashions and where “mall rats” roamed in packs after school.
The owner, Irvine-based Shopoff Realty Investments, has formally finished acquiring the property visible from the 405 Freeway and announced last week that demolition of the massive indoor mall would begin by April. Target will continue to operate during this time, the owners said.
The company paid nearly $93 million for the bulk of the old mall, according to real estate data provider CoStar. Shopoff Realty acquired the mall’s former Sears and Macy’s parcels in 2022.
Shopoff Realty now controls the mall and surrounding retail properties on an 89.3-acre site that it plans to turn into a mixed-use complex called Bolsa Pacific at Westminster.
Plans for Bolsa Pacific call for 2,250 residences involving a mix of for-sale housing and market-rate and affordable rental housing, the developer said.
Since its closing, vandals have broke into the mall, covered it in graffiti and destroyed the interior.

The project is also to include a 120-room hotel and more than 220,000 square feet of shops and restaurants. Bolsa Pacific is to include more than 15 acres of open space, including private spaces for residents, open-air promenades and a network of walking trails.
Shopoff Realty anticipates that city officials will approve its plans in the months ahead and that construction will begin by the end of the year after demolition is complete.
“The Westminster Mall meant a lot of things for a lot of people for many years,” Shopoff Realty President Willliam A. Shopoff said. “it was a gathering place and it was a place where people had their first jobs, or first dates or first kiss — or all of the above. We envision a new kind of gathering place that can have the same kind of meaning for people for the next 50 or 75 years.”
As many as 8,000 people will live there, he said, and hundreds will be employed at the hotel.
“It’s hard to accumulate this much land in Orange County,” Shopoff said. “This is a really special opportunity.”
The Westminster Mall opened in 1974 on the former site of the world’s largest goldfish farm, according to city documents. It underwent major renovations in the 1980s and in 2008.
As malls have closed because of shifting consumer shopping habits and a desire for more lucrative development opportunities, the expansive empty buildings have taken on a new draw as a kind of postapocalyptic wasteland, much to the chagrin of local officials. Leveling such large structures and building something new in their place often take years, leaving the malls vacant and ripe for abuse.
Videos on social media and YouTube show people tagging empty storefronts, skateboarding or riding bicycles indoors and urban explorers touring the abandoned spaces for posterity or to look for signs of paranormal activity.
After the Hawthorne Plaza closed in 1999, it became the eerie setting for music videos for artists including Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and Travis Scott. Graffiti, trash, trespassing and safety issues at the sprawling mall vexed local officials for so many years that they secured an injunction forcing the property owners to redevelop it or demolish it by August.
Valley Plaza in North Hollywood, once touted as the largest shopping center on the West Coast, had been abandoned for nearly a decade, becoming a hot spot for fires and criminal activity, before it was demolished last year.

Bad Bunny took the field in a literal sense, beginning his set singing the Un Verano Sin Ti single “Tití Me Preguntó” inside a sugar cane farm while people in pava hats harvested the crop. Clutching a football to his chest while wearing an all-white outfit—including a football-style top, emblazoned with the number 64 and his mother’s last name, Ocasio, on the back—Bad Bunny walked through the field, passing assorted people going about their daily lives: men playing dominos, women painting their nails, two men boxing, a jewelry counter, and stands selling coconut water, tacos, and piraguas.
Singing YHLQMDLG’s “Yo Perreo Sola,” Bad Bunny emerged in front of a traditional pink house—a staple of his shows, it’s affectionately labeled La Casita—while dozens of dancers performed a synchronized routine on its front yard. Cardi B, Karol G, Pedro Pascal, Jessica Alba, Young Miko, and more hung out on the building’s porch while Bad Bunny scaled its roof, occasionally rapping to a top-down camera hanging above him before sneaking in a bit of “Voy a Llevarte Pa’ PR.” After crashing through the house’s roof and landing in a family’s living room, Bad Bunny exited to a brief sample of Daddy Yankee’s classic “Gasolina” before launching into his own Grammy-winning single “EoO” while standing atop a white pickup truck.

Costa Rican conductor Giancarlo Guerrero, sporting a brown suit adorned with a sequined flor de maga, the national flower of Puerto Rico, led over a dozen string players in a romantic rendition of “Monaco” while a couple got married on an outdoor courtyard. Dancers stepped back to reveal Lady Gaga in a blue dress as she launched into a salsa version of her Bruno Mars duet “Die With a Smile” with Bad Bunny’s backing band Los Pleneros de la Cresta. While wedding guests danced in circles and the happy couple sliced into an enormous tiered cake, Bad Bunny sang “Baile Inolvidable,” took the pop star in his arms, and the two salsa danced together, grinning ear to ear.
Technically, this wasn’t the first time Bad Bunny performed at a Super Bowl halftime show. Back in 2020, he sang “I Like It” and “Chantaje” with Shakira, who co-headlined that year alongside Jennifer Lopez in Miami.
The halftime show marks Bad Bunny’s only stateside performance for the forseeable future. His Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour, which kicked off last November and runs through May, includes no stops in the U.S. or Canada. In an interview with i-D, he explained, “there was the issue of—like, fucking ICE could be outside [my concert].” After Bad Bunny was announced as this year’s halftime show performer, Corey Lewandowski, Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, said that “ICE will have enforcement at the Super Bowl” during a podcast appearance.

On an August 2022 episode of Watch What Happens Live! with Andy Cohen, the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum played a game of “Will Kathy Know Them?” in which she guessed a celebrity’s name based on a photo.
When the 66-year-old was shown a photo of Lizzo, she said, “I feel like I do [know her]. Precious?” which caused some uncomfortable laughter from host Cohen and the studio audience.
That’s when Hilton tried to cover her tracks, adding, “That’s, like, what I call her. Her nickname’s Precious to me….”
Now, years later, Gabourey Sidibe–the actress who famously played Precious in the eponymous film–has reacted to the viral moment on the One54 podcast, published Wednesday, Feb. 4. According to the star, the moment was particularly strange because she’d had interactions with Hilton in real life, making the mix up all the more disrespectful.
“That was weird because I have been to that lady’s house and had a meeting with her,” Sidibe said. “I was like, ‘I know you— Kathy.’ “
“I’ve never met Lizzo, but Lizzo and I do different things,” she continued. “I’ve been confused for many a Black fat, like many, many, many women. And it’s always weird and tinged with racism. I did think that was weird, Kathy Hilton. Because I have been to that woman’s house and had a meeting with her because she wanted to dress me. I was like, that’s so strange.”
Not only that, Hilton didn’t even refer to Gabourey by her real name on the show, which added another layer of confusion.
“You oughta know my real name, also, ’cause she said ‘Precious?’ I just, I don’t know,” Sidibe said.
Hilton, who also mistook several other celebrities during the same Watch What Happens Live! segment, spoke out about the incident after receiving backlash.
“The screen was so far away and my vision is terrible. If you recall, I couldn’t even make out who Justin Timberlake or Melissa Etheridge was,” she wrote in a comment on Instagram at the time.
A source went on to tell E! News that the Real Housewives star felt “terrible” about her comments and “would never intentionally hurt anyone’s feelings.”
The idea for the Opalite music video crash landed into my imagination when I was doing promo for The Life of a Showgirl. I was a guest on one of my favorite shows, @TheGrahamNortonShowOfficial. For those of you who aren’t familiar, it’s a UK late night show where Graham Norton (the insanely charismatic and lovable host) invites a random group of actors, entertainers, musicians, etc to be on his show and we all sit there and chat like it’s a dinner party. They even serve wine. Anyway. I remember thinking I got ridiculously lucky with the group I was paired with. Cillian Murphy, Domhnall Gleeson, Greta Lee, @JodieSmith, and @LewisCapaldi. All people whose work I’ve admired from afar. When we were all talking during the broadcast, Domhnall made a light hearted joke about wanting to be in one of my music videos. He’s Irish! He was joking! Except that in that moment during the interview, I was instantly struck with an *idea*. And so a week later he received an email script I’d written for the Opalite video, where he was playing the starring role. I had this thought that it would be wild if all of our fellow guests on the Graham Norton show that night, including Graham himself, could be a part of it too. Like a school group project but for adults and it isn’t mandatory. To my delight, everyone from the show made the effort to time travel back to the 90’s with us and help with this video.
With the Trump administration reportedly in talks to create an anti-fraud task force for California, state Atty. Gen. Rob Bonta on Thursday vehemently denounced what he described as the administration’s “reckless” and “false” rhetoric about fraud plaguing the state.
At a news conference at the Ronald Reagan State Building in downtown Los Angeles, Bonta said the Trump administration’s claims that state programs are overrun by fraud and that its government was itself perpetrating or facilitating this fraud was “outrageous and ridiculous and without basis.”
Bonta said most states struggle with some fraud from outside actors, saying that “anywhere there’s money flowing there’s a risk” and that the state’s Department of Justice has thrown immense resources into cracking down on illicit activities and recovering funds for taxpayers.
As a politicized national fight over waste, fraud and abuse led by Republicans have targeted California and its Democratic leadership, Bonta and other state officials have moved swiftly to combat the claims.
In California, Bonta said, authorities have recovered nearly $2.7 billion through criminal and civil prosecutions since 2016, including some $740 million through Medi-Cal fraud related prosecutions, about $2 billion under the state’s False Claims Act, and an additional $108 million from a task force focused on rooting out tax fraud in the underground economy.
State authorities have frequently partnered with the federal government in the past on such investigations and welcome a good-faith partnership in the future, Bonta said.
CBS News reported on the creation of a California-focused fraud task force earlier this week, citing multiple unnamed sources familiar with the plans. The outlet, whose new editor in chief, Bari Weiss, has been aligned with Trump and spearheaded a major overhaul of the news organization, reported that the president plans to soon sign an executive order naming Vice President JD Vance as head of a group that would also include the head of the Federal Trade Commission as vice chairman.
Trump’s rhetoric fueled doubts about California programs and Gov. Gavin Newsom’s leadership at the start of the year, when he declared that “the fraud investigation of California [had] begun.”
On the president’s social media platform, in formal letters and in recent news conferences, officials in the Trump administration have alleged fraud in child care, hospice funding and unemployment benefits.
Last week, the topic took center stage again when Mehmet Oz, the administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, posted a video accusing Armenian crime groups of carrying out widespread hospice fraud in Los Angeles.
That viral video received more than 4.5 million views on X.
Oz’s video received fierce backlash from California politicians and the local Armenian community, who collectively alleged that it contained baseless and racially charged attacks on Armenians.
The video shows Oz being driven around a section of Van Nuys where he says that about $3.5-billion worth of medicare fraud has been perpetrated by hospice and home-care businesses, claiming that “it’s run, quite a bit of it, by the Russian Armenian mafia.”
He also points to Armenian language signs, incorrectly referring to them as written in a cerulean script, and saying “you notice that the lettering and language behind me is of that dialect and it also highlights the fact that this is an organized crime mafia deal.”
Newsom filed a civil rights complaint against Oz on Jan. 29, asking the Department of Health and Human Services to investigate the “racially charged and false public statements” made in the video.
On Monday, California Sen. Adam Schiff followed suit, demanding an independent review of Oz’s alleged targeting of Armenian American communities.
“To suggest markers of Armenian culture, language, and identity are indicative of criminality underscores a discriminatory motive that could taint any investigation into fraud and incite the further demonization of the community,” Schiff said in a statement.
Glendale City Councilmember Ardy Kassakhian said in an interview that Oz’s statements feed into the Trump administration’s playbook of using allegations of fraud to sow racial divisions.
“This time the focus just happens to be the Armenians,” he said. “In places like Minnesota, it’s the Somali community.”
California has been investigating healthcare fraud since a 2020 Los Angeles Times investigation uncovered widespread Medicare fraud in the state’s booming but loosely regulated hospice industry.
From 2010 to 2020, the county’s hospices multiplied sixfold, accounting for more than half of the state’s roughly 1,200 Medicare-certified providers, according to a Times analysis of federal healthcare data.
Scores of providers sprang up along a corridor stretching west from the San Gabriel Valley through the San Fernando Valley, which now has the highest concentration of hospices in the nation.
The state Department of Justice has charged more than 100 people with hospice-related fraud since 2021 and shuttered around 280 hospices in the last two years, according to data from the California Department of Public Health.
But those shuttered hospices barely represent a dent in the massive hospice home healthcare industry. There are 468 hospice facilities in the Van Nuys area alone, according to the state database of medical facilities.
There are 197 licensed medical practices, including 89 licensed hospices, in a single two-story building located at 14545 Friar St. in Van Nuys — suggesting a concentration of fraudulent businesses.
When asked why the number of licensed medical practices in Van Nuys and at that address are so high, a spokesperson for the California Department of Public Health said that the department is committed to fighting fraud and unable to comment on pending investigation.
Recent turmoil in Minnesota has demonstrated the potential ripple effects of allegations levied by the Trump administration.
Ahead of sending in thousands of immigration enforcement agents into the Midwest state, Trump had repeatedly cited a fraud case involving funds for a child nutrition program involving COVID-19 pandemic relief funds.
He used the case, which involved a nonprofit where several Somali Americans worked, to vilify the immigrant community, even though the organization was run by a white woman. After the state became a lightning rod, Gov. Tim Walz dropped his reelection plans.
At Thursday’s news conference, Bonta described major cases in other states, such as $11.4 million healthcare fraud and wire fraud conspiracy involving a nursing assistant in Florida and a $88.3 million Medicaid fraud case in in Ohio involving over billing by a pharmacy benefit manager — to show abuse of state programs is not unique to California — or to blue states.
“We know Vance hails from Ohio, so maybe he should take a look in his own backyard before leading an unnecessary political stunt focused on California,” Bonta said. “We thought we should set the record straight.”

Spanning 10 songs, Peaches! is billed as the Black Keys at their “most natural” since their 2002 debut, The Big Come Up. The follow-up to 2025’s No Rain, No Flowers is the duo’s 14th album together overall. The band started working on the record after singer-guitarist Dan Auerbach’s father was diagnosed with esophageal cancer and stayed in his son’s Nashville home while rapidly declining.
“We weren’t making a record. We were just jamming, like this is for us,” Auerbach said in a press release. “Really primal, in a moment when all the nerves were raw, just kinda screaming. We were going through a lot, trying to lift our spirits. I think my dad getting sick made me not give a fuck and just wanna scream for a bit.”

Bruce Hornsby has unveiled the starry tracklist of new album Indigo Park. Ezra Koenig, Bonnie Raitt, Blake Mills, Pino Palladino, Chris Dave, and the late Grateful Dead legends Bob Weir and Robert Hunter are among the contributors joining the singer-songwriter and his longtime band the Noisemakers. The album is due April 3, via his own Zappo Productions and Thirty Tigers. The following week, Hornsby will take the Noisemakers on the road. A Denver sheriff’s deputy accused of punching a man in a wheelchair while on duty in 2019 — in a lawsuit the city has now settled — was also arrested on accusations he punched another man in a wheelchair in December.
The Denver City Council approved the $325,000 settlement in the case over the 2019 incident involving Deputy Jason Gentempo, now 44, during a meeting Monday.
Gentempo, who has been a sheriff’s deputy since 2005, is now on investigatory leave from the sheriff’s department following his arrest in the newer matter in December. Both of his cases also involved allegations that other law enforcement officers attempted to cover up or change the factual records of the events.
Gentempo was cleared of any wrongdoing in the incident, according to internal investigation documents.
In December, the Denver Police Department arrested Gentempo and his wife, Sgt. Carla Gentempo, after they were accused of assaulting another man in a wheelchair while they were off duty. The couple learned that a 17-year-old they knew was at a Denver apartment where they believed there was a “sexual torture chamber,” according to affidavits filed in that case.
Jason Gentempo told investigators that he believed the man in the wheelchair met the teen in a chatroom and took the teen to his home, where he showed them “sexual bondage items” and put some of the items on the teen with their consent, an affidavit says.
When the Gentempos drove to pick up the teen, the man in a wheelchair, who is paraplegic, met them in front of his apartment building. The Gentempos then beat the man in an attack that was captured on surveillance footage, the documents say. They were arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault.
The man in the wheelchair, whose identity was redacted in court records, told The Denver Post in December that he didn’t do anything sexual with the teenager and refuted the deputies’ characterization of a “sexual torture chamber.”
A Denver police officer is accused of trying to cover up that assault. Officer Henry Soni, 26, was the responding officer who reviewed surveillance video of the attack and gave the man in the wheelchair a case number, according to an affidavit. He then failed to file a report or enter the surveillance video as evidence in the case.
In official records, Soni wrote that the man in the wheelchair “does not want to file a report at this time.” The officer’s body-worn camera footage of his response to the man’s home was automatically logged into the police evidence storage system as being connected to an assault call, but Soni manually changed the footage the next day to be classified as “All Other/Non-event,” according to an affidavit.
Soni was arrested on suspicion of attempting to influence a public servant, forgery, evidence tampering and misconduct. He was also accused of on-duty sexual assault in an unrelated case. In December, he was suspended without pay, pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.
Internal investigators found Gentempo improperly stored his firearm in 2021 and that he disobeyed rules related to his body-worn camera in 2024, disciplinary records show.
Dua Saleh has announced a new album, Of Earth & Wires, out May 15 on Ghostly International, The Sudanese-American artist also shared two new songs from the record, both featuring Bon Iver. Watch the music videos for “Flood” and “Glow” below.
Of Earth & Wires was executive-produced by Billy Lemos, whose credits include SZA and Tinashe; the tracklist also features Gaidaa and aja monet. Saleh released their debut album, I Should Call Them, in 2024. That record followed a trilogy of EPs: 2019’s Nūr, 2020’s ROSETTA, and 2021’s Crossover.
Saleh previously worked with Bon Iver in 2020, on the song “Bloodrush” with Andrew Broder, Denzel Curry, and Haleek Maul; the duo also served as co-writers on Travis Scott’s 2023 song “My Eyes.” Their third official collaboration came together during a recording session in Minneapolis. “Flood” is inspired by Saleh’s experiences with climate-related flooding while living in Cardiff, Wales.
“We were all writing together, following instinct,” Saleh said in a press statement. “[Bon Iver]’s enthusiasm, emotional honesty, and melodic intuition made everything feel effortless. What stayed with me most was how he continued to show up afterward, excited by the demos, retracking vocals, and helping shape arrangements as the songs evolved.”

A notice taped outside one door says unauthorized entry is prohibited: “This includes all federal law enforcement personnel and activities unless authorized by lawful written direction from appropriate school officials or a valid court order.”

Staff coordinate throughout the day with a neighborhood watch group to determine whether ICE agents are nearby. When they are, classroom doors are locked and hallways emptied until staff announce “all clear.”
Similar tactics have been utilized by schools in other cities hit by immigration raids across the country. The Los Angeles Unified School District established a donation fund for affected families and created security perimeters around schools last summer.
But it appears nowhere have students felt the repercussions of local raids more than in Minneapolis.
Many schools have seen attendance plummet by double-digit percentages. At least three other, smaller charter schools in Minneapolis have completely shut down in-person learning.
At this high school, which administrators asked The Times not to identify for fear of retaliation by the Trump administration, 84% of students are Latino and 12% are Black. Staff and students are being identified by first or middle names.

Three students have been detained — and later released — in recent weeks. Two others were followed into the school parking lot and questioned about their immigration status. Several have parents who were deported or who self-deported. Latino staff said they have also been stopped and questioned about their legal status.
“Our families feel hunted,” said Noelle, the school district’s executive director.
Students returned from winter break on Jan. 6, the same day 2,000 additional immigration agents were dispatched to Minneapolis to carry out what Immigration and Customs Enforcement Acting Director Todd Lyons called the agency’s “largest immigration operation ever.” The next day, an ICE officer fatally shot Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother of three.
“I describe that day as if you’re on an airplane and it’s really bad turbulence, and you have to keep your cool because, if you don’t, you lose the entire building,” said Emmanuel, an assistant principal. “It felt like we went through war.”
Attendance dropped by the hundreds as parents grew too afraid to let their children leave home. School leaders decided to offer online learning and scrambled to find enough laptops and mobile hotspots for the many students who didn’t have devices or internet. Some teachers sent packets of schoolwork to students by mail.

Noelle said in-person attendance, which had dropped below 400 students, increased by around 100 in the third week of January. Then federal agents shot and killed 37-year-old intensive care nurse Alex Pretti, and attendance plummeted again.
Rochelle Van Dijk, vice president of Great MN Schools, a nonprofit supporting schools that serve a majority of students of color, said many schools have redirected tens of thousands of dollars away from other critical needs toward online learning, food distribution and safety planning. For students still attending in person, recess has frequently been canceled, and field trips and after-school activities paused.
Even if students return to school by mid-February, Van Dijk said, they will have missed 20% of their instructional days for the year.
“A senior who can’t meet with their college counselor right now just missed support needed for major January college application deadlines. Or a second-grader with a speech delay who is supposed to be in an active in-person intervention may lose a critical window of brain plasticity,” she said. “It is not dissimilar to what our nation’s children faced during COVID, but entirely avoidable.”
At the high school, administrators said they tried to create “a security bubble,” operating under protocols more typical of active shooter emergencies.

If agents were to enter the building without a judicial warrant, the school would go into a full lockdown, turning off lights, staying silent and moving out of sight. That hasn’t happened, though ICE last year rescinded a policy that had barred arrests at so-called sensitive locations, including schools.
Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary for the Department of Homeland Security, said that blaming ICE for low school attendance is “creating a climate of fear and smearing law enforcement.”
“ICE does not target schools,” McLaughlin said. “If a dangerous or violent illegal criminal alien felon were to flee into a school, or a child sex offender is working as an employee, there may be a situation where an arrest is made to protect the safety of the student. But this has not happened.”
Alondra, a 16-year-old junior who was born in the U.S., was arrested after school Jan. 21 near a clinic where she had gone with a friend, also 16, to pick up medication for her grandmother.
She said that as she was about to turn into the parking lot, another car sped in front of her, forcing her to stop. Alondra saw four men in ski masks with guns get out. Scared, she put her car in reverse. Before she could move, she said, another vehicle pulled up and struck her car from behind.
Alondra shared videos with The Times that she recorded from the scene. She said agents cracked her passenger window in an attempt to get in.
“We’re with you!” a bystander can be heard telling her in the video as others blow emergency whistles.
She said she rolled her window down and an agent asked to see her ID. She gave him her license and U.S. passport.
“Is it necessary to have to talk to you or can I talk to an actual cop?” she asks in the video. “Can I talk to an actual cop from here?”
“We are law enforcement,” the agent replies. “What are they gonna do?”
In another video, an agent questions Alondra’s friend about the whereabouts of his parents. Another agent is heard saying Alondra had put her car in reverse.
“We’re underage,” she tells him. “We’re scared.”
A sign directs students to line up for their school bus route. Bus pickups are staggered, with one group of students escorted outside at a time. This way, the children can be taken back inside the school or onto the bus more easily if ICE arrives.
A Minneapolis Public Radio reporter at the scene said agents appeared to have rear-ended Alondra’s car. But Alondra said an agent claimed she had caused the accident.
“It’s just a simple accident, you know what I mean?” he says in the video. “We’re not gonna get on you for trying to hit us or something.”
“Can you let us go, please?” her friend, visibly shaken, asks the agent at his window.
Alondra and her friend were handcuffed and placed in a U.S. Customs and Border Protection vehicle as observers filmed the incident. At least two observers were arrested as agents deployed tear gas and pepper spray, according to an MPR report.
The agents took the students to the federal Whipple Building. Alondra said the agents separated the friends, looked through and photographed her belongings and had her change into blue canvas shoes before chaining her feet together and placing her in a holding cell alone.
“I asked at least five times if I could let my guardian know what was happening, because I was underage, but they never let me,” she said.
Finally, around 7 p.m., agents released Alondra — with no paperwork about the incident — and she called her aunt to pick her up. Her friend was released later.
Meanwhile, school administrators who saw the MPR video called Alondra’s family and her friend’s.
Alondra said officers didn’t know what had happened to her car and told her they would call her when she could pick it up. But no one has called, and school administrators who helped her make calls to Minneapolis impound lots haven’t been able to locate it either.
Though Alondra could attend classes online, she felt she had to return to campus.
“I feel like if I would have stayed home, it would have gone worse for me,” she said, her lip quivering. “I use school as a distraction.”
The backstage of the auditorium, dubbed the bodega, has been turned into a well-stocked pantry for families who are too afraid to leave their homes.

Teachers and volunteers sort donations by category, including hygiene goods, breakfast cereals, bread and tortillas, fruit and vegetables, diapers and other baby items. Bags are labeled with each student’s name and address and filled with the items their family has requested. After school, teachers deliver the items to the students’ homes.
Noelle said some students, particularly those who are homeless, are now at risk of failing because they’re in “survival mode.” Their learning is stagnating, she said.
“A lot of these kids are — I mean, they want to be — college-bound,” Noelle said. “How do you compete [for admission] with the best applicants if you’re online right now and doing one touch-point a day with one teacher because that’s all the technology that you have?”
On Thursday afternoon, 20 of 44 students had shown up for an AP world history class where the whiteboard prompt asked, “Why might some people resort to violent resistance rather than peaceful protest?”
Upstairs, in an 11th-grade U.S. history class, attendance was even worse — four students, with 17 others following online. The topic was what the teacher called the nation’s “first immigration ban,” the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882.

Morgan, the teacher, asked the students to name a similarity between the Chinese exclusion era and current day.
“Immigrants getting thrown out,” one student offered.
“Once they leave, they can’t come back,” said another.
“The fact that this is our first ban on immigration also sets a precedent that this stuff can happen over and over and over again,” Morgan said.
Sophie, who teachers English language learners, led the effort to organize the online school option. She is from Chile and says she has struggled to put her own fear aside to be present for the students who rely on her. Driving to school scares her, too.
“It’s lawless,” she said. “It doesn’t matter that I have my passport in my purse. The minute I open my mouth, they’re going to know that I’m not from here.”
Sophie said she once had to call a student’s mother to say her husband had been taken by immigration agents after another school staffer found his car abandoned on a nearby street.
“Having to have that conversation wasn’t on my bingo card for that day, or any day,” she said. “Having to say that we have proof that your husband was taken and hearing that woman crying and couldn’t talk, and I’m like, what do I say now?”
Close to the 4:15 p.m. dismissal, administrators again donned their neon vests and logged on to the neighborhood Signal call for possible immigration activity.

Now pickups are staggered, with students escorted outside one bus at a time. Teachers grab numbered signs and tell students to line up according to their route. If ICE agents pull up, administrators said, they could rush a smaller group of students onto the bus or back inside.
In yet another example of how the immigration raids had crippled attendance, some buses were nearly empty. On one bus, just two students hopped on.
Last night’s Grammys Awards ceremony featured a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, who passed away last year at the age of 76. Post Malone, Duff McKagan, Slash, Chad Smith, and Andrew Watt teamed up for a faithful rendition of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs,” the band’s rousing anti-war protest song from 1970, while balls of fire exploded behind them. This year’s In Memoriam segment honored several musicians who died over the past year with special live performances. In another portion of the tribute medley, Lauryn Hill, the former frontwoman of Fugees, honored the work of the late artists Roberta Flack and D’Angelo with a star-studded performance.
Charlotte saw snow — again — this weekend, but this time it looks a little different.
With an anticipated nearly 6 to 11 inches of snow this weekend from the “Bomb Cyclone”, Charlotte saw a winter wonderland unlike any in some time.
The powdery, dry snow is a bit of a change from last week’s ice and sleet and folks have been taking to it with sledding, snowballs and maybe a snowman or two.
On the flip side of the weather, nearly 200 wrecks have been reported so far by N.C. Highway Patrol. The total number of flights canceled or delayed at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport rose to nearly 1,000 midway through Saturday, with the weather not expected to let up until the evening.
With those conditions in mind, Charlotteans can expect a few more inches of snow before the day is over. And if you’re a kid, or young at heart, that sounds just about right.

Newsom announced he is investigating reports that TikTok is suppressing anti-Trump content days after the platform averted a nationwide ban by finalizing a U.S. ownership deal backed by Trump.
“Following TikTok’s sale to a Trump-aligned business group, our office has received reports — and independently confirmed instances — of suppressed content critical of President Trump,” the governor’s press office said in a Monday evening statement on X.
The announcement comes after a flurry of online complaints that videos criticizing Trump, such as those condemning ICE actions in Minnesota or speaking out against the killing of Alex Pretti by federal agents, are either getting zero views or far lower view counts than normal.
The new U.S.-based company TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC has not publicly responded to the allegations of censorship. However, the company said in a Monday statement that it was grappling with a power outage at a U.S. data center that was causing a “cascading systems failure.”
Among the issues the platform advised creators to look out for were zero views or likes on videos, slower load times and timed-out requests. Thousands of user issues were being reported throughout the day Monday, according to outage tracker Downdetector.
Newsom’s press office said the governor was calling on the California Department of Justice to review whether the application violates state law by censoring content that is unfavorable to Trump. The Department of Justice did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
“It’s time to investigate,” Newsom wrote on X while reposting a screenshot showing a TikTok user being prevented from sending a message saying “epstein.” The screenshot says, “This message may be in violation of our Community Guidelines, and has not been sent to protect our community.”
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A spokesperson told the Washington Post that the White House “is not involved in, nor has it made requests related to, TikTok’s content moderation.”
Internet personality Preston Stewart, who makes informational videos about war and national security topics, said that two videos he posted Monday simply disappeared while another video received zero views despite him having 1.3 million followers.
“I’ve seen folks suggest this is targeted but from what I’m seeing it’s across platform affecting everyone,” Stewart wrote on X.
Nonetheless, frustration continued to spread online among creators, celebrities and elected officials who did feel like the view suppression was deliberate.
State Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) stated that TikTok is “now state controlled media” in a Monday morning statement on X. He shared a screenshot showing that a video he posted about his legislative proposal to allow people to sue ICE agents received zero views compared to thousands of views on his regular content.
“TikTok is dead. Killed by the regime & the corrupt kleptocrats suckling at its teat,” he wrote in a Monday evening X post, reposting another screenshot, this time showing extremely low view counts on CNN’s recently shared videos.
TikTok finalized a deal Thursday to spin off its U.S. operations into a new majority-American joint venture with investors including Oracle, Silver Lake, and MGX. The $14-billion deal puts Larry Ellison, a co-founder of Oracle and a longtime Trump supporter and donor, in a powerful position over the app’s operations in America.

Geese were the musical guests on Saturday Night Live last night (January 24), making their debut on the show alongside host and One Battle After Another star Teyana Taylor. For the occasion, the band played two songs from their latest album Getting Killed, “Au Pays du Cocaine” and “Trinidad.” Watch both performances below.
Although the episode marked Geese’s first SNL appearance, frontman Cameron Winter has technically been on the show before. On SNL‘s final episode of 2025, hosted by Ariana Grande, cast member James Austin Johnson portrayed Winter in a “Random Duet Christmas Spectacular” sketch. Littleton Public Schools agreed Thursday to pay $3.85 million to the families of three children who are autistic and were abused by a school bus monitor.
The school board voted unanimously to approve the settlement Thursday, slightly more than two weeks after former bus monitor Kiarra Jones pleaded guilty to abusing the three boys while they were riding the bus to and from The Joshua School, a private school in Englewood.
Littleton Public Schools was contracted to bus the students, who are nonverbal and autistic, to and from school each day. Jones abused the boys on their bus rides for about six months, between September 2023 and March 2024, before authorities discovered surveillance video that showed the woman elbowing, stomping and punching the students.
The boys’ parents frequently asked teachers and officials at The Joshua School about their sons’ unexplained bruises and injuries while the abuse was going on, but school officials claimed the children were injuring themselves.
The families have filed a lawsuit against The Joshua School, alleging that school officials mishandled their concerns and never reported suspicions of abuse to outside authorities, enabling the monitor’s abuse.
In a statement, attorneys from Denver law firm Rathod Mohamedbhai said the three families appreciate the school district’s willingness to resolve the case early to allow for the children to start healing.
“No parent should have to wonder if their children will come home from school hurt by the very people entrusted to care for them,” attorneys for the families said Thursday night.
Littleton Public Schools has changed policies around reviewing and retaining bus surveillance, according to the statement.
“The families continue to advocate for the rights of their children and for the dignity and rights of the Autism community as a whole,” attorneys for the three families said. “They continue to seek accountability and justice from everyone who played a role in not ending the abuse against their children sooner through their ongoing lawsuit against The Joshua School.”
Joshua School Executive Director Cindy Lystad previously issued a statement that put blame for the abuse on Littleton Public Schools and said the school stands by teachers and staff members.
School board members did not comment on the settlement before or after approving it Thursday night, but district officials posted a letter online from Superintendent Todd Lambert addressing the settlement shortly after the vote.
The settlement will be “fully funded through insurance” and will have “no adverse impact on the educational services LPS students receive,” Lambert wrote.
“We will continue to look for ways to strengthen our practices, to communicate transparently with you, and to do everything in our power to ensure the safety, dignity and well-being of every student in our care,” he wrote.

The new song follows a consistent stream of Fred again.. collaborations that he’s been adding to his “infinite” album, USB, which first launched in 2022. The second official installment of the project, USB002, arrived in December of last year.
Last year, Young Thug put out UY SCUTI, his first album since he was released from jail in October 2024. On “Scared,” his AutoTuned vocals have been removed from its previous trap backdrop, and looped on top of big-room synths and skippy garage production.
